Chapter 10: The Night Truth Slipped Through 1
Lying on his bed, Shisui exhaled slowly.
But his senses were anything but still.
Even with his eyes closed, he could feel the world beyond the walls.
Shizune, quiet in her own room. Rhythmic breath, body relaxed, like sleep had already come.
And Tsunade… still drinking.
Of course, he thought.
He sat up, the sheets slipping silently off his chest. A moment later, he stood and made his way toward the door.
The hallway was quiet.
He walked barefoot down the corridor, the wooden floor cool beneath him.
Knock. Knock.
"Come in," came the familiar, tired voice. Calm but laced with irritation, like whoever was at the door better have a good reason.
Shisui pushed the door open.
Tsunade sat cross-legged at a low table, bottle in one hand, a nearly full cup in the other. Her long blonde hair was messy, clearly she hadn't cared to tie it back.
She didn't even look up.
"You lost, brat?" she asked flatly, raising the bottle and pouring herself another cup.
Shisui didn't flinch. He walked in and sat down across from her, the table between them.
"I couldn't sleep."
Tsunade leaned back, took a sip, then placed the cup down with a thud. "Don't tell me you're here to ask for a bedtime story."
"…No," Shisui replied calmly, folding his hands. "Just wanted to talk."
Tsunade snorted. "Tch. So that's what I've become, huh? Drunk grandma with a good couch?"
She raised the bottle and took a long swig, unbothered. "Alright then, Uchiha. Spill it. What's on your mind?"
Shisui sat cross-legged on the floor, arms resting on the table between them.
He didn't waste time. "I think I know who was behind the Nine-Tails attack."
That sobered her up a little. The bottle paused in midair.
"I've been looking into it for a while," he continued. "Kept it off the record. No paper trail, no whispers. Just instincts and patterns."
He leaned forward a bit, voice lower. "Honestly, this might be why someone came after me. I've poked too deep."
"Go on," she said, setting the bottle down with a dull clunk.
"There are a few possibilities. Only four that make sense to me:
One, the attack was orchestrated by the Uchiha Clan.
Two, it was a rogue Uchiha, working alone.
Three, it was someone from the inner structure, what I'm calling the 'Konoha Parasite Squad.'
Four, someone else entirely. A third party."
Tsunade leaned back slightly, eyes narrowing.
"You know the Sharingan was seen in the fox's eyes, during the attack," she said, taking a slow sip. "People talk, even now."
Shisui nodded. "That rumour wasn't wrong. But here's the thing, just because it was a Sharingan doesn't mean it had to be an Uchiha."
Tsunade raised a brow. "You mean like Kakashi?"
He gave a small nod. "Exactly. Non-Uchiha with Sharingan exist. Rare, yeah, but it's not impossible."
She took a thoughtful sip. "And you think someone like that was behind it?"
Shisui leaned back slightly, eyes shadowed. "After everything I've looked into… yeah. That possibility? It feels bigger than just the Uchiha clan turning on the village."
Tsunade narrowed her eyes. "So you're saying someone outside the clan used a stolen Sharingan to control the Nine-Tails?"
Shisui shook his head slowly. "I never said it had to be someone outside the village."
Tsunade paused mid-sip. "...You mean?"
He raised a hand. "Just hear me out first."
He leaned forward, voice dropping just a little.
"If it was the Uchiha clan behind the attack, that night was the perfect chance to go all in. The Nine-Tails was loose, the Fourth was busy holding it off, the village was in chaos. If the clan really wanted to rebel, that was the moment to strike."
Tsunade didn't interrupt. She just listened.
"But they didn't. Not one Uchiha left the compound. In fact, Danzo had ROOT stationed at the gate that night, watching them."
Tsunade scowled. "Of course he did."
Shisui nodded. "And if anyone had gone missing, one single member, you think Danzo would've sat on his hands? No. He'd have used that as the excuse he's always wanted. He would've ordered a purge that night."
A long silence.
Then Tsunade muttered, half to herself, "So you're saying either someone masked it really well, or it wasn't the Uchiha at all."
Shisui's voice was calm, but there was a fire behind it. "There's more to this than the clan. Someone wanted the Uchiha to take the fall. And they weren't stupid about it."
Of course he knew who it was. Obito.
That bastard.
All of this, because the girl he liked died? Seriously?
She died, and now he wanted to burn the world? Fine. Torch the system, the Hokage Monument, the entire shinobi way if he wanted. But the Uchiha? The very clan that raised him?
He betrayed them first.
Shisui's blood boiled.
Even now, thinking about it made his stomach twist. He clenched his fists under the table.
Tsunade raised an eyebrow but didn't push.
Shisui took a slow breath, letting the anger settle, for now.
"Alright," he said, voice steady again. "Let's say it was a rogue Uchiha. Not the clan, just a single outlier."
Tsunade leaned back, arms crossed, her tone flat. "Like you?"
Shisui gave a humourless chuckle.
"A rogue Uchiha with a Mangekyō. One strong enough to control the damn Nine-Tails. Sneak into the village, bypass ANBU and barrier seals like they were nothing. Pick a fight with the Fourth Hokage, and the entire village, and still walk out alive?"

Should he go to another world for some years?
