Chapter 5: Shisui's Last Gamble

"Tsunade-sama, the money's nearly gone. You can't go to gamble again," Shizune complained, holding Tonton in her arms.

"It's fine. It's not like we lost everything," Tsunade muttered, clearly unconcerned, resting her head on the table with a sigh.

"Tsunade-sama, you—"

Shizune's words were abruptly cut off by a sharp knock at the door.

"Who could that be?" she murmured, standing up cautiously and walking toward it.

"Maybe someone's come to collect the rent," Tsunade offered lazily from behind, still not moving.

"I already paid it," Shizune replied, turning back. "I figured you'd lose most of our cash anyway."

Without further delay, she moved to the door, slipping a kunai into her right hand as she reached for the handle with her left.

As the door creaked open, she saw a figure cloaked from head to toe, face hidden. Her grip on the kunai tightened.

"What do you want?" she asked sharply, prepared to strike if needed.

The figure stood still for a moment before answering in a calm, quiet voice.

"I need to speak with Tsunade-sama."

Shizune's eyes widened slightly.

Tsunade might have been carefree on the surface, but she never took risks with her identity. She regularly used Transformation Jutsu to disguise herself on trips to the casino, taking every precaution. No one should know who she really was unless they already knew.

Even Konoha's ANBU only knew that she was somewhere around this village. Not the exact location.

Her expression hardened as she quickly assessed the situation.

"Who are you?" she demanded, her voice cold and her kunai now fully drawn.

Tsunade had also stood up in the background, her eyes narrowing. The easygoing air from earlier was gone in an instant.

"I need to come inside," the cloaked man said firmly.

That made both Tsunade and Shizune even more alert.

"No," Shizune snapped without hesitation. "Who in their right mind lets a complete stranger inside—especially one hiding their identity?"

But Shisui was already prepared for this kind of reaction.

"I won't repeat myself. The moment you slammed the door on me, the entire village would know that Princess Tsunade is here," he said coldly.

"You—!" Shizune's face flushed with anger, but Tsunade didn't seem bothered.

"Let him in," she said casually, brushing a hand through her hair.

"Tsunade-sama!" Shizune shouted, almost in disbelief.

But Tsunade shrugged. "If he knows already, keeping him outside won't change anything."

With a frustrated huff, Shizune stepped aside but didn't lower her guard, still gripping the kunai tightly.

"If you try anything—"

"Relax," Shisui muttered as he stepped into the room

He didn't wait to sit or ask politely. Instead, he got straight to the point.

"I'm poisoned. And you're the only one who can fix it."

Both Tsunade and Shizune immediately understood what he meant.

He truly needed a medical ninja. A skilled one.

Shizune looked at Tsunade expectantly, but the older woman just turned away and poured herself a drink.

"Not interested," Tsunade said flatly, turning away.

She only ever bothered with healing when she was dead broke and even then, only if the client could actually pay. And right now, she had no interest in charity work.

"Okay," Shisui replied calmly.

He reached up and removed his cloak.

Shizune's breath caught in her throat. Her grip on the kunai tightened as her eyes landed on his face.

His eyes were gone.

Empty sockets. Not bandaged, not hidden—just hollow, raw reminders of what he'd lost.

A chill crept down her spine.

Tsunade, on the other hand, didn't even flinch. She had seen worse.

She had caused worse.

Shisui reached into his pouch and pulled out a kunai. He held it out, not in a threatening way, but as if offering it.

"To kill me."

His voice was steady. "If you're not going to help, do it. End it."

Tsunade stared at him for a moment, then snorted with a cold smirk.

"Boy, do you think I'm here to release you from pain?"

Her tone was sharp. Almost mocking.

"I'm not your angel of mercy."

She took another sip of sake, eyes unmoved. Shizune remained silent, unsure whether to intervene.

But Shisui didn't lower the kunai.

"I used to believe in the village," he said quietly. "In Konoha. In the Will of Fire. In the Hokage."

His voice carried no anger, only the deep weight of disappointment—of someone who had held on too long to ideals that crumbled in his hands.

"I put the village before my clan. Gave the Hokage more respect than my own clan leader. I thought that was loyalty. I thought it was the right thing."

He let out a bitter chuckle, empty and tired.

"But in the end… I was a fool. Just a tool. Used. Discarded."

The kunai trembled slightly in his grip—not from fear, but the effort it took to hold back everything else he wasn't saying. The grief. The betrayal. The loneliness.

"I gave everything for the peace they claimed to protect. And now? I don't even have my eyes left."

Shizune looked conflicted, glancing toward Tsunade who said nothing, just keep her arms crossed and expressionless face.

"I'm not asking for sympathy," Shisui added, finally lowering the kunai.

"I just want to live. To prevent the tragedies. To give justice those who didn't get. To take revenge. "

He looked up—empty sockets facing them like a challenge.

"You're the only one who can make that happen."
