Chapter 47: Chapter 47: Chōmei’s Emotional Perception
"Hm? Why do you want to check out the Uchiha and Hyuga clans?"
Gekko Chizan was slightly puzzled, his mind already racing with possibilities.
In a thousandth of a second, he began speculating about Pakura's intentions. As a ninja from Sunagakure, being curious about Konoha's two major kekkei genkai clans wasn't exactly a good sign.
The Uchiha and Hyuga clans were heavily guarded, after all. With so many curious eyes on them, how come no one had ever succeeded in prying?
He didn't want Pakura doing anything reckless under his watch.
"Just plain curiosity."
"If it's not allowed, forget it."
Plain curiosity, huh? Or is there some ulterior motive?
Gekko Chizan couldn't quite pin it down.
Just then, Chōmei stepped in to bail him out.
"Chizan, relax and take her. Her emotions are steady, no fluctuations."
"I reckon she just wants to check out some kekkei genkai. After all, she's a ninja with one herself."
"My chakra might not sense malice like Kurama's, but I've got my own trick—sensing emotions."
"With me keeping tabs, you can boldly go flirt with the girl!"
Holy crap, Chōmei, you're a real bro!
You've got this ability and didn't tell me sooner? Made me worry for nothing!
From now on, no matter who we meet, you've gotta help me read their emotions. It'll make socializing way easier!
Truth be told, Gekko Chizan wasn't actually worried about Pakura escaping. He had a backup plan—she was marked with his Flying Thunder God seal. Want to run? You'd have to outrun him first.
"Come on, I'll take you to the Hyuga first. I don't know many Uchihas."
Seeing Gekko Chizan actually agree to take her to see the Hyuga and Uchiha clans, Pakura felt a stir in her heart.
"You're not worried I'm scouting for intel?"
"Scout away. Those two clans are huge—think they're afraid of being watched?"
Gekko Chizan shrugged, thinking to himself: You're curious, huh? Chōmei's already feeding me your emotions.
With all my cheat-level skills, if I can't handle you, I might as well quit.
"Let's go. The Hyuga clan grounds aren't in the village center. It's a big family, after all."
With that, Gekko Chizan led Pakura toward the distance.
...
They passed through bustling streets, leaving the noise behind, gradually entering a quiet grove.
Not far off, a crest representing the Hyuga clan stood prominently.
"We're here. Any further, and you're in Hyuga territory."
"Like the Uchihas, the Hyuga are pretty proud. When we're there, look more, talk less."
Though Gekko Chizan knew plenty of Hyuga ninjas, there was no denying this clan's arrogance.
As the two entered the Hyuga clan grounds, they began to encounter clan members.
These people wore long robes and seemed quite amicable. Many even smiled faintly upon seeing Gekko Chizan.
"Hey, isn't that Chizan? What brings you to Hyuga territory?"
"That herbal medicine you sent last time tasted awful, but it worked wonders."
An elderly man even greeted Gekko Chizan warmly.
"Haha, Yamazaki-san, good to see you! Bitter medicine works best, you know."
"By the way, where are Hizashi and Hiashi? I'm looking for them."
Pakura was stunned. Why did this kid seem to know someone everywhere he went?
And from the looks of it, he'd even helped the Hyuga clan before.
"The young clan leader? He's with Hizashi at the training grounds. Come by for tea sometime."
"Will do, Yamazaki-san."
Now that he knew where to find them, Gekko Chizan exchanged a few more pleasantries before leading Pakura toward the training grounds.
...
"Curious, huh?"
"It's no big deal. I'm a bit of a wanderer. Last time I came to Hyuga territory—"
"Yamazaki-san was seriously ill. I happen to know a bit about herbs, so I whipped up some medicine for him."
At this point, Gekko Chizan chuckled to himself.
Know about herbs? Hardly. He just recognized a bunch from his past life after eating them too many times.
Like scutellaria, honeysuckle, aster, mulberry bark, dandelion, bupleurum, forsythia.
"And that's how we got to know each other."
"Come on, I'll take you to meet my friends."
...
At the training grounds, two young men in their early twenties were sparring energetically.
"Hey, Hiashi, Hizashi, having a match?"
A sudden voice interrupted their bout.
The two didn't even turn around. No need for Byakugan—they knew who it was.
"Chizan, what brings you to Hyuga territory?"
"Yeah, I heard from Kōjin you just got back from a mission. Not resting?"
After stopping, the two turned around in unison.
The eldest, Hiashi, and the younger, Hizashi.
"Well, this lovely lady was curious about the Hyuga, so I brought her to take a look."
The two paused briefly at his words.
Then they showed a hint of exasperation.
"Chizan, this must be the Sunagakure ninja you brought back from your mission, right?"
"Even if she's under your supervision, isn't it a bit reckless to let her wander so freely?"
Hyuga Hiashi was a very strict man. To him, a Konoha captive should act like one.
Not stroll around the village under supervision like it's a field trip.
"Come on, I've got her under control. Besides, the Hyuga clan's so big—afraid of a little sightseeing?"
Hiashi's face instantly flashed with pride, exuding a confident aura.
"Of course not. The Hyuga clan doesn't care about others' prying eyes."
"No matter who covets us, we'll respond with the strongest Gentle Fist!"
Hizashi, standing nearby, smiled and patted his brother's shoulder.
"Chizan's just teasing you, don't take it so seriously."
"If I'm not mistaken, this is Pakura, right? Scorch Release?"
Compared to Hiashi, Hizashi was far more approachable.
"Yes, Scorch Release. Though I can't use it now—it's sealed."
Pakura curiously studied the two men. Based on her experience, both were at least jonin-level.
Their auras were formidable. Without her Scorch Release, she wouldn't stand a chance.
Suddenly, Hiashi activated his Byakugan.
"Oh? A Five Elements Seal?"
"Your chakra flow's completely restricted. Chizan, you don't hold back, do you?"
Pakura was slightly startled, looking at Hiashi's vein-covered eyes.
"So this is the Byakugan…"
"It can see chakra flow…"
Hiashi had no patience to explain to Pakura, unlike with Gekko Chizan.
"Hahaha, you're as serious as ever, Hiashi."
"Alright, I just brought her for a quick look. We're heading back now."
"Let's hit the hot springs sometime."
At the mention of hot springs, Hiashi nearly tripped.
He shot Gekko Chizan a look full of exasperation.
