Naruto: Reborn With An AI Chip

Chapter 25: Unexpected Situation

"All of you, get back! I will take care of him!" Shouted a furious-looking Mist-nin.

Renjiro's ruthless and unstoppable sneak attacks had finally stirred a response from the Mist shinobi.

The leader of the Mist-nin unit that surrounded Renjiro's team was an elite Chūnin. Seeing that Renjiro had killed two of his team members, he decided to take matters into his own hands—personally.

"Now, let's see if you can keep up with my speed..." Renjiro's heart was filled with confidence after killing two Mist shinobi.

"You little bastard, don't even think about escaping!" The Mist-nin squad captain sneered and instantly started running toward Renjiro.

He had seen Renjiro's body posture, which clearly indicated he was about to move away—just like the previous two times after he had killed two of the captain's subordinates.

And just as Renjiro was prepared to slip away using Soru, a sudden, fierce pain shot through both his legs.

"Damn it! What is going on?!" The sharp pain in his legs almost made him fall to the ground.

"What's going on? Arkain, talk to me!" Renjiro shouted in panic.

[Beep! While prior optimization minimized Soru's dependence on raw physical strength, the technique remains fundamentally a high-speed movement skill that relies on explosive physical power. As such, its use heavily consumes stamina and exerts significant pressure on the lower limbs. Based on your current physical condition, the optimal usage interval is once per hour. You've already exceeded the safe limit with two consecutive activations.]

"Are you kidding me right now?! Didn't you say the new Soru relies more on chakra than physical strength?!" Renjiro's eyes widened in disbelief. Then he exploded inwardly, clenching his fists: "You absolute piece of junk! How could you forget to mention something that important?!"

If he could, Renjiro would have throttled the AI chip on the spot.

Why hadn't it warned him about this limitation earlier? If he'd known Soru couldn't be used twice consecutively, he never would've dashed into the enemy team so recklessly to stir chaos.

But unfortunately, it was too late. All Renjiro could think was—if only he could rewind time, undo his reckless charge, and erase the smug look he wore after killing those two Mist-nin.

"Damn you, Arkain! I had such high hopes for you… I thought we'd change fate together—but now…" Renjiro cursed bitterly in his heart, his eyes locked on the enemy squad captain charging straight toward him.

Fortunately, the second Mist-nin he had taken out was positioned a bit farther from the others—which was exactly why Renjiro had chosen him as a target. That small distance gave him just enough breathing room to curse Arkain before the real threat arrived.

Surrounded by a ring of hostile Mist shinobi, all of them glaring at him with murderous intent, Renjiro's heart turned cold. In that moment, he felt it—his chances of survival were next to none.

It wasn't just that he was surrounded by Mist-nin—Renjiro had brought this on himself. His recklessness had separated him from his team, and now, even if Zeri and the others wanted to help, they were too far away to reach him in time.

His Observation Haki Mode was still active, slowing everything around him. That gave Renjiro just enough time—not only to curse Arkain under his breath, but also to desperately search for a way to survive the deadly situation he'd thrown himself into.

"Don't let him out of your sight—attack!" The enemy squad captain shouted as he closed in on Renjiro.

Though he was confident in his own strength, the captain was cautious. Renjiro's strange and lightning-fast movement technique had already taken down two of his men, and he wasn't about to let it happen again.

While shouting orders to engage, he discreetly gave a hand signal—coordinating an attack from both the left and right sides, while he advanced from the front. The goal was simple: cut off all of Renjiro's escape routes.

As for retreating backward? The captain wasn't concerned. That direction led straight into a clash between several Mist Special Jonin and Konoha's own elites. Charging into that chaos would be suicide—even more dangerous than facing him alone.

"Attack!"

Whoosh!

At their captain's command, a barrage of weapons flew toward Renjiro from both sides—dozens of projectiles cutting through the air: kunai, shuriken, wire traps, and more. Every deadly tool in the ninja arsenal was unleashed at once, converging on him like a storm of steel.

"Holy damn—this is overkill!" Renjiro blanched, his eyes wide with panic. The sheer hatred behind the incoming barrage made it feel like they didn't just want to kill him—they wanted to erase him from existence.

"Arkain! Think of something—fast!" he shouted inwardly, though at this point, it sounded more like a desperate plea than a command.

[Beep! Mission Established! Looking for solution... Simulation in progress… Simulation completed!]

[Beep! Conclusion: If host wants to survive, you must forcibly use Soru one more time to escape.]

"With my current condition, using Soru again is practically suicide…" Renjiro nearly burst into tears.

[Beep! Reassessing… Scan completed... Simulation completed.] Arkain's voice once again rang in his head.

"Another simulation?!" Renjiro was stunned.

[Conclusion: Escape via Soru is feasible. However, predicted consequences include multiple muscle strains and soft tissue damage in both legs.]

"Damn it… fine! Better injured than dead!"

With the Mist-nin barely a meter away, Renjiro clenched his jaw, bracing himself. The decision was made—there was no time left for hesitation.

Soru!

Renjiro gritted his teeth, biting down against the searing pain flooding from his legs. With sheer willpower, he forced himself to stamp the ground at extreme speed.

Tap! Tap!

Whoosh!

In the next instant, his body blurred—just barely slipping through the storm of incoming weapons. And in the very next heartbeat, he reappeared beside his teammates, gasping—but alive.

Dang!

His body gave out the moment he landed. He collapsed into a sitting position.

"Ahh…" Renjiro gasped. His breathing was ragged. Sweat poured down his face, and his entire body was trembling—most of all his legs, which throbbed with intense, relentless pain and refused to move.

"Renjiro?!"

"Are you alright?!"

"What happened to you?!"

Maemon, Meri, and Zeri instantly rushed to his side, visibly shaken by his condition. Renjiro looked extremely pale, and his legs were visibly quivering.

Renjiro gave them a wry smile and said in a trembling voice: "I'm—not hurt. Just… o-overestimated my abilities, that's all."

---

Whoosh!

"Damn it! He ran away again!" the Chūnin captain roared in frustration. Just a moment ago, Renjiro had been right in front of him—his hand mere inches from grabbing him—only for Renjiro to vanish like a ghost.

"Captain! He's over there!" One of the Mist-nin suddenly shouted, pointing urgently toward where Renjiro had reappeared beside his team.

"I think there's something wrong with that little bastard! Let's get him!" The captain said coldly, charging toward Team Zeri.

---

"It's a long story," Renjiro sighed, his voice tinged with bitterness: "All I can say is… my legs can barely move."

"Let's get moving." Zeri said in a deep, steady voice, his eyes fixed on Renjiro: "We're linking up with Tachibana's team. They have a medical-nin—he might be able to help you."

"Yes, Zeri-sensei!" The team responded in unison.

They rallied quickly, falling into formation without hesitation. Renjiro felt a surge of emotion—Zeri hadn't questioned him, hadn't scolded him in the moment. He'd seen Renjiro's condition and prioritized his injuries without delay.

But Renjiro knew that didn't mean the matter was over. His reckless actions had nearly gotten him killed—and worse, they had put his teammates at risk. Sooner or later, Zeri would ask him about it. And when he did, Renjiro knew he'd deserve every word.

Renjiro couldn't walk, so Maemon quickly crouched and hoisted him onto his back. Renjiro didn't refuse—if they slowed down because of him, the Mist squad would catch up. He couldn't afford to be a burden.

He might not be able to fight, but he could still support them in other ways.

With both Observation Haki and Mind Net active, Renjiro entered full support mode. He didn't give orders—but he monitored the battlefield and warned the team of hidden dangers, guiding their movements with quiet precision.

Eventually, they linked up with Tachibana's team.

Their medic, a senior two years above them named Eiko Shirahime, immediately rushed to Renjiro's side. Without a word, she knelt beside him and placed her glowing hands on his legs, medical chakra flowing gently into the damaged tissue.

Then, she frowned.

"What is it, senpai?" Seri asked, with concern tightening her voice.

Eiko glanced at Renjiro, then spoke calmly:

"Relax. Your teammate will be fine. He's just pulled too many muscles at once—classic overstrain. There's a lot of soft tissue damage, though. It'll take time and careful treatment."

"Phew…" Renjiro exhaled in relief: "I'll be in your care, Eiko-senpai." He said gratefully, offering a weak but sincere smile.

Despite being weakened and unable to move, Renjiro remained focused—coordinating both squads with sharp precision. The battle around them was escalating by the minute, but his mind remained clear.

His leadership during the bridge demolition mission had already drawn attention, even among those who hadn't fought beside him that day. And now, after briefly observing how effortlessly Renjiro managed the flow of combat, even Captain Tachibana—a seasoned captain—chose to follow his guidance without hesitation.

Two squads merged into one—finally giving them a moment to breathe.

But the larger the group, the more enemies they attracted. More and more Mist shinobi began attacking them. Several members were wounded, though thankfully none fatally.

Soon, they encountered another squad—crippled and bloodied, with only one survivor still standing over the bodies of his fallen comrades, ready to fight to the death.

Renjiro's team couldn't abandon him. They pulled the shinobi to safety, adding yet another injured warrior to their growing formation.

Before they knew it, their group had swelled again—just like last time. They were becoming a rally point for the scattered survivors of this chaotic battlefield.

Renjiro, still in control, was now directing a force of nearly fifty shinobi.

The weight of command pressed down harder than ever. But thanks to Arkain's sensory enhancements—Mind Net, Observation Haki Mode, and vision-mode overlays—he could still hold everything together.
