Chapter 37: CHAPTER 37 - The Root of the Shinobi World War
"Philosophy?" Tsunade scoffed at the word and casually said to Hyuga Mirai, "Kid, you're only ten. What do you know about philosophy? I'm one of the Sannin. How many people want to be my disciple, and yet you refuse?"
"Being ten doesn't mean I can't have a philosophy. I can come to you for guidance on training, but if I become your disciple, we'll end up parting ways eventually. Tsunade-sama, you're too emotional. That's why you're thinking about leaving Konoha so suddenly," Hyuga Mirai paused for a moment before continuing, "Tsunade-sama, let's discuss something. Who do you think is responsible for the frequent wars in the shinobi world?"
Tsunade's face froze when she heard this question. It was beyond her expectations. While she had worked for peace in the past, she had never really considered who was behind the wars. Tsunade had participated in the Second Shinobi World War, and the memories were still vivid. Was it the Demigod Hanzō of the Salamander? Or the Sand ninjas? But that time, the Hidden Sand was the one that invaded the Land of Rain. She remembered clearly that, in order to avoid fighting on their own soil, Konoha had chosen to battle the Sand ninjas in the Land of Rain, pulling the Rain village into the conflict.
Although it was for the defense of the village, the Hidden Sand had already shown intentions of aggression, but it was Konoha that initiated the war.
"Perhaps you should hear my thoughts first, Tsunade-sama," Hyuga Mirai said after a pause. "I believe the root cause is the Sage of the Six Paths and your grandfather, the God of Ninjas, Senju Hashirama."
"What did you just say, you brat!?" Tsunade exclaimed.
"Hold on, Tsunade-sama, don't get angry just yet. Let me finish," Hyuga Mirai quickly interjected, raising his hand. He wasn't using a shadow clone this time, and if Tsunade's punch hit, he'd be bedridden for half a month.
"Alright, let's see what nonsense you have to say," Tsunade said angrily, slamming her fist on the desk. She crossed her arms and coldly stared at Hyuga Mirai. In her heart, her grandfather was the legendary ninja who had brought peace to a chaotic world, and she had always been proud of him. This wasn't just her personal view; it was shared by the whole of Konoha. Even the Ninja Academy textbooks wrote about the achievements of the God of Ninjas, though they exaggerated quite a bit.
"Tell me, Tsunade-sama, how many people can an ordinary person kill?" Hyuga Mirai asked.
Tsunade frowned. "How would I know?"
Hyuga Mirai didn't mind and continued, "Let's assume the opponent fights back. If we take the physical strength of an average person into account, after killing more than ten people, they would be exhausted. If they had weapons, they might manage to kill thirty to fifty people."
"But if you replace the weapon with chakra, even a genin can easily kill dozens of ordinary people. If they can use ninjutsu, the efficiency increases even more."
"You could say that chakra is more effective than any weapon. Even the samurai have started to learn chakra, because it makes them stronger. The source of the widespread use of chakra must be the Sage of the Six Paths, right? He spread chakra to connect people's minds, isn't that right?"
Tsunade didn't contradict him on this point, as it was true that chakra and the Sage of the Six Paths' legacy were well known.
Hyuga Mirai then asked, "Tsunade-sama, would you let me connect to your mind and see everything you're thinking?"
"Are you joking, you brat!?" Tsunade responded sharply. Wasn't that one of the Yamanaka Clan's interrogation techniques? There was no way she'd agree to something like that.
Hyuga Mirai shook his head. "Looks like the Sage of the Six Paths' vision failed. But chakra has spread widely, and now there are more than a hundred thousand people who possess it."
"The samurai under the Daimyō used to fight in wars where only dozens would die. But with ninjas, casualties are often in the hundreds."
"This is the result of the Sage of the Six Paths' intent. His idea was good, and when he was alive, he achieved it. But after he passed away, his plan slowly unraveled. Just like your grandfather. While he was alive, his powerful strength brought peace to the world, but after the First Hokage passed…"
Hyuga Mirai continued to explain his thoughts. If we sum up the actions of the Sage of the Six Paths, it's clear that he didn't think things through far enough. With his overwhelming power, he could make others follow his lead, but once he died, everything fell apart. The roots of the struggles could even be traced back to Ashura and Indra, although Black Zetsu took half the blame.
"If chakra hadn't spread so widely, and instead was controlled by only a few, even if there were still conflicts today, they would only involve a few hundred people with swords and spears fighting for a while before negotiating. The casualties would be much less than the ones caused by ninja battles."
"If the Sage of the Six Paths started something that didn't end well, I don't understand what your grandfather, Senju Hashirama, was thinking." Hyuga Mirai directly complained to Tsunade, "What was the idea behind the tailed beasts? Was it to balance the power between the nations and prevent wars from breaking out easily? Why didn't he just send Konoha's ninjutsu scrolls out to everyone? Now look, once war breaks out, Konoha ninjas will have to face the very tailed beasts they sent out."
Tsunade retorted, "You brat, the power of the tailed beasts is not so easy to control. The decision to give them away was made after much consideration."
Hyuga Mirai spoke again, "But the current result is completely opposite to what your grandfather wanted. If Konoha ninjas saw the Jinchūriki from the Hidden Cloud village on the battlefield, even ordinary ninjas would probably be scared out of their wits."
The Hidden Cloud had found the perfect method to train Jinchūriki, and the Hidden Mist was also training them. The Hidden Stone's Four-Tails Jinchūriki wasn't very cooperative, but the Five-Tails Jinchūriki was already ready for the battlefield. Moreover, at that time, there was Senju Tobirama, the great inventor, who even created the jutsu to summon the dead. Hyuga Mirai didn't believe that Tobirama couldn't figure out a way to control the tailed beasts.
In simple terms, the problem lay in being too focused on peace while disregarding the reality of how things could backfire.
"You brat!!" Tsunade's face turned red with anger.
"I'm leaving now, Tsunade-sama," Hyuga Mirai said, noticing the vein on her forehead was about to pop. He decided to take his leave. But before leaving, he added, "Tsunade-sama, what I said might not be entirely correct, but you can consider it as a reference. If you have other thoughts, we can discuss them further."
Hyuga Mirai didn't regret what he said once he stepped out of the door. Even if Tsunade asked him again, once was enough. If she couldn't understand it, then there would be no need for further discussion.
In any case, he had already asked most of what he wanted to know about the Sealing Jutsu and Medical Nin Jutsu. Although Tsunade hadn't taught him specific techniques, Hyuga Mirai had understood the principles behind two S-rank jutsus. In the future, he planned to create his own S-rank ninjutsu.
Everything Hyuga Mirai was doing was for the sake of improving his strength. Even studying the Caged Bird technique was aimed at eliminating his deadly weaknesses.
As he left Konoha Hospital and made his way home, Hyuga Mirai couldn't stop thinking, "Why hasn't Orochimaru come looking for me yet? Should I release more of the cell-gene research?"
