Naruto: I Can Synthesize Summoning Beasts

Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Hoist the Sails, Full Speed Ahead!

Shangguan Mo sent his Self-Destructing Flies to patrol a several-kilometer radius. To keep himself from dozing off again, he began to mold chakra. His own chakra reserves were average, nothing like the vast oceans of the Senju or Uzumaki clans. By his own estimation, he didn't even have one "kaka" of chakra. Although a ninja's strength wasn't measured by their chakra amount, a powerful ninja would never have a small reserve. So, whether it was for his own growth or to meet the 200-chakra requirement for synthesizing D-rank summons, he had to work hard on his chakra training.

The night passed without incident. As darkness receded and dawn broke, he had been training all night. Though he looked a bit weary, his face was happy.

[Host: Shangguan Mo]

Race: Human

Summoning Beasts: ...

Life Points: 221

Chakra: 155

One night of training had increased his chakra by 1 point. He didn't know what 1 point of chakra could do, but he knew that, barring any accidents, he could reach 200 points within half a year and be able to synthesize D-rank summons without consuming his life force. And a D-rank summon was definitely stronger than an average Chunin.

"Speaking of which, I was supposed to do another synthesis, but I got roped into this by Rino-sensei and forgot about it. My chakra hasn't reached 200 yet, and after synthesizing a D-rank summon, there will be a period of weakness..." He stopped his training and frowned.

As their mission continued, the Jashinist ninja they would face would only get stronger. He wanted to synthesize another D-rank summon to boost his strength, but it would cost him 45 life points. That 45 points would cut his own strength in half and would take at least a week to recover. He was in the middle of a critical mission and couldn't afford to do something so counterproductive.

"And, I don't have any ideas for a second D-rank summon yet..." He currently only had his wind-attribute chakra, which counted as a green-quality material. After mastering the Phoenix Sage Fire Technique, with a bit more practice, he could probably manage a nature transformation while releasing his fire chakra, which should also be judged as green-quality by the system. But he had no other green-quality materials, which conflicted with his desire for diversified synthesis. His plan was to find the highest compatibility among various creatures and materials of the same quality, aiming for a success rate over 100%. That way, he could get a D+ rank summon with the strength of an elite Chunin.

"Well, I'll wait. I don't have any D-rank creatures right now anyway. If I find a suitable one, I might just go for it..." he decided.

"Shangguan Mo, what are you spacing out for?" A steady, middle-aged voice suddenly pulled him back to his senses. He turned to see Watanabe Mousse beside him. "Nothing," he smiled faintly.

Watanabe looked at him with interest. "Compared to your endless variety of summons, I'm more curious about you yourself. At only fourteen, how can your mind be so mature? Even with a few hardships, it shouldn't have made you so mature in every aspect. You have a very clear idea of how to deal with people, situations, and even your own future path."

Shangguan Mo's heart tightened for a moment, then relaxed. He's just curious. It's not like he can cut my head open. Besides, Yugakure doesn't have any strange mind-reading jutsu. Seeing him remain silent, Watanabe thought he had misunderstood his intentions and quickly added, "It was that guy Rino who came to me about your early graduation. Don't get me wrong, I don't have any other intentions. I'm just very curious."

"It's fine, Captain Watanabe," Shangguan Mo smiled faintly, his expression becoming a little distant as he murmured, "Maybe... I have the soul of my past life in me..."

"Hehehe... you and your nonsense!" Watanabe laughed helplessly and shook his head. He turned to leave, his voice trailing behind him, "Call back your goshawk. We should pack up and set off."

After a meal of dry rations and a bowl of freshly-boiled mushroom soup, the group once again took to the skies on the Windhawk, continuing their sweep along the designated route.

The Windhawk flew at an altitude of two hundred meters. The eight of them, plus his summons, sat steadily on its back. Two hours had passed since they had set off. Shangguan Mo's eyes were closed, his breathing slow. He was finally starting to doze off.

Just then, Watanabe, who had been watching the ground intently, suddenly leaned over the side. The next moment, he turned and shouted, "Shangguan Mo!"

"Hmm?" Awakened from his slumber, he looked blearily in the direction of the voice.

"We've got a situation! Have your summon descend!" he ordered grimly.

Hearing this, Shangguan Mo was instantly wide awake. He patted the Windhawk beneath him. "Little Wind, down!"

"Chirp!" it cried out, and its wings, which had been parallel to the ground, suddenly went vertical. Its speed instantly dropped. An emergency brake. It was already very skilled at this maneuver.

Shangguan Mo drew his kunai and looked at the rapidly approaching ground. As they descended, he saw a team of five black-robed ninja running at high speed below. Just from their running speed, they were definitely not ordinary people without chakra. He turned to look at the captain. "Captain, can you sense anything?"

Watanabe's expression was grave as he said slowly, "They're Jashinist ninja. Their chakra levels are not low. Two of them are on par with me."

"Two Jonin?" Inoshita Rino and Shangguan Mo exchanged a look, their expressions changing slightly.

"I can only handle one. I can't deal with the other," Watanabe said, then looked at Shangguan Mo. "With your summons, do you think you can handle the other Jonin?"

He was actually giving the choice of whether to fight to him!

"Captain!"

"Captain Watanabe! He's still a child! How can you let him decide something like this?"

"Yeah!"

The three teachers who weren't very familiar with Shangguan Mo all spoke up in protest. Watanabe waved his hand to silence them, his gaze fixed on Shangguan Mo.

He, however, was rapidly calculating in his head. "Two Jashinist Jonin, the other three are Chunin. On our side, one Jonin, five Chunin, one Genin, and Li is a medical-nin, so she doesn't count as combat power. That means the other Jashinist Jonin needs to be handled by me, two Chunin teachers, and my summons..."
