Chapter 124: Attack on Kazekage
---
As the Suna forces regrouped and the Iwa forces retreated under Yamamoto's command, another significant event unfolded.
Sunagakure Camp, Rain Country,
The Third Kazekage was deep in discussion with Chiyo after being ransomed back to Sunagakure at a significant cost to Konoha.
However, as news of the Iwa front reached the Suna camp in the Rain Country, the Kazekage was consumed with rage.
A deafening roar echoed throughout the camp, sending chills down the spines of every shinobi present. Even those stationed outside could hear his fury.
"How could Ebizo be this incompetent? Losing 2,000 ninja—and even his hand?" the Kazekage bellowed, his eyes burning with anger.
Silence filled the tent as the Suna elite Jonin hesitated before responding.
The Kazekage's voice thundered again. "Send the command! I will personally lead the Suna ninja to Iwa and make them surrender!"
The assembled Jonin quickly nodded, and within minutes, a plan was formulated.
Without delay, the Suna forces began their march, with Chiyo leading the contingent while the Kazekage remained at the rear, overseeing their movements.
Among the Suna forces, a particular figure discreetly moved near the back ranks, his keen eyes scanning the area while subtly feeling for the Kazekage's position.
One hand rested lightly on his ninja pouch, ready to act at any moment.
This figure was none other than Hiruzen's clone—who had infiltrated the Suna camp after the recent battle between Konoha and Sunagakure.
After his mission to acquire Chiyo's One's Life Reincarnation Jutsu last time. Hiruzen had already marked the Suna camp with his Flying Thunder God Jutsu before.
Now, as he remained vigilant, he contemplated his next move.
'The Kazekage is not an easy opponent,' Hiruzen's clone mused.
'If I engage him directly, the chances of losing are high with Suna's support. Even if I retreat, he'll become more cautious after this attack…'
His sharp mind raced through possibilities until an idea struck him.
'Wait... how could I forget that?'
Without hesitation, he slightly distanced himself from the group, moving just enough to avoid suspicion while maintaining his cover.
Utilizing his near-perfect chakra control, he released a subtle pulse of chakra, creating an almost imperceptible sound-based illusion around himself.
Since all the shinobi around him were using chakra to enhance their movement speed, the slight fluctuation went unnoticed.
With utmost precision, he crafted six black rods with razor-sharp tips, coating them in a lethal poison he had refined from Chiyo's memories.
Holding three rods between the fingers of each hand, he maneuvered closer to the Kazekage, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
Step by step, the distance shrank.
Five meters.
Four meters.
Three meters.
Then—he struck.
With a swift, calculated motion, Hiruzen's clone hurled the first black rod, perfectly masked by his illusion.
The Kazekage's instincts flared with warning, prompting him to shift to the side just in time to avoid a direct hit.
However, this was exactly what Hiruzen had anticipated.
Without hesitation, he unleashed the remaining five rods, each connected to nearly invisible chakra strings.
As the Kazekage's focus shifted to dodging the first rod, he suddenly found five more closing in on him from multiple angles.
His first instinct was to raise an iron sand defense, but just as his chakra flared to activate it, two rods grazed his hands, disrupting his chakra control.
Before he could recover, the first rod—now manipulated by chakra strings—suddenly reversed course and embedded itself in his back.
Three of the remaining rods were partially halted by his hastily erected iron sand barrier, but the force of the impact tore through the defense just enough for one of them to pierce his back, albeit slightly off-target.
For a brief moment, everything stood still.
The surrounding Suna shinobi, unaware of the attack due to the illusion, continued moving forward—until they abruptly breached the illusion zone after five moments.
Realizing something was wrong, they halted, but by then, it was already too late.
Hiruzen's clone wasted no time. The moment the black rod embedded into the Kazekage, he activated Shadow Binding Jutsu, further limiting his movement.
The chakra-disrupting properties of the rods rendered the Kazekage incapable of molding chakra properly, leaving him completely vulnerable.
Seizing the opportunity, Hiruzen's clone lunged forward and forcefully invaded the Kazekage's mind, scouring through his memories.
Information flooded into him in mere seconds, his mental prowess allowing him to assimilate it at an astonishing rate.
Even as he processed the influx of knowledge, his next move was already forming in his mind.
Hiruzen's clone thought, It's not enough. I must buy five minutes. Let's take him away.
With Shadow Possession, he controlled the Third Kazekage, while the 20-ninja unit finally broke free from the sound illusion.
One of the jonin spoke, "What happened all of a sudden?"
Another replied, "The Kazekage was attacked! It was an illusion—a sound illusion. We couldn't notice anything!"
The leader spoke urgently, "Let's chase them! The trail is fresh. Follow up!"
Soon, all of them gave chase, while Hiruzen's clone was assimilating the Kazekage's memories.
Meanwhile, the poison had already taken effect, slowly eroding the Third Kazekage bit by bit.
The Kazekage roared, "Who are you?! Were you sent by Iwa or Kumo to assassinate me?"
But soon enough, his thoughts went awry. This... I can't use my chakra at all. And this poison... it's Chiyo's! How does he have that? Just who is he?! Did the village betray me?
Doubt crept into his mind as he began to suspect a conspiracy. He spoke with indignation, "Speak, you bastard! Don't think this will kill me—I will skin you alive after this!"
However, his body began to move against his will. His eyes widened in shock.
This is the Nara Clan's Shadow Possession Jutsu! Is Konoha involved... along with Chiyo? It seems... I will die here...
His final thoughts spiraled into chaos as the scheme unfolded.
Meanwhile, the Suna frontline ninja soon received the message about the Kazekage's attack.
Chiyo and the other elders immediately stopped their advance and rushed toward the rear.
Chiyo spoke urgently, "How could an assassin infiltrate the camp… let alone the Kazekage's personal guard?"
She and the others sped forward.
As events unfolded, Hiruzen's clone led the Kazekage to a mountainous terrain.
Soon, the process of memory assimilation was completed, and with a final roar of anguish, the Third Kazekage met his end.
The clone then used Zetsu's transformation jutsu, perfectly matching the Kazekage's appearance and chakra signature.
Taking possession of his belongings, he absorbed the Kazekage's chakra.
Then, in the Kazekage's voice, he roared, "How dare you attack me?! I will make an example out of you!"
As the pursuing ninja approached, he controlled the Iron Sand, forming a mausoleum around the Kazekage's body, grinding it into nothingness—not even a drop of blood remained.
Soon, the enemy unit arrived, stopping at a 100-meter perimeter. Hiruzen's clone unleashed a barrage of attacks, further erasing all traces of evidence.
Shortly after, the Suna frontline forces arrived, led by Chiyo and the elite jonin.
Chiyo spoke, "Kazekage-sama!"
The others looked on in shock.
Sweeping the Iron Sand back into its usual form, Hiruzen's clone strolled forward, adopting the Kazekage's mannerisms.
He roared in anger, perfectly imitating the Kazekage's tone and irritation.
"How could an assassination happen so smoothly?! The enemy infiltrated the Kazekage's secret guard! How are you guarding the village's secrets?!"
His killing intent leaked out, suffocating the surrounding shinobi.
"You are all trash! Over at the Iwa front, even Ebizo lost to a mere child, and now an enemy infiltrates Suna's Anbu unit?! What a disgrace!"
The elite jonin, including Chiyo, didn't dare utter a word. Some of them thought bitterly,
Ever since his trip to Konoha, he's been even more irritable. How can he expect us to prevent something like this?
This is all that damn Ebizo's fault! Losing to a newly awakened S-rank ninja... truly pathetic.
Chiyo composed herself and spoke, "Kazekage-sama, we can still investigate and find clues about the enemy. Please allow me to handle the investigation."
The others nodded in agreement, but Hiruzen's clone, still impersonating the Kazekage, roared with thunderous fury.
"How can he be left alive after suffering my Iron Sand Mausoleum?! His body was crushed! There are no clues left, you incompetent fools!"
All of them flinched back at his outburst.
Chiyo, irritated but maintaining her composure, thought,
How is this our fault? We could have found something if you hadn't crushed him, hmph!
The Third Kazekage—still Hiruzen's clone—harrumphed in frustration before turning away.
"Enough. You twenty—you're all dismissed. Imbeciles. Now disappear before I make you."
