Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Nintaijutsu
Chapter 10: Nintaijutsu
The only way Nan could think of to quickly improve his taijutsu was through nintaijutsu—a fusion of ninjutsu and taijutsu.
Up to this point, Nan had never actually tested his chakra nature.
However, thanks to Han's memories, he knew that in addition to the Uchiha's inherited Fire Release, he also possessed Lightning and Earth chakra natures.
In other words, he currently had at least three chakra affinities—Fire, Earth, and Lightning.
This immediately made Nan think of Sasuke from the original story.
When Sasuke first faced the taijutsu specialist Rock Lee, he was completely overwhelmed by Lee's sheer speed.
But just one month later, after undergoing intense training with Kakashi, Sasuke had reached a level of speed comparable to Lee's—a feat that shocked Lee, who had trained tirelessly in taijutsu for years.
The secret behind Sasuke's rapid progress lay in Kakashi's method:
By using Lightning Release to stimulate the body, Sasuke increased his cellular activity and accelerated his neural reflexes, thereby enhancing his overall speed.
This technique was rooted in the principles behind Chidori, Kakashi's original jutsu.
In fact, when Kakashi first developed Chidori, his speed became so fast that even he couldn't clearly see his opponent's movements.
Nan thought to himself:
If I can apply a similar approach and use Lightning Release to boost my body—even if I can't use Chidori directly—maybe I could develop my own version of high-speed nintaijutsu... something akin to the techniques used by the Third and Fourth Raikage.
"I studied medicine for years in my previous life and specialized in biology. In this world, nobody understands the human body better than I do. And I already have Lightning Release chakra."
"If anyone can develop this kind of technique… it has to be me."
The only thing holding him back now was his lack of mastery over Lightning chakra nature transformation.
So his top priority at the moment was clear:
He needed to train in Lightning Release and gain full control over its nature transformation.
However, when it came to Lightning Release, Nan felt a bit stuck.
Neither he nor Han had ever seriously trained in Lightning Release.
Their primary focus had always been Fire Release.
Han had dabbled in Lightning techniques a little, but it was nothing more than surface-level.
Nan tried to recall the principles behind Lightning chakra transformation.
He formed a Lightning Release hand seal and concentrated his chakra into his palm.
Tiny threads of electric current sparked to life, wrapping around his hand.
This was the extent of the Lightning Release that Han had managed to cultivate—now inherited by Nan.
But using such basic Lightning control to create something as advanced as nintaijutsu was laughable at best.
He understood the theory behind the transformation.
But when it came to how to train it further, he was completely lost.
"This is going to be a real pain. When I watched Naruto in my past life, I never paid attention to which Konoha ninja specialized in Lightning Release…"
From what he remembered, most of Konoha's top-tier shinobi either used Fire Release or Yin-Yang–based secret techniques.
True Lightning Release specialists were practically nonexistent.
Aside from Kakashi, there didn't seem to be anyone in the village who had mastered it.
Nan did know Kakashi, at least on a basic level.
Thanks to his former self's habit of helping out at the Konoha Hospital, he'd treated Kakashi a few times.
But the two weren't close.
To his former self, Kakashi was just another shinobi in the village.
He had no idea that this seemingly ordinary ninja would one day become the Sixth Hokage—so there was never any intent to build a connection.
"I guess I could try asking Kakashi for guidance… but I'm not sure he'd be willing to teach me."
At this point in time, Kakashi was still grieving the death of his father, Sakumo Hatake, and hadn't yet come to terms with it.
As a result, he was known for being emotionally distant and cold toward others.
Still, Nan reasoned—
"We're both villagers of Konoha, and we already know each other. I'm just asking for some tips on training Lightning Release… It's not like I'm begging him for a forbidden technique."
"He probably wouldn't go so far as to turn me down."
The bigger issue was… he had no idea where to find Kakashi.
They weren't exactly on speaking terms, and he didn't even know if Kakashi was currently in the village.
If Kakashi was away on a mission, searching would be pointless.
So Nan came up with a foolproof, low-effort plan:
If I can't find Kakashi, I'll just wait for him to find me.
He decided to send a shadow clone to the hospital to resume his old routine—treating injured shinobi.
Whether Kakashi was currently training in the village or returning from a mission, he was bound to get hurt eventually.
And when he did, the first place he'd go would be the hospital.
That would be Nan's chance: he'd personally treat Kakashi and ask him about Lightning chakra while at it.
There was no way Kakashi could say no under those circumstances.
It was, in Nan's eyes, the perfect plan.
And even if he didn't manage to meet Kakashi, it wasn't a waste—he'd still be sharpening his medical ninjutsu.
Spending just one shadow clone?
A no-brainer. No downside at all.
With the plan in place, Nan sprang into action.
Just as he'd envisioned:
One shadow clone was sent to school,
One clone was assigned to work at the hospital,
And his true body remained behind to train in ninjutsu, taijutsu, and genjutsu.
Because his predecessor's mind had been a mess for some time, he hadn't really formed any friendships at school—so no one would question the clone's behavior.
At the academy, Nan's shadow clone simply sat in silence each day, motionless and disconnected from others to minimize chakra consumption. The classmates had long gotten used to this strange behavior—no one bothered him, and no one found it odd anymore.
At the hospital, however, the reaction was completely different.
Everyone was pleasantly surprised to see Nan return after so long. Even more so when he appeared to have regained his old cheerful and optimistic personality. Many believed he had finally come out of the emotional shadow that had clouded him for so long.
None of them realized that while his appearance remained unchanged, his soul was no longer the same person. Nan had taken over—with a purpose.
Still, Nan didn't mind maintaining his predecessor's friendships. He got along well with the hospital staff and felt no need to sever those connections.
---
While training alone at a secluded training ground, Nan made another important discovery about his own strengths.
Feeling that his progress was too slow on his own, he created another shadow clone to specifically train in Fire Release. Then, he went further—activating his Mangekyō Sharingan, he summoned a Yin-based illusion clone to train genjutsu.
As for his true body, it focused entirely on taijutsu.
The physical toll was immense, so he summoned a Yang-based illusion clone that specialized in medical ninjutsu to continuously heal him, allowing for faster recovery and accelerated progress.
Thanks to this efficient training system, Nan's growth skyrocketed.
"I never imagined the illusion clones of the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan would be this useful outside of battle…"
They weren't just combat tools—they were the perfect solution for multitasking advanced training.
The Eternal Mangekyō truly was a cheat code.
Nan also wasn't worried about anyone discovering his secret. The training ground he used was extremely remote, rarely visited even during wartime. In peacetime, it was practically abandoned.
His Yin clone had sensory capabilities, so the moment anyone approached, he could dissolve the clones instantly without leaving a trace.
---
And so, Nan trained while waiting for Kakashi to appear.
Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, a month and a half had passed.
In that time, Nan had made notable progress in ninjutsu, genjutsu, and even his weakest area—taijutsu.
Even his medical ninjutsu, which he hadn't focused on at all, improved just by being constantly exposed to real cases at the Konoha Hospital.
But Kakashi? Still nowhere to be seen.
"Where the hell is that guy? What kind of mission takes this long…?"
"If I didn't already know from watching Naruto that he survives until the end, I'd seriously think he died out there."
Of course, Nan wasn't foolish enough to pin all his hopes on one person.
As a backup plan, he started asking around the clan elders to find out if there were any other Konoha shinobi who were proficient in Lightning Release.
Unfortunately, the answers he got were the same as what Shisui had told him before.
According to the elders, a ninja's affinity often correlated with their environment.
Lightning Release was most commonly found in the Land of Lightning—home of Kumogakure.
Konoha, located in the Land of Fire, was naturally more conducive to producing Fire Release users.
While there were a few ninja in the village with Lightning Release, none had particularly high skill.
The most talented Lightning Release user in Konoha had once been Sakumo Hatake, known as the "White Fang of the Leaf."
But he was dead now.
The strongest remaining Lightning user in the village was his son—Kakashi Hatake.
To develop the kind of high-level Lightning nintaijutsu Nan envisioned, he would need guidance from someone with exceptional mastery of the Lightning element.
And that meant Kakashi was his only viable option.
"Looks like I have no choice but to keep waiting…"
---
Fortunately, persistence pays off.
Another half a month later, Nan finally saw the person he'd been waiting for.
That day, his shadow clone was stationed at the hospital as usual, treating patients like clockwork.
Suddenly, a familiar figure walked through the doors.
Kakashi Hatake had finally returned.
