Naruto : Reborn As Sukuna Haruno

Chapter 18: Chapter 18 : Fight Itachi

Sukuna stood in the middle of the battlefield, breathing lightly. Blood and bodies were scattered around. The forest was silent again.

Once Kakashi was under his control, the tables were turned easily enough. Kakashi himself held back half of the Root members, leaving the rest for slaughter to Sukuna.

Kakashi, still under Sukuna's Kotoamatsukami, stood calmly, awaiting his next order.

Sukuna walked over, a grin on his face. "Famous for a reason, you did well," he muttered. "Would love to have you work under me full time but no can't do. Sigh, it was nice as long as it lasted though..."

With a swift motion, Sukuna knocked Kakashi out cold. The silver-haired shinobi crumpled to the ground without a sound.

Sukuna knelt beside him and once he removed Kakashi's mask, he saw the real prize—the Mangekyo Sharingan.

He had taken Obito's and now, with Kakashi's eye, made it a pair.

'Obito was a fool to let Kakashi hang onto this eye. It ultimately cost him his plan.' Sukuna sneered. While he understood the term 'for the plot,' however he still thought that it was a stupid idea.

He wasn't gonna be the same. Arguably, the only thing capable of touching Kamui was Kamui and with both eyes under him, if it was him, he would never have let this eye stay with Kakashi.

There are enough Sharingan in the world, just exchange it for a good enough Three-Tomoe Sharingan.

Kakashi doesn't even use his Mangekyo abilities, so what good this eye was for him?

Sukuna's plan had always been to swap a normal Sharingan into Kakashi's body… he just didn't expect Kakashi to walk right into his hands. Obito carried one Mangekyo Sharingan and another normal three-tomoe Sharingan.

With careful hands, Sukuna began the surgery. It wasn't pretty, and it wasn't gentle, but it was effective. He took out Kakashi's Mangekyo Sharingan, the one gifted to him by Obito long ago, and replaced it with the normal three-tomoe Sharingan. With a healthy dose of his recently figured out Reverse Curse Technique all thanks to the insight he'd gotten, he was able to execute this entire mission.

Once done, Sukuna burned away the dead bodies while safely putting Kakashi on the side. He didn't wish to kill Kakashi, and the man not gonna remember anything once he wakes up so that was fine.

The moment Sukuna had used Kotoamatsukami, he made Kakashi believe he was ordered to kill the Root shinobi during a covert mission. After that, he would pass out and forget everything.

'Koto is really cool. Shame Shisui didn't had the balls to use it when he could.'

When Kakashi wakes up, he won't remember the fight. He won't even realize his Sharingan had changed. To him, it will be blank memories or very well be a dream of him fighting. Whom... he can't say, it was a hazy dream.

Sukuna stood up, wiping the blood off his hands.

And now with everything settled, it was time to get out of there. With a flicker, his body disappeared, rushing out of the Uchiha compound with his top speed.

However, just as Sukuna was stepping out of the Uchiha territory, the shadows of the massacre still fresh behind him, he felt a chill crawl up his spine.

Someone was watching him.

He turned his head slightly, and there he stood—Itachi Uchiha. Silent. Still. Like a statue of death.

'What the hell he's doing here...' Sukuna pursed his lips. He felt Itachi was pretty far away from him, why he came towards him all of the sudden?

His sword was still dripping with the blood of his clan, his face hollow and emotionless. His eyes looked dead… until they met Sukuna's.

In that moment, Itachi's Sharingan spun sharply. He scanned Sukuna's chakra, his stance, his mask.

This wasn't a Root shinobi. This wasn't ANBU. This wasn't even the masked man who claimed to be Madara.

This… was a child. However, he was a child who was wearing a mask. Just like Shisui wrote in the message.

Sukuna stood barely taller than Sasuke. That alone made Itachi pause. But it was what he saw next that truly stopped his heart.

Shisui's Mangekyō Sharingan.

Itachi would recognise that pattern anywhere...

Itachi's eyes went wide.

'He's the one...' Itachi's mind roared to him...

Itachi's emotions, which he had buried deep to carry out the mission, now exploded like a volcano.

Rage.

Guilt.

Grief.

He clenched his fists. "You..." he muttered under his breath.

Sukuna took a small step back. His expression was unreadable behind the mask, but his body tensed. He could feel it—Itachi's negative emotions were exploding out.

"You're the one," Itachi said, his voice cold, shaking with fury. "You stole Shisui's eye. You killed him."

'Just my luck...' Sukuna cursed under his breath.

Itachi's Mangekyō flared. "I don't know who you are... but I'm not letting you leave."

With that said, Itachi made the first move. His Sharingan spun rapidly and cast a powerful Genjutsu—but nothing happened.

Sukuna stood still, completely unaffected, even though he didn't realise he was being attacked by a Genjutsu in the first place. It just didn't work on him. Itachi, however, had no idea his Genjutsu failed. He might have if he wasn't acting like Sasuke, revenge clouding his mind.

With blood still dripping from his blade, Itachi dashed at Sukuna at full speed, emotion clouding his judgment. He moved like a blur, almost invisible to normal eyes. But Sukuna's Sharingan tracked him easily.

Seeing Itachi charge in, Sukuna reacted fast. He flicked his fingers and unleashed a powerful Dismantle slash. It tore through the air like a glowing blue blade.

Itachi's Sharingan barely caught the incoming attack in time. Fueled by rage, he had attacked recklessly, thinking Sukuna would be easy prey and that his Genjutsu actually worked. Now, reality hit him hard. He twisted his body left to dodge, saving his head to split into two, but he wasn't fast enough.

The blade missed his head and chest—but sliced clean through his right arm.

His entire right arm dropped to the ground.

'Got him...' Sukuna was elated seeing his attack connect. He was under quite a bit of pressure, seeing how dangerously Itachi was coming at him.

Pain shot through his body like lightning, but Itachi didn't scream. The pain snapped him out of his blind rage. He gritted his teeth and took a step back, now breathing heavily.

With only one hand left, he couldn't form hand signs. He was at a huge disadvantage. But he wasn't done yet.

Without wasting a second, he activated his Mangekyō Sharingan and used Tsukuyomi.

Time seemed to stop—at least to him.

But once again… nothing happened.

Sukuna blinked, confused. He felt something, like a pull but that's it. The Genjutsu simply didn't affect him. Itachi's eyes widened in shock.

"This… is impossible," Itachi whispered. Outside Shisui's Kotoamatsukami, Tsukuyomi was the strongest Genjutsu out there.

Before he could gather his thoughts, another Dismantle came flying at him—just as fast as before. With only one hand, his balance was off. He couldn't dodge in time.

He had no choice.

A red, fiery chakra figure burst out of Itachi's body, forming armour around him like a giant warrior. The blade missed him and struck the armor, but it didn't break. Only leaving a deep gash on the armor.

"Tsk... this gonna be trouble." Sukuna clicked his tongue.

Even with his binding vow boosting his cursed energy to 150%, he couldn't cut through Susanoo.

Then, it hit him.

That boost—it was also the reason he was caught. His cursed energy must have been flaring like a beacon. Just like a Tailed Beast.

He cursed himself silently. "Rookie mistake," he muttered. He should've released the binding vow as soon as he got what he came for.

'Damn it... damn it.'

Now, it was too late.

Itachi didn't wait. He rushed forward with his Susanoo, the massive chakra being swinging its giant arms like hammers.

Sukuna was fast, though. He dodged one swing after another. His speed allowed him to keep up, but he was clearly being led. Itachi was herding him with every strike.

Then came the trap.

A swing cornered Sukuna, and his only way out was to leap high into the air.

But the moment Sukuna jumped, Itachi's Mangekyō spun once again.

"Amaterasu."

Black flames appeared from nowhere and latched onto Sukuna mid-air. Not even his Sharingan warned him of the incoming attack. He knew Itachi still had this card but even after knowing he had no way to counter it. He tried to run but Itachi wouldn't let him...

Sukuna let out a painful groan as the burning pain spread across his body. The black flames clung to him, impossible to remove.

His clothes burned. His skin blistered. The cursed energy inside him twisted in agony.

The pain made him furious. That fury which only comes from being humiliated in a fight.

With a growl, he rushed toward Itachi at full speed, ignoring the fire for now. The move caught Itachi off guard—he hadn't expected such a reckless charge, especially from someone on fire.

Itachi, already exhausted from overusing his Mangekyō, couldn't react fast enough.

Sukuna appeared right in front of the Susanoo's chest and threw his strongest punch.

And that's when it happened.

Black lightning exploded from his fist—a Black Flash.

It cracked through the Susanoo's chest, shaking the giant armor and throwing Itachi back several steps. Itachi coughed blood, surprised and rattled.

'He broke Susanoo...' Itachi was speechless and even more determined to kill this person now. He was a threat to the village.

Sukuna stood there, fire still burning on him—but something had changed.

He had entered the zone.

His cursed energy flowed perfectly. His body moved without thought. For that one moment, the pain disappeared—and all that remained was euphoria.

He felt alive.

Sorcerers who had experienced Black Flash and those who haven't—the difference between their understanding of curse energy is like heaven and earth. Sukuna was feeling like he finally found the essence of curse energy right now.

But the fight wasn't over.

Itachi gathered his remaining strength and swung Susanoo's massive arm again. This time, it wasn't to lead Sukuna—it was to crush him.

Before Sukuna could dodge, the huge red hand slammed into him from above, smashing him straight into the ground.

Dust exploded everywhere.

Itachi observed the body of his enemy and finally let out a sigh. He wasn't expecting his fight to be this hard on him. He lost his hand, almost got killed and half of it was because of his own fault. He let his emotions dictate him.

Itachi planned to take back Shisui's eyes from the boy. That was the only way to make peace with Shisui's soul.

But to his surprise, in front of his eyes, the bloodied and broken body of his enemy disappeared.

The alarm rang inside Itachi's mind. He knew what this was.

"Izanagi..."

Itachi had no idea how this man knew about Izanagi but this was bad. This explained that either this person knows about his clan's secrets or even worse, was from his clan.

Itachi kept on looking around, waiting for the man to show up. Few minutes passed and finally he found the figure he was looking for.

Atop of the electric pole, he saw the small figure again. Looking down on him. Itachi didn't waste time. He immediately activated his Susanoo again. And slashed the masked man with its ethereal sword.

It was a direct hit. It tore through the figure...

However, the man remained standing on top of the wall...

Itachi's eyes shrank... because he saw through the man's mask and once again saw two Mangekyo.

Izanagi didn't make him lost his eye?

'No...'

But that wasn't the case, when Itachi noticed the details of the Mangekyo. The patterns of both Mangekyo were different.

'He changed his eye.' Itachi was baffled.

Sukuna on the other hand was looking down on Itachi with anger. He almost died there.

If he had not used a binding vow on Shisui's Mangekyo to activate Izanagi upon his death, he wouldn't have survived back then.

He lost one of Shisui's Mangekyo in this fight. His anger was getting out of control. However, he had to control his emotions. Emotions getting out of control was the biggest bane of a Jujutsu Sorcerer.

That means that his control would be slipping.

Sukuna after coming back, didn't immediately come out but took his time and changed his blind eye for Obito's Mangekyo.

'Even with Kamui I can't beat him now. I need to first train with the ability. I don't have any way to get past Susanoo for now. Damn it, if only I had more time to refine my technique...' He was unwilling to run away but there was no other option.

"Next time I'll kill you... Itachi Uchiha." Sukuna left that remark and then opened his Kamui, and was gone in the Kamui portal.

Itachi left behind was both baffled and frustrated.

He failed to avenge Shisui.
