Chapter 138: MSOC: Chapter 138
In the Hokage's office, the three advisors were gathered. However, compared to Homura Mitokado and Koharu Utatane, Danzō Shimura, half his body wrapped in bandages, looked rather grim. His remaining left eye was fixed intently on the Third Hokage, creating a heavy atmosphere. Jiraiya and Tsunade stood silently, occasionally glancing at their sensei.
"Sarutobi, what's going on? You still haven't found Uchiha Kai?" Danzō sneered. "You guaranteed he wouldn't defect, and it's been three days."
"I told you, the Uchiha are an evil clan. Sensei said so. Have you forgotten?"
Danzō turned to Jiraiya. "If you'd cooperated with me, he wouldn't have escaped."
"Now, those Uchiha lunatics are using the First Hokage's decree to demand an early Hokage election, aiming to seize the position. It's ludicrous."
Everyone exchanged glances. The Uchiha's sudden actions were completely unexpected. While the Hokage wouldn't interfere in Uchiha clan leadership changes, replacing Fugaku with Ishi was shocking.
"Danzō, calm down. Your wounds are still healing. This agitation will affect your recovery," the Third Hokage said.
"Hmph!" Danzō snorted. "Sarutobi, of course you want me calm, so you can keep your Hokage position."
"But don't forget, the First Hokage knew most people distrusted the Uchiha, so he established two rules to appease Uchiha Madara."
"First, if the current Uchiha Clan Head and elders, along with all clan members, jointly nominate someone, that person is eligible to run for Hokage."
"Second, to become Hokage, besides securing fifty percent support, the candidate must possess strength that commands everyone's respect."
"Those three old fools are waiting for this opportunity."
"The Uchiha have many geniuses, but the White Fang, the Sannin, Minato—all surpassed them. Without absolute certainty, those old fools remained aloof. But now they've shown their fangs. Who among us can surpass that boy?"
His words hung heavy in the air, changing everyone's expressions. Danzō's words were harsh but not unreasonable. The three Uchiha elders were using the First Hokage's decree to force their hand. They couldn't refuse.
"No, we have Minato. Once he masters Sage Mode, combined with Flying Raijin, his strength will skyrocket," Koharu Utatane said.
"You mentioned Kai's exceptional talent. But Jiraiya possesses Sage Mode and knows its difficulty. Kai only spent a short time at Mount Myōboku. I doubt he learned Sage Mode, or that Mount Myōboku refused to teach him."
"Koharu, you mean let Minato Namikaze and Uchiha Kai compete for Hokage?" Danzō's eyes narrowed. He'd always coveted the Hokage position. If not for Hiruzen Sarutobi, he would have already seized it. He'd waited for the Uchiha elders to demand an early election, expecting the opportunity to fall to him. He hadn't expected Koharu, his closest ally, to favor Minato.
"Danzō, among the younger generation, only Minato can contend with Kai. Do you have a better candidate?" Koharu asked.
"Hmph. I'm alone. You all think a twenty-something-year-old can be Hokage. What can I say?" Danzō snorted, rising to his feet.
"Handle this yourselves. I'm leaving. Don't cause any more trouble."
He left. The Third Hokage's expression turned grave.
"Sarutobi, do you think Danzō will give up?" Homura Mitokado asked anxiously.
All eyes turned to Hiruzen. He sighed. "I wish Danzō would cause less trouble."
"But that's impossible. Jiraiya, continue contacting Minato. We need to reach him quickly."
Hiruzen paused, turning to Tsunade. "Tsunade, stay in the village. If possible, find Kai. I don't believe he'd just leave."
His orders sent ripples through Konoha.
Danzō returned to the former Root base. Though Root had been disbanded, he still had loyalists, prepared for this situation.
"Danzō, by the look on your face, the Hokage position won't be yours this time," Orochimaru emerged from the shadows. "Since your dream failed, shall we proceed with our original plan?"
"Hmph," Danzō snorted, clutching his cane. "Orochimaru, this is my affair. Don't interfere."
"Since they don't value me, I'll use my own methods to maintain Konoha's peace."
Konoha was now caught in a three-way struggle.
Meanwhile, in the Land of Hot Water's Daimyo's mansion…
A man in a black robe, wielding a crimson scythe, licked the blood from its blade.
"No, don't kill me! I shouldn't have put a bounty on you! Make the Yashamaru Cult the state religion, and I'll do anything!"
A large man lay half-dead on the ground, a deep wound in his abdomen. Those familiar with the black market would recognize him as the target of the bounty—the Daimyo of the Land of Hot Water. His mansion had been breached. This news would send shockwaves through the shinobi world.
