Naruto : Nameless Brothel

Chapter 3: Dark place

Like a flame that can either warm the soul or consume those who get too close, so is love. Its uncertain nature makes it both a poison and a cure, a sweet madness that slowly but surely eats away at the human heart—and Naruto had learned this the hard way.

Three days had passed, and darkness weighed heavily upon the cell, a suffocating mass that seemed ready to swallow him whole. The air was still heavy, thick with humidity and the stale scent of uneaten meals. A thin sliver of light filtered through the bars of the door, casting a gray glow over the rough floor.

Naruto sat with his back against the wall, wrists bound in chains. The metal bit into his skin, but he no longer felt the pain. It was nothing compared to the torment gnawing at his mind.

He should have seen it coming—since childhood, Sakura had only ever had eyes for Sasuke. To her, he had never been more than an annoyance.

He had foolishly believed that his persistence, his smile, his promises would be enough to change her mind. But Sakura's voice still echoed in his skull, sharp as a kunai.

She didn't love him. She never had, and she probably never would. Deep down, he had always known it. But accepting it was something else entirely.

Why had he sacrificed everything? Why had he shattered himself into a thousand pieces, again and again, for a future that would never exist?

His breathing was ragged. His chest rose and fell with effort, as if each breath cost him an unbearable amount of strength. He wanted to speak, to scream, to cry out—but there was no one to listen.

In the suffocating silence, another voice crept into his mind. Deep, mocking, almost gentle.

"So, that's it? You're no better than me after all—the great Naruto Uzumaki, abandoned like a dog in a cage?"

Kurama.

He barely lifted his head. The fox was there, lurking in the corner of his consciousness, his gaze burning with a mixture of contempt and amusement.

"Pathetic."

Naruto didn't answer. What was the point? He no longer had the strength to put on a brave face.

A rough chuckle rumbled through his mind.

"You knew, didn't you? You knew they would never love you the way you love them."

Naruto's fists clenched despite the chains. Kurama was right. He had always known. Since childhood, he had been nothing more than a loudmouthed outcast, a pariah desperately seeking to be seen, to be loved.

But what had he truly gained in return?

Sasuke had left. Sakura had rejected him. And now, he was at Danzo's mercy.

He was alone.

His vision blurred. He wasn't even sure if he was crying anymore.

The darkness pressed in on him. He vaguely wondered what would happen if he simply stopped resisting. If he just let the void consume him.

Maybe then, it wouldn't hurt anymore.

Kurama fell silent. He watched, attentive. Perhaps he was waiting to see how far Naruto would fall before making his move. Despite all the time they had spent together, it wasn't as if the fox cared for him, after all.

A metallic sound echoed through the cell.

His heartbeat quickened, just for a moment—pure reflex. Was someone finally coming for him? Had anyone even noticed his absence?

The locks creaked, and the door slowly swung open, allowing a dim but piercing light to invade the cell.

As his eyes adjusted, he saw a figure standing in the doorway—like something out of a fantasy tale.

Her hair, a cascade of brilliant white, flowed over her shoulders like silken snow, contrasting starkly against the darkness of her attire. Partially hidden by a white cat mask adorned with sinuous red markings—reminiscent of flames or splattered blood—her face remained an enigma.

The mask, both elegant and unsettling, left only her eyes visible—deep, piercing blue, as cold and unfathomable as the ocean.

She stepped into the cell, carrying Naruto's meal in her hands. Every movement, every step, exuded a hypnotic grace. Her black attire clung perfectly to her frame, emphasizing each contour, further amplifying the air of mystery that surrounded her.

Reaching him, she placed the meal beside him. A quick glance around the room led her to notice the untouched trays piled in a distant corner. She let out a soft sigh before standing up and turning away.

"You call yourself a ninja, yet you give up so easily," she said, her voice calm and cold, perfectly complementing her presence as she walked away.

Naruto wanted to respond, but he simply lowered his head. What did it even mean to be a ninja? Did she have any idea what he was going through?

And yet, something about her stood out—though she acted with detachment, she did not seem disgusted by him. Unlike the others, she treated him with a level of humanity. Another one of Danzo's tricks, perhaps?

His gaze fell on the meal before him—bread and stew, better than what he had been given before. Yet, he still lacked the will to eat. Closing his eyes, trying to sleep, her words resurfaced in his mind.

Now that he thought about it, why had he decided to become a ninja in the first place? What did that word truly mean?

To become Hokage, to earn the village's recognition… In the end, all of it had been for others. His dream, his goals—they had all been built around gaining their approval.

"What the hell have I been doing?" he thought, his fists clenching weakly. "Why should I live my life for others? Why should I break myself just to satisfy their expectations? What do I even gain in the end…?"

The more he thought about it, the angrier he became—angry at himself for being so foolish. Images of his childhood resurfaced—how the villagers had treated him, how the other children had looked at him at the academy, and most painfully, how the one he had loved with all his heart had rejected him.

"I've had enough…!" He clicked his tongue, his eyes darkening. "It's over."

He sat up and reached for his meal.

A new resolve had been born within the heart of the young Uzumaki.

To have this realization in a place like this, under such circumstances—should he curse fate or be grateful for it?

It didn't matter.

He had just made a decision that might be the most important of his life.

Now, it was only a matter of seeing where it would take him.
