Naruto: Reborn as Zoro

Zoro plans to leave Konoha a few days after the attack. He already has no business here because Hiyori has fully recovered too. So he wants to take her traveling to other places and resume his bounty hunting job.

But before he can leave, Tsunade tells him that Minato calls him to the Hokage office. He wants to refuse because he has a feeling that it must be about something troublesome. But Tsunade doesn't wait for his answer and just drags him there.

In the office, Minato and his advisors are busy handling a lot of documents. There are many things that need to be taken care of after the attack, so they have a lot of work to do and that's why Minato can only call Zoro here instead of meeting him outside.

"Ah, Zoro, you're here. I'm sorry that I'm calling you so suddenly."

"I heard you want to commission a job for me."

"Yes, it's an important job. But it's also dangerous, so you are free to refuse if you want." Minato doesn't seem to have much hope that Zoro will accept.

"Well, that depends on the risk and reward. Just so you know, my service isn't cheap like your ninjas, and don't expect me to lower my fee just because your village is in crisis."

"I know, don't worry about it."

"So, what's the job?"

Minato gets serious immediately and everyone else stops their work to focus on this topic.

"Otogakure, do you have the strength to attack it?" Minato's question surprises Zoro a bit.

"Do you want revenge?"

"No, it's not about revenge. After the attack, we found out that some people are missing, mostly young people including children and all of them are orphans. We investigated it and suspected that they were kidnapped by Otogakure. It seemed to be planned too considering all the victims are orphans and all clans lost at least a child. Knowing Orochimaru, he must have a plan to use them as research subjects. That's why we are very worried."

"Then why don't you just send your men there quickly?"

"That is hard to do because many of us are still injured. Sending so many personnel across the borders can also incite another war. But the main problem is we can't just send anyone. As you know, our opponents aren't just Orochimaru and Otogakure. Akatsuki, the group that Orochimaru joins, I heard it's full of S-Rank missing nins. They sent 3 members to assist Orochimaru and while those 3 didn't fight seriously, I could sense that they were skillful. If we just send people without preparations, we'll only lose more."

"So you send me despite knowing how dangerous it will be?"

"Well, that's because we heard that you've fought Akatsuki many times and even killed some of their members. So we thought that you know them more than us. Of course, we won't just send you alone if you accept. Jiraiya-sensei will also go with you. Then if the situation is too difficult for both of you, I will go there with some more people too."

"You can just send someone and teleport there with other people, right?" Zoro tilts his head.

"And leave Konoha defenseless? We can't do that because now some forces are eyeing us, thinking that we are weakened by the attack and planning to hit us anytime. So we can't just leave. Though I already prepare a team to help you once you get there. But only you and Jiraiya-sensei can go there first and preferably even infiltrate them by yourselves. Saving the kidnapped children is the priority, so we can't send too many people because we need to sneak in. Once you find them, I will come and take them back here. We might not need to attack them if it's too dangerous."

"Really? Infiltration? You want me to infiltrate a hidden village? Me? Bruh, I would expose myself in seconds."

"That's why Jiraiya-sensei will go with you." Minato smiles warmly, but it only makes Zoro frown.

"So you want me to act as bait? A distraction?"

"Basically, yes. I don't know anyone else who can do that without losing a limb or two, or even losing their lives. There's no way someone who attacked Sunagakure alone would get defeated by a smaller village like Otogakure, right?"

"Yeah, yeah, unless that Otogakure is backed by a bunch of S-Rank missing nins."

"So you won't take the job?" Minato looks disappointed.

"You haven't told me the reward."

"..... Ah, right. 10 million ryo."

Zoro is surprised by the amount of reward because it's a big prize, equal to hunting 3 or 4 S-Rank nins.

"What if I kill Orochimaru? Or other people with bounties?"

"You will get separate rewards for those because that's not included in the job. But you can only exchange the bounties of the criminals that we issued in Konoha."

"I know. Just want to confirm. Hmm, the reward is good, so I think I'll take the job."

"Great, we will contact Jiraiya-sensei and you can make your preparations. This is an urgent matter, so we need to move fast."

"Alright. By the way, I've wanted to ask this for a while now, but what's wrong with him? He hurt his eyes or what?" Zoro points at Shisui who silently stands behind Minato with his eyes covered in bandages.

Minato and the others seem uneasy to answer it, so Shisui answers it himself. "I lost my visions."

Zoro has expected it to be the case. He already guessed that Shisui must've overused his Mangekyo Sharingan and become blind. But he acts as if he doesn't know because it would be strange for someone like him to even know about Mangekyo.

"An Uchiha can lose their vision? Really? Losing their prided sharingan ability?" Well, he just needs to act as if he doesn't know. It doesn't mean he can't act to annoy them though.

"..... It's possible if we overuse it. I used my sharingan too much, overstepping my limits too many times even though it has a bad effect on my eyes."

"Overusing your eyes? Did you use them to peek at women too many times? Sigh, young people nowadays."

Zoro shakes his head while everyone else is just speechless at him. It's not like he is an old person, after all, so he isn't in the position to say it.

"Hey kid, it reminds me that we still have that thing in our possession." Torao suddenly comes out of Zoro's shadow in a normal cat size.

"What thing?" Zoro doesn't know what Torao means. So Torao just takes out a scroll from his subspace storage and summons its content.

What comes out of the scroll is a tube filled with clear liquid and an eyeball. The eyeball has a red pupil with 3 black tomoe marks. It's a sharingan.

"Ah! Right, the sharingan that we took from Danzo's face." Zoro finally remembers.

"What?!" Everyone is obviously surprised because they never know that Danzo has a sharingan.

So Zoro explains that he took the sharingan from Danzo's right eye that was covered by bandages to hide it in his fight against Danzo that eventually killed the old guy years ago.

Zoro kept the sharingan in Torao's subspace storage. He intended to give it back to Konoha after a while so he even put it in a medical tube to preserve it. But he forgot about it because he didn't return to Konoha for quite a long time after killing Danzo.

"I see. So he even stole a sharingan for his own usage." Minato is still annoyed with Danzo even though it has been years since the guy died.

"Must be for the research he did with Orochimaru. But whose eye was this?" Tsunade looks at the sharingan while frowning.

"It doesn't matter. We need to bury it to respect the owner. At least we can give their eye a proper burial." Fugaku is angry that his clansmen's eye was misused, but there's nothing they can do now.

"You know, actually, why don't you just transplant this eye to Shisui? Doesn't mean to be disrespectful, but instead of just letting it rot, isn't it better to make it useful for the living? It's not like the real owner can use it anymore anyway." Zoro shrugs his shoulders while giving his opinion.

Everyone is silent again, until Shisui tries to say something. "I don't think that's a good thing to do."

"No, I think that's a good idea." Fugaku thinks otherwise.

"Eh? But clan leader-" Shisui is surprised by Fugaku.

"But what? As Zoro says, it's better to make it useful for the living. You lost your vision because of our clan, so the clan should try to help you. I never even thought of transplanting other people's eyes for you, and I don't think it's a bad idea." The others nod at Fugaku's words.

"Huh? You never thought of it even though you see Kakashi every day? Are you all stupid?" Obviously, they can't just take someone's eyes for Shisui. But what Zoro says makes them look stupid.
