Chapter 158: Chapter 158: Akatsuki's Post-Battle Meeting
Inside the Moon's Inner World
The eight individuals who had been forcibly teleported back by Ōtsutsuki Shefei sat dumbfounded on the ground, their faces etched with grief.
Both the Elder and the Clan Leader were dead. The Ōtsutsuki clan on the Moon had lost its leaders.
"What now?" someone asked, their voice filled with confusion.
"What now? Obviously, we transplant the Byakugan we've collected into Toneri, enabling him to awaken the Tenseigan and fulfill the destiny handed down by our ancestor, Hamura!" a woman exclaimed, her emotions running high.
"Exactly," a middle-aged man agreed, nodding with a hint of relief. "Fortunately, both the Clan Leader and Elder Mari had the foresight to gather several pairs of Byakugan. They even entrusted us with the pair most compatible with Toneri ahead of time."
"Yes, the Clan Leader truly had great foresight," another chimed in.
"With someone in the Shinobi World wielding power of that magnitude, our only option is to wait for Toneri to grow stronger and awaken his Tenseigan. Without it, defeating that individual is impossible," said another, his face pale with fear.
The memory of Uchiha Akira's godlike Susanoo lingered like a dark shadow over their minds.
"Let's move. We must transplant the Byakugan into Toneri without delay, so he can begin adapting to them as soon as possible," someone urged.
With that, the group took off toward the floating island in the sky, where Hamura's shrine stood.
Since Akira's attack—disguised as Uchiha Madara—Ōtsutsuki Toneri and his caretakers had been living in the shrine.
The transplantation surgery was a simple matter for them.
As they observed the transplanted Byakugan in Toneri's eyes, the group nodded in satisfaction.
Toneri was still young and unable to refine chakra on his own. For now, the procedure would only allow his body to adapt to the new eyes.
Once he was older and capable of refining chakra, the Byakugan would gradually evolve into the Tenseigan.
A young white-haired woman cradling Toneri looked at him with a mix of affection and regret.
"It's a shame this pair of eyes isn't the absolute best match for him. Otherwise, he could awaken the Tenseigan as soon as he began refining chakra."
Beside her, a blue-haired man gazed lovingly at Toneri as well. "That's true, but under the circumstances, this is still a good outcome. Even if it takes years, Toneri will eventually turn these eyes into a true Tenseigan."
The two, as Toneri's parents, naturally doted on their bloodline-pure child.
...
Meanwhile, in a Hidden Cavern within the Land of Fire
After more than two hours of effort, Uchiha Hikaru finally returned with both the Kokuō (Five-Tails) and remnants of the Son Gokū (Four-Tails).
Inside the cavern, Nagato was already waiting.
The colossal Demonic Statue of the Outer Path stood fully restored, looming silently in the shadows.
Heavy footsteps echoed through the cavern as Hikaru approached, guiding the restrained Son Gokū. Nagato, seated atop the statue's fingers, opened his eyes and gazed into the darkness.
"Hikaru, how did it go?" Nagato asked.
"Hmph," Hikaru's crimson Sharingan spun as she scoffed. "Is that a rhetorical question? With White Zetsu observing the battlefield, you already know the answer."
"White Zetsu didn't report your situation to me," Nagato replied calmly, unfazed by her attitude.
Hikaru's expression softened slightly. After a moment of silence, she said, "Uchiha Akira's strength is indeed formidable. His space-time ninjutsu is an absolute nightmare."
Nagato fell silent, acknowledging the truth in Hikaru's words.
For hours after the battle, Nagato had been contemplating how to counter Uchiha Akira's space-time techniques, but to no avail.
Kamui's perfect balance of offense and defense was practically insurmountable.
Seeing Nagato's expression, Hikaru sneered. "Looks like you haven't come up with any solutions either."
Though unwilling to admit it, Nagato nodded. "As you said, his space-time ninjutsu is flawless. The strongest offense and defense combined into one technique... Unless our raw power significantly surpasses his, we'd never find an opening to strike. Otherwise, he's virtually invincible."
"Tch. That's obvious. Thanks for stating the obvious," Hikaru said, rolling her eyes in exasperation.
Her gaze shifted toward the shadows, where Black Zetsu emerged. Narrowing her eyes, she asked,
"Do you have any ideas? You're definitely not as simple as you seem."
"I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint you," Black Zetsu replied, his voice carrying a tinge of helplessness. "Even I can't counter his space-time Dojutsu. It's too perfect."
Hikaru's tone turned cold. "Then what's your plan for recovering the Nine-Tails?"
There was no avoiding the issue. Without a way to deal with Akira, the Nine-Tails remained out of reach.
Without the Nine-Tails, the Ten-Tails couldn't be revived, and the Ten-Tails' Jinchūriki was an impossibility.
"If retrieving the Nine-Tails proves impossible, there is a backup plan," Black Zetsu said solemnly.
"Backup plan?" Nagato asked, his gaze sharp with curiosity.
A flicker of doubt crossed his mind as he recalled Uchiha Akira's cryptic remarks during their battle.
"What exactly did Akira learn from Madara's memories? Was he trying to sow discord, or was there truth to his words?" Nagato pondered, growing wary of Black Zetsu.
"Years ago, Kumogakure attempted to capture the Nine-Tails. The team was led by Kinkaku and Ginkaku. Although the two were swallowed by the Nine-Tails, as descendants of the Sage of Six Paths, they survived. Inside the beast's stomach, they devoured its flesh, gaining a permanent portion of its chakra," Black Zetsu explained.
He paused before continuing, "If recovering the Nine-Tails is truly impossible, Kinkaku and Ginkaku could serve as substitutes. With a sufficiently precise application of the Edo Tensei technique, this would be achievable."
"That would weaken the Ten-Tails, wouldn't it?" Hikaru asked coldly.
"Of course, the Ten-Tails' power would be diminished. However, even in a weakened state, the Ten-Tails' Jinchūriki would remain unstoppable," Black Zetsu declared confidently.
"Is there no other way for us to increase our strength now?" Hikaru pressed, unwilling to accept this outcome.
Nagato's eyes also bore into Black Zetsu, silently demanding answers.
Black Zetsu fell into contemplation. As an ancient being who had witnessed countless secrets of the Shinobi World, he undoubtedly held knowledge capable of reshaping destiny.
If he chose to impart it, he could easily mold someone into a peerless force.
