Naruto: My Goal Is Tsunade

Chapter 28: [28] The First Gate of the Eight Gates

Ryosuke got straight to the point—he didn't see any need for games or deception. He believed in Guy's character. If there was one person in Konoha who couldn't be corrupted, it was Might Guy.

Unlike many others in the village, Guy wasn't the type to scheme or play politics.

When Guy heard Ryosuke mention the Eight Gates, his expression turned solemn. That technique brought back memories of his father.

Four years ago, during the Shinobi World War between Konoha and the Hidden Mist, Guy had still been a Genin. He, along with Genma Shiranui and Ebisu, had been surrounded by the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist.

To save them, Guy's father had opened all Eight Gates, defeating four of the swordsmen and rescuing the three of them—at the cost of his life. His body was completely burned out from the technique.

Guy's father had been a great man.

Naturally, Guy wanted to live with the same resolve, to carry his father's will and protect the people and the village he held dear.

Snapping out of the memory, he looked at Ryosuke.

"How do you know about the Eight Gates?"

Ryosuke blinked, a little confused by the question. After all, the Uchiha Clan had also taken part in the Third Shinobi World War against the Hidden Mist.

The fact that Might Duy had taken down four of the Mist's elite swordsmen using Eight Gates was huge—it wasn't the kind of thing that should be hidden.

"Am I not supposed to know?" Ryosuke replied, puzzled by Guy's serious tone. Was he going to refuse to teach him?

But Ryosuke remembered that even in the original timeline, Kakashi had learned the Eight Gates. And while he had only been training with Guy for a little over a month, their relationship was solid.

Guy's smile never seemed forced. He wasn't the kind of person to fake expressions like Itachi.

Guy quickly realized what was going on. Ryosuke was from the Uchiha Clan—specifically, the grandson of the clan's elder. Even if the Third Hokage had tried to suppress the information, the Uchiha certainly had their own intelligence network.

He smiled.

"Ah, I nearly forgot—you're the Uchiha Elder's grandson. Even if the Hokage tried to bury the incident, your clan would've found out."

Ryosuke understood instantly. That explained why many of the arrogant members of his clan looked down on Guy—they didn't know the full story. It was because the Third Hokage had deliberately sealed away the truth.

As for why the Hokage would suppress such heroic deeds, Ryosuke didn't fully understand. But he didn't press the issue. There were too many things in this village that didn't make sense.

Take Naruto, the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki. The Hokage claimed to protect him, yet his status as a jinchuriki had leaked while his identity as the Fourth Hokage's son was kept secret. The villagers hated him because of the Nine-Tails' attack—countless lives were lost.

That hate made sense. But keeping only half the truth hidden? That was suspicious.

Ryosuke pressed forward.

"Guy, will you teach me?"

Guy's face grew serious.

"Ryosuke… I don't know where you learned about this technique, but you need to understand—while it grants great power, the Eight Gates takes a heavy toll on the body."

"If you open the final gate—the Gate of Death—you will die."

Ryosuke wasn't fazed.

He had a powerful body, one that grew stronger with every passing day. A technique as broken as the Eight Gates had to come with a cost—no power came without a price.

In a world where Kage-level fighters were the pinnacle, unlocking the Eight Gates could give someone many times that strength. In that context, trading your life wasn't unreasonable.

And Ryosuke had his reasons.

He looked Guy in the eye.

"Even if it's dangerous, I have to learn it."

He had tried influencing Itachi's rigid beliefs. Whether he had succeeded or not remained to be seen.

If he had… then with Fugaku, Itachi, Shisui, and himself, the Uchiha would have four top-tier fighters. They could protect the clan—and the village.

But things didn't always go the way they should. Both Itachi and Shisui had chosen to side with Konoha's leadership.

Ryosuke couldn't understand what exactly they were so loyal to.

If he couldn't change Itachi's mind, he'd have to be strong enough to act alone.

Fugaku was weak—a coward who allowed himself to be killed by his own son on the night of the massacre. Ryosuke saw that as pathetic.

He had people to protect—his grandfather, who was just like the one from his previous world, and Uchiha Izumi, a girl too cute to die without ever knowing happiness. She deserved more.

Guy saw Ryosuke's unwavering determination—eyes that reminded him of his father's resolve.

He must have something he needed to protect too.

Guy said seriously:

"Alright. I'll teach you the Eight Gates."

He was well aware of the tension between the Uchiha and the village leadership, but after more than a month with Ryosuke, he believed in him. His instincts told him Ryosuke wouldn't betray Konoha.

He was a friend. And if he did stray from the path, Guy would be the one to drag him back—by force if necessary. After all, he had trained in the Eight Gates for nearly a decade.

Even if Ryosuke was a genius, Guy wasn't going to lose so easily.

Ryosuke's heart stirred. Guy hadn't let him down.

"Thanks."

Guy smiled and said,

"This isn't the kind of technique we can train just anywhere. It's dangerous. Let's go somewhere else."

Ryosuke nodded.

They headed to the top of the Hokage Rock, where there was a vast open space.

Guy nodded in satisfaction. It was the same place where he had once taught Kakashi the Eight Gates. Now, he'd be teaching a second close friend here.

The area was empty, ideal for training—a destructive technique like the Eight Gates would tear up the surroundings.

Guy looked at Ryosuke seriously.

"Let me explain what the Eight Gates are."

"The Eight Gates technique releases the body's chakra limiters to temporarily draw out immense strength."

"In the body's chakra pathway system, there are eight nodes that regulate and suppress chakra: the Gate of Opening, Gate of Rest, Gate of Life, Gate of Pain, Gate of Limit, Gate of View, Gate of Wonder, and Gate of Death."

"These gates limit the chakra output. The Eight Gates technique forcibly breaks these limits, unlocking dozens of times more power than the body normally holds."

"But this power comes at a cost—it damages the body. That's why it's classified as forbidden and was sealed by the Third Hokage."

"He feared shinobi would abuse the power and destroy their bodies, weakening Konoha in the long run."

Ryosuke now understood why so few people used such a powerful technique in the village.

Guy then carefully explained the location of each gate: Opening and Rest were on either side of the brain; Life, Pain, Limit, View, and Wonder ran down through the torso; and finally, Death—near the heart.

When he got to the final gate, Guy hesitated.

He had seen the horrifying aftermath of opening all Eight Gates firsthand—his father's body looked as if it had been burned alive.

Ryosuke waited for him to continue.

Guy looked troubled.

"I don't know if I should teach you the last one. Once you open the Gate of Death, there's no turning back—you will die. Are you sure you still want to learn it?"

"Yes."

Ryosuke didn't hesitate.

He knew the risks. But with his enhanced constitution, it wasn't impossible that he could survive it.

Even if not, it was better to know and use it as a last resort.

Guy pointed to his heart.

"The Gate of Death is here. If you open it, you'll die. Please… only use it if you truly have to."

Ryosuke nodded.

"Don't worry. I'm not going to throw my life away."

Guy continued:

"The Eight Gates are powerful, but they're also extremely difficult to master. It took me ten years just to reach the fifth gate."

"Your body's stronger than mine. If you work hard, I think you can catch up in five years."

Ryosuke grimaced internally. Five years? He didn't have that kind of time.

The Uchiha Massacre wasn't far off. If he didn't master the Eight Gates soon, he'd have no trump card against Itachi.

Even if he convinced Itachi to stand down, the Konoha leadership was still a threat. Danzo, inheriting the Second Hokage's hatred of the Uchiha, would never stop.

Not even Naruto's infamous talk-no-jutsu could change that kind of deep-rooted belief.

And the Third Hokage, who allowed Danzo to act unchecked, was no saint either.

Still, Ryosuke didn't let his true thoughts show. Instead, he said wryly,

"You really think too highly of me if you think I can catch up in five years."

Guy responded earnestly:

"If I hadn't seen your progress over the past month, I wouldn't have said that."

"Now let me show you how to open the First Gate—the Gate of Opening."

Ryosuke activated his Sharingan, watching closely for how chakra moved through Guy's body.

He needed to catch every detail.

Guy noticed and couldn't help but feel a little envious.

How could he forget—Ryosuke had the Sharingan, which could see chakra flow and internal networks. His learning speed might be even faster than expected.

With a sigh, Guy clenched his fists and began refining chakra, focusing it toward the Gate of Opening in the left side of his brain.

A bulging vein appeared on his forehead.

"This is the Gate of Opening. It unlocks the brain's limiter, allowing your body to operate at 100% capacity. It drastically boosts strength and speed, but at the cost of high energy consumption."

Ryosuke could clearly feel the surge in Guy's aura.

Guy smiled.

"Your Sharingan should have caught everything, right?"

Kakashi had copied many jutsu with the Sharingan. Ryosuke, as a true Uchiha, should have even better mastery.

Ryosuke nodded and asked,

"I saw it, but how do you turn it off afterward?"

The bulging vein looked intense. Keeping that state active too long could be dangerous.

Guy chuckled.

"That's easy."

"Just stop refining chakra. Without chakra to sustain it, the gate closes automatically."

He stopped channeling chakra. Sure enough, the bulge vanished and the gate closed.

Ryosuke observed it all clearly through his Sharingan.

So the trick wasn't in closing it—but opening it.

"I see. Let me give it a try."

Ryosuke mimicked Guy, clenched his fists, and began refining his chakra.

He focused it toward the Gate of Opening.

At first, he hit resistance—the natural limiter was strong. Chakra wouldn't pass through easily.

So he refined more and surged it forward again.

Finally, the gate creaked open slightly.

But just as he felt a surge of joy—pain struck his head like a spike.

It was a searing, stabbing agony in his brain, and he immediately stopped.

The gate closed again, but the pain lingered.

It felt like needles jabbing into his brain.

After all, the Gate of Opening was located at the side of the brain—tampering with it wasn't without cost.
