Naruto: Rebuilding the Hidden Sand Village

Chapter 61: Rebuilding the Hidden Sand Village [61]

Rasa realized he had made too many assumptions.

After the meal, Kaguya Ōtsutsuki went right back to doing whatever she wanted—sitting quietly on the tatami mat, composed, her expression distant as she watched them.

The meal had been prepared mostly by Kana, with Karura helping on the side. Though she was pregnant and technically shouldn't be around cooking fumes, pregnant women were never rational—she just kept insisting on doing something, so they let her help.

Kabuto had also come along. Once he heard that the legendary Kaguya Ōtsutsuki—who claimed to be the Ancestor of Chakra—was coming for dinner, he'd shown up early, eager to observe how this supposed origin of all chakra differed from regular shinobi.

And what did he find?

Aside from being quiet and somewhat aloof, she really didn't seem that different from any normal person. Kabuto was visibly disappointed.

But not for long. A moment later, his eyes lit up again—likely fantasizing about acquiring her cells for research or something equally creepy.

Kana had actually come to Rasa privately not long ago, expressing concern that Kabuto had become obsessed with human experimentation. She was worried he might fall into a dangerous path and do something that violated the ethical standards of the shinobi world.

And frankly… at his age, if he was still that interested in other people's bodies, it meant one of two things: he was going through puberty… or he was a pervert.

That kind of unstable mindset, lacking moral grounding and emotional control, could very easily spiral into something terrible—just like Sasori.

As a child, Sasori had been brilliant—far beyond his peers in talent and intellect. And look how he ended up: turning Rasa's sensei, the Third Kazekage, and even himself into puppets.

It wasn't that Rasa opposed scientific research on the human body—it just had to be done under strict ethical oversight. Preferably with a sanitized name like "clinical research" or "medical trials."

Otherwise, without the proper moral compass and mental discipline, it was too easy to create a monster who would kill their own parents and become some sort of twisted hentai warlord.

So yeah, Kabuto was absolutely not ready for that kind of work.

Rasa, as the Fourth Kazekage, wasn't some lunatic who'd sacrifice everything just to raise a genius.

How many tragedies in the shinobi world had come from people who were poorly educated, mentally fragile, or lacked moral boundaries—and then, when faced with a little hardship, completely lost control?

Far too many.

He wasn't about to let another sad story play out on his watch.

Better that everyone focused on learning, working hard, and helping build a shinobi village with Sunagakure's own unique culture and values.

Why did things always have to go to extremes?

That's why Rasa had recently been trying to create a warm, nurturing home environment for Kabuto—let him feel human kindness. Hopefully, that would prevent him from deciding the world was boring and trying to destroy it after he learned how to dissect a spleen.

But now wasn't the time to think about all that.

Rasa turned his gaze back to Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, who was now absentmindedly playing with Temari, her expression as blank as ever.

She probably already knew Temari was her summoner—maybe that's why they were getting along so well lately.

Still… he was Temari's father. Did that not count for anything? Shouldn't he get some affection too?

She really had no concept of respect!

With a sigh, Rasa resigned himself. Knowing this cold and reserved goddess-type, she definitely wasn't going to speak first. So, he decided to break the silence.

Taking a sip of hot tea, he looked directly at Kaguya and spoke in a deliberately tempting tone:

"How about this? As the Fourth Kazekage, I officially offer you a position as Sunagakure's Water Supply Officer. It's a real job—steady work, steady pay. With a salary, you can buy whatever you want… or even hire a shinobi to help find your son."

Kaguya, without looking up, continued to play with Temari and said flatly, "This entire world belongs to me. Anything I desire must be offered up to me willingly."

"..."

So that was a no, huh?

Rasa was speechless. You ate my food, and your summoner is my daughter!

As he stared in dismay at Kaguya, about to respond—

"Oh, sweetheart~ I heard all about your situation," Karura interjected, waddling over with her pregnant belly. She picked Temari up and looked at Kaguya with warm sympathy. "Your son abandoned you, tried to imprison you—and you're still being stubborn? Wouldn't it be better to earn your own money, do something useful for yourself? The water-supplying job isn't hard at all. Sunagakure desperately needs water. Since Rasa took you in, why not use your abilities to help everyone see your worth—to truly accept you into the village?"

"..."

Rasa stared blankly at Karura, wondering why she was suddenly getting involved.

When she finished her speech, he coughed awkwardly and subtly redirected her gaze—trying to shut her up without outright telling her.

The truth was, the Ōtsutsuki clan was way too complicated to explain. He hadn't told Karura or Kana the full story. Instead, he'd said Kaguya was a "sealed queen," betrayed and imprisoned by her own son. Temari had accidentally broken the seal, so the village had taken her in. The seal wasn't completely broken, though—Kaguya could only move about freely at night.

That's why Karura and Kana were both sympathetic toward her.

A mother, sealed and abandoned by her own child… who wouldn't feel pity?

Knna, being a sealing specialist, didn't recognize the seal used on Kaguya either—but the shinobi world was huge, and strange kekkei genkai and jutsu were everywhere. Not every seal would be known to the Uzumaki clan.

Still, she did promise to break the seal someday and free Kaguya—the poor, innocent "mother" in front of her... who was actually her many-times-removed ancestor.

But the moment Kanna laid eyes on the [Constellation Legend Simulator], the artifact housing the seal, she gave up on cracking it. Even with her talent, it was way beyond her level. She was far more skilled in medical ninjutsu anyway.

Ignoring Kabuto's increasingly suspicious stare, Rasa refocused on Kaguya, who still hadn't reacted to Karura's heartfelt plea.

"You really won't work?" he said seriously. "You can't rely on others forever. Your son isn't here. Times have changed. This isn't your kingdom anymore. No one's going to hand you what you want for free. If you want something, you'll have to—"

"I don't know Water Release."

"…Oh, so you don't kno—wait, what did you just say?"

Rasa blinked in confusion, staring at Kaguya's emotionless face.

"You mean… you actually don't know how to use Water Release?"

He trailed off.

The Ancestor of chakra... an Ōtsutsuki… Right, of course. The Ōtsutsuki clan never learned traditional elemental ninjutsu. They didn't even use hand signs—they just made things happen.

Their techniques weren't based on standard shinobi systems. And this version of Kaguya—probably just a two-star summon, not the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki—didn't even have the Rinnegan. That meant she likely couldn't use complex dimensional powers either.

Realizing this, Rasa sighed again.

Kaguya had turned away, clearly uninterested, retreating back into her silence.

He forced a smile—like he was luring a child with candy.

"You could've just said so! If you don't know, you can learn. I'll assign you a personal tutor—one of our top instructors here in Sunagakure. They'll teach you everything from the ground up. Step-by-step. Easy, hands-on, all-inclusive training."

He turned to Kana and gave her a meaningful look.

She's your ancestor from who knows how many generations back — it's only fitting that you be the one to teach her.

Kana didn't object. She smiled and nodded.

When it came to teaching Water Release, she was more than confident.

But—

Just as Rasa had finally found a way to teach this absurdly gifted yet completely untrained demigoddess…

"I can agree to your terms," Kaguya said coolly. "But… you must promise me one thing in return."

"..."

What now?

What kind of ridiculous demand was coming this time?
