Chapter 26: CH-25 : Star wheel and Momoshiki's Kama !
Suzan stood tall in the center of the ancient ceremonial platform, his robes shimmering faintly in the ethereal glow of the overhead starlight. The air was silent, thick with tension and anticipation. Rows of Ōtsutsuki clan members sat in their respective places, a hierarchy visible even in their seating—elders on one side, main family members on the other, with the Tensai seated higher than all but one.
Suzan's eyes slowly scanned the seats, resting momentarily on each of the dignified elders cloaked in black and white, and then shifting toward the calm, almost godlike presence of the Tensai. After a breath, he took a respectful step forward and bowed his head slightly. "Elders… I shall begin now."
One of the black-robed elders gave a faint nod, his voice deep and toneless. "You may proceed, Suzan."
With permission granted, Suzan turned to face the assembled main family members. His voice now carried power—clear and commanding as it echoed across the chamber. "Before we begin the Star Wheel Ceremony, I will first explain the process and its rules."
A hush fell over the hall as every ear leaned in. Even the youngest among the gathered Ōtsutsuki listened intently.
"Each of you," Suzan began, "will walk down the straight divine pathway leading to the Star Wheel. This sacred device is powered by the blazing star positioned directly behind it—a celestial body with energy older than any of our bloodlines. The Star Wheel reads your potential and draws from this star to graft a Kama Seal upon your body—each one personalized to your talents."
He paused to let the weight of his words sink in.
"Step one: When you approach the Star Wheel, you must offer your blood. Just a drop is enough. The Wheel will absorb it and begin syncing with your chakra. Step two: you must release all the chakra in your body. The dial hand of the Star Wheel will begin to spin, illuminating the darkened planetary nodes that orbit it. The more planets you light, the greater your talent. The ceremony is not only a rite of passage, but a divine evaluation."
Suzan raised his hand, projecting an image of the Star Wheel into the air. The floating model showed five planetary rings, each growing in complexity and number.
"Now," he continued, "the system is divided into five categories."
He pointed to the first ring. "First Category: Common Tier. If you fail to light up all 12 planets on your first spin, you fall here. You will receive a basic Kama Seal—an amplification of your abilities by five times, and the ability to store and transfer basic data to your next host. However, none of your current powers will carry over."
He didn't hide the faint disdain in his voice.
"Second Category: Morning Star. This marks you as a genius. If you light up all 12 planets on your first spin, you enter the second cycle. The more planets you ignite there, the higher your standing within Morning Star. The Kama Seal granted offers 10 to 120 times amplification and allows you to retain most of your current abilities for the next host."
Suzan glanced around the room before stepping forward, pride seeping into his voice.
"Third Category: Radiant Moon. Only exceptional geniuses reach this tier. I myself once attained this level during my youth." His back straightened. "The Radiant Moon Kama Seal offers up to twelve thousand times amplification depending on your third spin results. It also comes with advanced techniques. First: the control of host puppets—perfect vessels whose memories can be erased, and whose growth can be artificially enhanced. Second: the ability to manipulate Moonlight Attacks, elemental energies of such purity they can overwhelm anyone below Stage-9 Galaxy Dominator. These techniques are devastating at Stages 5 to 8."
A murmur rippled through the chamber. Even the elders shifted ever so slightly in interest.
Suzan's tone dropped into reverence.
"Fourth Category: Sunfire. In all of recorded clan history, only 120 Ōtsutsuki have ever received this classification. They are beings beyond genius. Their seals amplify power between one hundred thousand and 1.2 million times. They possess all previous abilities, plus the power to fuse hosts, merging multiple races into powerful, loyal amalgams."
He paused, letting the awe hang in the air.
"The Sunfire Kama also bestows access to Sunfire Energy, more formidable than Moonlight. These flames can wound even Stage-10 Divine-tier beings. Additionally, if the user is killed, the seal retaliates—either destroying the killer or rebinding them into a new host. Only other Ōtsutsuki can resist this counter."
Now his voice turned dismissive, almost smug.
"Fifth and Final Category: Divine Kama. Only two beings have ever reached this level: Ascendant Shibai, and our current clan leader, Ōtsutsuki Zaruken. I have no detailed knowledge of this seal… nor should you waste your thoughts on it. None among you are worthy of such a thing."
With that, Suzan snapped his fingers. "That concludes the explanation. We shall begin the selection now."
High above, seated like a silent god, Reizan had listened intently to the entire speech. His arms rested on the crystal armrest of his elevated throne, eyes half-lidded in contemplation.
So even Kama Seals have tiers, he thought. How… interesting. It seems they attempt to quantify power through star-based systems. But if there's a Divine one… I wonder if I'll awaken it.
He glanced downward at the main family members preparing to be tested.
Tch. Let's see what kind of trash these "geniuses" are.
Just then, a mental message echoed in his mind. It was Tensai.
"My Lord, the elders and I have agreed. You shall be the final participant. That way, your dominance will be undeniable."
Reizan smirked, replying telepathically, "Fine by me. I'll leave a spectacle they won't forget."
Below, Suzan called out the first name. A young Ōtsutsuki male with thin, brownish horns stood up. His movements were hesitant, but respectful. The hall remained silent as he approached the divine pathway that led directly to the Star Wheel.
The pathway shimmered with astral dust, illuminating every step he took. Suzan walked beside him, instructing: "Proceed toward the Star Wheel. When you're close enough, offer your blood. Then release your chakra."
The young Ōtsutsuki nodded and slowly approached the massive blue Star Wheel. The blazing star behind it radiated unbearable heat, but the transparent divine barrier insulated the participant from harm. As he neared the device, he cut his palm. A drop of blood floated through the air and was immediately absorbed by the wheel. A loud hum echoed as the machine came to life, glowing deep purple.
The Ōtsutsuki then unleashed his chakra. Tremendous energy surged into the wheel. The dial began to spin. Slowly… then faster.
One planet lit up. Then another… and another…
Six planets.
Then it stopped.
Suzan's voice rang through the silence.
"Common Category."
A black seal appeared on the boy's right arm like a brand of failure.
"You may leave," Suzan said coldly, not hiding his disappointment. His eyes flicked to the elders, his face expressionless, but his inner thoughts flared with disdain.
Mixed-blooded trash…
The boy returned to his seat, his head lowered in shame as quiet laughter and mocking sneers rose from nearby clan members.
Soon, more members of the main family arrived, stepping up one by one to have their talents assessed. Suzan, ever expressionless, waved his hand over each candidate after they activated the Star Wheel."You are Common Tier.""…Common Tier."Another. And another.
One after the other, the results echoed the same. A sea of mediocrity. Suzan's gaze darkened with growing disappointment, the gleam in his eyes dimming as even the prestigious bloodlines failed to produce brilliance.
Then, a small stir passed through the crowd. Footsteps echoed lightly across the platform. An Otsutsuki figure, about five feet tall, approached with deliberate poise. He had two folded brown horns curving backward, a pale face, and blank white eyes glowing faintly.
"Hey… isn't that Momoshiki Otsutsuki?" one of the main family members whispered."He's supposed to be a genius, right?" murmured another. Even the branch family seated on the left began to murmur, recognizing the name.
Momoshiki stood tall, pride straightening his back as he reached the Star Wheel. He gave Suzan a respectful nod but spoke nothing aloud.Inside, however, his mind raced with ambition.I, Momoshiki Otsutsuki, am a true genius. I'll definitely receive at least a Radiant Moon… maybe even higher. Once I show my brilliance, they'll all see I'm more talented than that smug Reizan.
As his thoughts turned toward Reizan, his gaze followed. Reizan sat calmly among the elder seats, his eyes closed, completely unfazed—completely disinterested.
Momoshiki's pride cracked.
You bastard… Sitting there like some untouchable king… it's only because your father is Lord Shibai. Without his shadow, you're nothing. Just wait—I'll surpass you. I'll rise faster than you ever could once I get my Kama.
With a controlled breath, Momoshiki approached the Star Wheel. He drew a droplet of blood and infused his chakra. The ancient device responded immediately.
The giant hand began to rotate.Click. First planet—lit.Click. Second—lit.Click. Third… fourth… all the way to the twelfth.
A ripple of awe passed through the hall. But it didn't stop.
The dial started a second rotation.
A sharp gasp rang out from the crowd. The platform itself glowed faintly as white light enveloped the Star Wheel.
Suzan's eyes lit up with rare interest."Morning Star Tier," he declared with a voice that echoed across the vast dome.
Whispers turned to envy. Even those who had received Common Tier results clenched their fists in silence. Why him? Why not me?
But Momoshiki only smiled, drinking in their stares as he locked eyes with Reizan once more. This time, Reizan opened one eyelid lazily.
Still, the wheel kept turning. The second spin continued:First planet… second… third…Finally, it halted at the tenth planet.
Suzan's voice rang out again. "Morning Star—Tenth Planet. Outstanding potential."
From the Star Wheel, a brilliant blue Kama Seal emerged—etched with ten radiant diamonds around its circumference. It surged toward Momoshiki, engraving itself into the back of his hand with glowing force.
A sudden wave of power surged through his body. His chakra expanded rapidly—a hundredfold amplification.
Momoshiki laughed under his breath, giddy with newfound strength. This power… I've never felt anything like it. I feel reborn.
He turned once more to Reizan, eyes sharp with challenge."Just wait," he muttered low, "if you end up with a Common Tier, everyone will laugh at you. They'll finally see you for what you really are."
But Reizan had already looked away, seemingly uninterested.
Still, he was quietly thinking:So that's Momoshiki… No wonder he strutted in here like he owned the world. His talent isn't bad… But what a pity.He talked like he'd achieve Radiant Moon or beyond, and still fell short.
