Chapter 68: Chapter 65 Someone coming from the whirlpool
At the end of February in the 20th year of Konoha, members of the Uzumaki clan arrived in the village. Around the same time, Senju Tobirama received a notice from Yuya and ordered the main forces to retreat from the Land of Iron. Tobirama, leading his personal bodyguards, returned to the village ahead of the others.
Yuya, however, wanted to complain about this. Could he stop being so particular about bringing bodyguards everywhere? For someone with the Flying Thunder God Technique, bodyguards seemed unnecessary. Instead, they were just a burden, slowing him down. Yuya kept these thoughts to himself, though.
Of course, Yuya understood Tobirama's reasoning. These bodyguards were the next-generation leaders of Konoha's major ninja families. Tobirama would never allow anything to happen to them. Yet, from Yuya's perspective, all those people combined didn't amount to the security Senju Tobirama himself provided. With Tobirama present, Yuya's influence was significant. Without him, many things would fall apart.
For instance, if Tobirama hadn't returned, the Hyuga clan would never have agreed to give up a third of their land. Without Tobirama's backing, the Hyuga wouldn't even allow Yuya into their territory, let alone entertain discussions of cooperation.
At least, Tobirama made it back safely.
This was likely because Kumogakure was dealing with internal strife, while Iwagakure had conflicts with the Land of Taki. And as for the Land of Grass?
Well, the Land of Grass surrendered the moment Iwagakure declared war, effectively submitting to Iwagakure's control. Only the Land of Taki managed to resist.
Interestingly, the Land of Taki owned a tailed beast purchased from Senju Hashirama—the Seven-Tails. While not the strongest in direct combat, its abilities—flight, invisibility, and long-range explosive attacks—made it a devastating weapon, especially for surprise assaults on enemy territory.
Currently, Iwagakure had pushed the Taki ninja into a corner. If both sides unleashed their tailed beasts, mutual destruction was inevitable.
With the Land of Grass already submitting, Iwagakure's only remaining path to Konoha was through Taki. However, the newly appointed Third Tsuchikage, Onoki, seemed determined to establish his authority by using Taki as a proving ground for his leadership. At barely thirty years old, Onoki was in his prime, and war served as a useful tool to consolidate power and unify his village.
Meanwhile, in Konoha, the arrival of the Uzumaki clan's envoy sparked pride among the villagers. Yuya, along with officials like Nara Shikaya and Uchiha Kagami, personally welcomed the delegation in the outer city.
The Uzumaki envoy initially felt honored by the high level of courtesy. But Yuya, smiling warmly, began leading them through the streets of the outer city, pointing out the ongoing construction projects and explaining the significance of Konoha's expansion.
"This," Yuya explained, gesturing to the newly built residential areas, "is the first wave of development in the outer city. The second wave will accommodate more people coming to Konoha."
The envoy leader's expression froze as Yuya continued enthusiastically.
Yuya then introduced them to the city's primitive transportation system: human-powered rail cars operated by physically trained ninjas. Each car could carry up to 20 passengers, provided they weren't too heavy. Though basic, the system was a prototype for larger projects Yuya was spearheading.
Konoha, Yuya explained, was investing heavily in research and development, including electricity. Using a special ore with magnetic properties, Konoha's scientists had devised a way to generate power. The technology wasn't yet ready for civilian use, but Yuya demanded results within five years, or the researchers would face consequences.
Yuya also mentioned cracking Sunagakure's puppet techniques. While the technology was impressive, Konoha had little use for it. Puppets were practical for resource-poor villages like Sunagakure, but Konoha's wealth allowed for more advanced strategies.
By the end of the tour, the Uzumaki envoy had a deep appreciation for Konoha's power. They were likely convinced that Konoha could—and should—help the Land of Whirlpool.
Now the question remained: Dad, when will you come save your son? You can't just abandon the Land of Whirlpool!
