Chapter 56: Rebuilding the Hidden Sand Village [56]
[Constellation Legend Simulator (Two-Star Version, Origin: Doraemon): Press the switch to summon a constellation-themed character and view detailed information about that constellation.]
Rasa had pulled that thing in a two-star gacha not long ago.
It was meant to project constellation characters to help kids learn about the stars in a fun and interactive way. Supposedly great for sparking curiosity.
Of course… it could also briefly summon the "representative figures" of constellations. But the user had zero control over them—practically a novelty feature.
While he'd been teaching Temari about the constellations earlier, he'd absentmindedly tested the moon-related character… and the moment he saw those familiar rabbit ears, he'd immediately switched away.
He figured it was probably just some projection based on the "Goddess of the Rabbit Moon" legend from the ninja world—likely tied to long-buried history and ancient clan lore. A random mishmash of myth and tragedy. Nothing more.
He hadn't cared much at the time.
After all, that goddess was watching from the heavens. He was just a dad watching his kids. Let the big shots save the world—he was busy changing diapers.
Kaguya Ōtsutsuki? That was Hagoromo's problem. Her chakra-reincarnated grandkids could handle it. No way would some poor village Kazekage like him be involved in that mess.
Or so he thought.
Rasa squinted at Temari's stunned little face—wide-eyed and frozen as she stared at the woman who had suddenly appeared before them.
He gently handed her over to Kabuto, who was already clutching his kunai, visibly on edge.
"Take her home. I've got something to handle."
"...Kazekage-sama?"
Kabuto hesitated. Rasa's sudden change in demeanor made it clear that something was very wrong. That woman had just appeared out of thin air. No way that was normal.
But before he could say more—
"Have I… returned?" the woman asked coolly, her voice emotionless, eyes sharp as they fell on them. "Zetsu…? Are you…?"
She didn't finish.
Right before Rasa and Kabuto's eyes, she vanished again.
"…What?"
Kabuto blinked. What the hell just happened? His neck turned stiffly as he looked back at the Kazekage. "What was that? She disappeared again?!"
Had he imagined it? Or was his perception good enough to see through that woman's movements?
On edge now, Kabuto lifted his kunai again and scanned the shadows around them.
Then—right on cue—she appeared again.
Same spot.
Same exact spot.
Was this bait? A feint? Or was she just completely ignoring them?
Rasa tried to catch her off guard—hands already starting to form seals—
But she vanished once more.
Now Rasa was starting to piece it together. He looked down at the toy Temari was still gripping tightly.
That brat.
He reached for the Constellation Legend Simulator in her hands.
Kaguya Ōtsutsuki… her combat awareness might not be as strong as Sage of Six Paths Madara,, but she wasn't someone a mid-tier Kazekage could fight either.
No way.
Rasa made a decision then and there:
Once he got home, he was sealing this cursed toy immediately.
Black Zetsu's grand scheme? He could shove it. This was just plain terrifying.
But—just as he turned—
She reappeared. Again.
Rasa had no choice but to face her, wary now. But what he didn't notice was—
His daughter's eyes sparkled with excitement as she stared up at Kaguya with fascination.
"Have I…" Kaguya began again, then fell silent.
She didn't know what to say.
One moment she was gone, the next she was here.
Could someone please explain what the hell was going on?
"…Zetsu?"
Her gaze sharpened as she took in the scene—one man, three children.
"Hurry up and—"
Gone. Again.
Rasa stared blankly at the empty air where she'd just been.
Appeared. Vanished. Appeared. Vanished.
What was this, a stage performance?
If Black Zetsu saw this… if he found out I'm basically playing "peekaboo" with the Rabbit Goddess…
Oh hell.
If they did revive her someday, Sunagakure would probably be the first to get nuked just for this.
And then—
She appeared again.
This time, her expression changed.
Now she seemed aware something was wrong. She glanced around, narrowed her eyes.
This isn't how I was supposed to be resurrected.
The strength within her didn't feel right.
Her gaze dropped to the strange device in Temari's hands, and then to the little girl herself.
Is it her? Or that toy?
She reached forward, hand extended toward the toddler still fiddling with the simulator.
"Such insolent humans—"
"Bang!"
Rasa moved instantly, intercepting her hand with a flicker of chakra. His brow furrowed.
She's… not as strong as I expected.
And then he noticed—her forehead eye was closed.
Of course. The Ten Tails' power isn't with her.
And the moon was still up in the sky.
That meant this version of her—summoned by the low-tier simulator—wasn't the real deal.
Just a projection.
And in that moment, a dangerous thought crept into Rasa's mind:
I can win.
He relaxed slightly and prepared to launch a jutsu.
And then… she vanished again.
"…"
Rasa fell silent.
Even Kabuto lowered his kunai at this point. It was clear that the trouble wasn't her—it was the oversized fan-shaped toy in Temari's chubby hands.
Kabuto reached toward the simulator—
"Waaah!"
Temari burst into tears.
Kabuto froze. The baby in his other arm started crying too.
Rasa groaned.
Now Temari was clinging to the simulator with both arms, looking like she'd been wronged beyond reason.
This was going to be a disaster.
He rubbed his temples and considered yanking the toy away by force. Better deal with the tantrum afterward.
And then—
Kaguya reappeared. Again.
This time, she attacked immediately. No monologue, no preamble.
Rasa reflexively moved to block—but she vanished again.
He turned to look at Temari, still hiccupping and playing with her toy.
Two-year-olds… are terrifying.
For the first time, Rasa felt a flicker of sympathy for Kaguya.
After all… maybe she was just a lonely old woman, wronged by her children, misunderstood by history, and now trapped in a glitchy toy.
He sighed.
This was absurd.
He reached again for the simulator—
And then… once more…
She reappeared.
But this time, she didn't move.
She just stood there silently, face blank, no longer trying to act powerful.
Maybe she'd realized the truth:
She didn't have her full strength.
Her fate now rested in the hands of a toddler.
And the children she'd raised had long since turned against her—Hagoromo and Hamura, who sealed her away like some monster.
Now what?
Rasa looked at her for a long moment. She really did seem… lost.
He sighed again, then hesitated.
"…Maybe we should talk?"
Behind his back, he subtly motioned to Kabuto:
Take the kids and get out. Now.
