NARUTO: Ninja World Scientific Revolution

Chapter 39: CHAPTER 39 - Companions on the Path of Truth

After hearing Hyuga Mirai's words, Orochimaru felt a certain level of agreement, but he wouldn't open up just because of a few sentences. He had come here today because his research had hit a roadblock, and coincidentally, he had come across a research paper by Hyuga Mirai on cells, which sparked some new ideas. So, he decided to pay a visit to this genius, whose reputation in Konoha was well-known.

However, Orochimaru hadn't expected that upon meeting, Hyuga Mirai would treat him like an old friend, showing such warmth. Especially when Hyuga Mirai spoke about his pursuit of truth, it resonated with Orochimaru deeply. In Konoha, Orochimaru had thought that everyone was just pushing the same old, decaying windmill, but to his surprise, he had encountered a refreshing breeze here. At present, it was a small breeze, but one that could potentially grow into a storm capable of shaking the entire ninja world.

While sipping his tea, this thought suddenly crossed Orochimaru's mind, though he couldn't quite explain why he felt that way.

"Lord Orochimaru, how far have you progressed in your research? Or is there any specific problem that's stumping you?" Hyuga Mirai asked, all the while suspecting that Orochimaru had already begun experimenting with Hashirama's cells, though not very smoothly.

"I've obtained a type of cell. It possesses immense vitality— even decades after the owner of the cells has died, the cells remain highly active," Orochimaru explained, getting into the topic of his research. Aside from mentioning the name of Hashirama's cells and the specific experimental data, he elaborated on his research progress and the challenges he had encountered.

At this point, Orochimaru had not been researching Hashirama's cells for long, and most of his experiments were based on the research left by the Second Hokage. His understanding of cell genes was still quite basic.

After listening to Orochimaru's explanation, Hyuga Mirai began to give him targeted advice, explaining the research behind genetic sequences and the information he had gathered from the cells of a branch family member of the Hyuga clan. Genetic sequences contained a wealth of information, and thoroughly studying them could provide significant help in future experiments.

Hyuga Mirai had inherited the full knowledge of Dr. Genus, a top genetic biologist known for his ability to increase cell division and achieve perfect cloning. In terms of biological genetics, Orochimaru was the only one in the "Boruto" timeline who could rival Dr. Genus in expertise.

At this stage, Orochimaru was still relatively young in this field and had only recently begun to delve into it. However, he had an immense talent for research, managing to catch up with a century's worth of scientific development in other worlds in just a few decades.

Hyuga Mirai even suspected that, if left undisturbed, Orochimaru might eventually outlast the Otsutsuki Clan.

The two spent several hours in the Konoha Hospital laboratory, with most of the time spent in a question-and-answer format, where Orochimaru asked and Hyuga Mirai answered.

By the time evening fell, Orochimaru reluctantly stood up to leave, his voice hoarse as he said with a smile, "Mirai-kun, coming to find you was undoubtedly the right decision. With your answers, I believe my experiment will succeed very soon."

Although they had been discussing, most of the time Hyuga Mirai had been helping Orochimaru organize his experimental methods. When Orochimaru mentioned the problems he faced in his experiments, Hinata Mirai couldn't help but frown. It was too crude!

Orochimaru's experimental methods were not only rough but inefficient—he was trying to conduct human trials in order to quickly eliminate incorrect directions, without any conclusive results so far. This kind of method struck Hyuga Mirai as wasteful of both time and resources. It wasn't that he was concerned for the test subjects' lives, but this approach was neither productive nor effective.

However, Hyuga Mirai was confident that after today, Orochimaru would begin to adopt a more scientific approach in his research on Hashirama's cells. Judging by Orochimaru's excited expression, Mirai estimated that he would likely stay up all night studying the genetic sequence in those cells.

"Mirai-kun, I came in such a rush today, but next time I'll bring you some gifts. I'll take my leave for now." With that, Orochimaru quickly stood up and left.

Hyuga Mirai, hearing those last words, finally felt content. He had spent the entire afternoon explaining genetics to Orochimaru. "But Orochimaru really is sharp. If he had this kind of mind in another world, he'd at least be starting out as a double Ph.D."

Sighing, Hyuga Mirai tidied up the laboratory before leaving Konoha Hospital. In the future, he could exchange ideas with Orochimaru a few more times—there was much more to learn from this Sannin than from Tsunade. Not to mention, just the summoning scrolls of the Ryūchi Cave were tempting to him.

In battle, Hyuga Mirai lacked large-scale offensive techniques, but the giant snakes of Ryūchi Cave could make up for that shortcoming. Additionally, Ryūchi Cave held the legacy of Sage Mode, something Mirai didn't intend to learn directly from the snakes but could certainly use as a reference to develop his own human-based Sage techniques.

While Tsunade had the legacy of Shikotsu Forest, with its medical-oriented summons like the slug, Hyuga Mirai wasn't particularly fond of them. His goal in studying medical ninjutsu was for research purposes, not to save people.

Orochimaru also had access to Konoha's Forbidden Scroll of Seals, which contained numerous jutsu that could significantly help Hyuga Mirai.

Back home, Hyuga Mirai reviewed his current situation. His reputation was already beyond that of a mere young genius; after creating the Healing Talismans, he had proven his worth in the medical field. Since Tsunade had left, no one else in the medical world seemed to match his skills. Even in Konoha Hospital, only one or two individuals surpassed him in medical ninjutsu.

As for his strength, although he hadn't fought seriously yet, Hyuga Mirai knew he was definitely stronger than a Chunin. What worried him was how he would fare against a fully-powered Jonin—he wasn't sure of the outcome.

"Once my relationship with Orochimaru deepens, I can ask him for an assessment," Hyuga Mirai thought, knowing that with the strength of a Sannin, Orochimaru would be able to give him a precise evaluation.

At this stage, Hyuga Mirai's most important task was to continue studying the Hyuga clan's cellular genes, hoping to find a way to undo the Caged Bird Seal. He was also focused on increasing his own strength. Without more power, even a Jonin's odds of survival in battle were not guaranteed.

After sorting out his thoughts, Hyuga Mirai formulated a plan. The next morning, he arrived early at Konoha Hospital's laboratory. For the time being, he would focus all his efforts on breaking the Caged Bird Seal.

With the genetic material from both the main and branch families of the Hyuga clan, as well as the information from over a dozen branch family members, Hyuga Mirai was confident he would find a way to break the Caged Bird Seal. After all, if there were methods to break the Six Paths Seals, the Hyuga clan's Caged Bird Seal couldn't be impossible to solve.
