Chapter 16: Chapter 16 : Night Of Extermination
The pressure on Konoha's leadership was growing heavier with each passing day. The fear of a coup from the Uchiha clan was no longer just a whisper—it had become a looming storm cloud over the heads of the Hokage and his advisors.
Every night, Hiruzen Sarutobi sat in silence, staring out his office window, his thoughts tangled with worry. Nothing had changed on the surface. The Uchiha clan was quiet, as they had always been. But now, there was one terrifying new factor that robbed him of sleep—the possibility that the Uchiha had gotten their hands on Shisui's Mangekyō Sharingan.
Kotoamatsukami.
It was just an assumption. It was completely possible that the eye had fallen into someone else's hands. Both outcomes were bad nonetheless. However, the immediate danger the village faced was from the Uchiha clan if they were to get that kind of power somehow.
A genjutsu so powerful that it could rewrite a person's will without them even realizing it. If that eye was truly in the hands of the Uchiha clan, then there was no telling what they might do. They could take control of anyone… even Naruto. And through Naruto, the Nine Tails.
That fear made Hiruzen increase surveillance around the boy. ANBU watched Naruto from a distance day and night, hidden in the shadows. No one could approach him without being seen. Hiruzen hated doing this, but he couldn't take the risk.
Meanwhile, Danzo was fanning the flames from behind the scenes. Life gave him lemons, and Danzo Shimura was too used to it—to the point he was already planning to make lemon juice.
He lost both of his eyes, one of which was the stolen eye from Kakami, and the replacement he had planned for—Shisui's eye. He lost his only remaining hand. He lost some trust and major credibility from the higher-ups and his friends. However, he planned to use the situation for his benefit.
He'd use this chance to burn the evil Uchiha from the roots.
At every council meeting, he brought up the same points. The Uchiha were dangerous. They were acting suspicious. They were growing stronger and more isolated from the rest of the village. And now, with a possible Mangekyō in their hands, they could not be ignored any longer.
Danzo knew Hiruzen well. He knew how deeply his old friend clung to peace, to hope, and to the Will of Fire. But Danzo also knew Hiruzen had limits—and Danzo kept pressing them.
Eventually, Hiruzen gave in.
He called Danzo into his office and, with a heavy heart and a tired voice, told him, "Do what you must. But make sure you don't go overboard."
Danzo didn't reply with words. He simply left the office without saying anything. The Third Hokage had a lingering feeling he wouldn't like the outcome, but he was spent. There was nothing else he could do about it anymore.
Inside, though, Danzo was smiling. He had been waiting for this moment. The moment when power and fear would finally be put in his hands. And now, he would take the action he believed should have been taken long ago.
He wasted no time. He summoned Itachi immediately.
Danzo didn't waste time. He exaggerated the situation, made it sound as if the Uchiha could start a coup any second. He told Itachi that the clan was no longer loyal. That if the village waited, it would be too late.
He gave Itachi two choices.
"Either you kill your entire clan, become a rogue shinobi, and take all the blame upon yourself. Or... the truth will come out. Your clan will be destroyed, and their name will forever be stained as traitors. Choose."
Itachi stood there, his world collapsing. This Itachi was only 12 years old. Asking a 12-year-old child to kill his entire family, his parents, his relatives, his entire clan...
Which child wouldn't snap under this?
However, Itachi had always been loyal—to Konoha, to peace, to the ideals of the village. But he also loved his clan. His family. His little siblings.
He had never agreed with everything the Uchiha did, but he had also never wanted this.
Danzo's words were sharp, unforgiving, cruel. And Itachi knew that once this path was taken, there would be no going back.
'What would you do in this situation, Shisui...' he muttered to himself, heart trembling while jaw clenched.
He wanted to deny it, wanted to just avoid this outcome completely.
Still, he agreed. He had to. If not him, then who? Shisui was dead. He was the only one who could stop the coup.
So, he agreed.
But with one condition.
"Spare my siblings," he said, voice hollow. "As long as he is safe, I will do everything you ask."
Danzo nodded without hesitation. "Agreed."
One Uchiha brat didn't matter in the grand scale. He could take him out anytime, Danzo was assured of it. However, that had to wait. Firstly, he had to take care of the Uchiha clan.
And just like that, the fate of the Uchiha clan was sealed.
Later, Itachi stood alone in the forest, the moonlight casting a cold glow on his face. His decision had been made. The Uchiha clan would be no more. He would carry the burden. He would become the villain.
But before that… he needed help.
Itachi remembered Shisui's last message. In it, Shisui had mentioned a masked man. The only masked man Itachi knew was the one who called himself Madara Uchiha.
Itachi had no proof. But everything pointed toward this man being involved in Shisui's death. His strange space-time jutsu, his deep knowledge of the Uchiha clan, and more importantly, knowledge of when Danzo would confront Shisui.
Unless Danzo himself sent the masked man after Shisui who later betrayed him or something along those lines. No one should know about this sudden attack from Danzo otherwise. Unless someone who could linger around the village, get in and get out of the village barriers without being detected.
Someone with space-time jutsu.
Itachi wanted revenge. But not yet.
He wasn't ready to face this man. The masked man's abilities were tricky, slippery. If Itachi attacked without understanding that power, he would lose. So for now, he had to play it smart. He had to wait, learn, and prepare.
So, swallowing his pride, Itachi went to meet the masked man.
They stood under the stars, eye to eye. The man's face was hidden behind a swirling orange mask, only a single Sharingan visible through the hole. He gave off no emotion. No anger. No joy. Just calm, cold calculation.
"I need your help," Itachi said plainly.
"To kill your clan?" the masked man asked, already knowing the answer.
Itachi nodded. "Yes." Now getting more assured that this man was behind everything.
The masked man was quiet for a moment. Then, with a chuckle, he agreed. "Very well. I'll help you. But in return, I have a request."
Itachi narrowed his eyes. "What is it?"
"Join me. Come with me and become part of Akatsuki."
Itachi didn't respond right away. He had far too little information about this organisation to assist it. However, if this man was behind that organization, then he had to be dangerous. Dangerous people attract dangerous people, and together they have dangerous goals. Itachi didn't know the full truth about them. Not yet. But now, this was his chance.
"Fine," he said. "I'll join."
But in his heart, Itachi had another reason. He needed to learn everything he could about Akatsuki. Their strength. Their purpose. And more importantly, the masked man who claimed to be Madara Uchiha.
Now everything was ready.
The night of the Uchiha Clan's extermination had come.
It was quiet. Too quiet. The Uchiha district sat peacefully under the night sky, unaware of the storm that was about to fall upon them.
Itachi moved like a shadow, silent and deadly. And beside him, the masked man tore through the clan with monstrous force. No one could stop them. No one expected this. Itachi, their own, killing them with no hesitation.
Blood flowed through the streets. Screams echoed for only moments before silence returned.
He had no joy in doing this. His heart ached. Every life he took carved a deeper wound inside him. But he reminded himself again and again—this was for peace. For the village.
He had to become the villain. He had to wear the mask of a traitor, so the rest of the world could live without war.
Just as promised, the masked man also ended up attacking the Uchiha clan. He directly targeted the Police Division.
Harvesting their lives while none could even touch him, literally...
There was no stopping him. Until he heard someone behind him. He was expecting another Uchiha charging at him. However, turning, he only saw a small figure, masked just like him but in his eyes were the exact eyes like him...
"Obito Uchiha..." said the masked man, and Obito, who was behind the mask all this time pretending to be Madara, had his eyes widen significantly.
"Give me your Sharingan..."
