Chapter 187: Chapter 187: Uchiha Hikari Awakens the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan
While Akira was teaching Fugaku, Shisui, and Tsunade the Sage Mode, far away in Amegakure, Orochimaru's clone experiment was finally complete.
Uchiha Hikari stared at Zetsu, whose appearance resembled a pitcher plant, and asked sharply,
(T/N: From now on, Hikaru will be referred to as Hikari, as this is the character's canonical name. Previously, I had assumed Hikaru was an original character created by the author of this fanfic.)
"Zetsu, this clone of Uchiha Madara hasn't awakened the Sharingan. Are you saying that an unawakened clone can still be used to unlock the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan?"
Standing beside her, Nagato looked equally curious as his gaze shifted to Black Zetsu.
Over the past six months, both he and Hikari had been perfecting their Sage Modes, reaching the point where they could now utilize them in battle. The improvement in their strength was remarkable.
Nagato, in particular, had discovered some unexpected techniques by combining the Ryūchi Cave Sage Mode with senjutsu. Now, the only thing holding them back was Hikari's Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. Once she unlocked it, her power would undergo another significant leap, possibly equaling his own.
With the imminent resurrection of the Three-Tails, their chances of capturing it would also rise dramatically.
Orochimaru, clad in his white lab coat, watched Zetsu with curiosity, his demeanor more akin to a researcher than a formidable shinobi. Initially, he had suspected his cloning technique was flawed, which might explain why the clone hadn't awakened the Sharingan. But now, it was clear there was more to the story.
Black Zetsu chuckled confidently. "Heh. If you follow my instructions, this issue won't be a problem at all."
"How so?" Hikari asked.
"We'll need a small favor from Nagato," Zetsu replied, his gaze shifting to him.
"Me?" Nagato raised an eyebrow. "What do you need me to do?"
Rather than answering directly, Zetsu turned to Hikari.
"Hikari, do you trust Nagato? If he harbors ill intent, it could be extremely dangerous for you."
Hikari frowned, her thoughts swirling as she wrestled with her decision.
"Hikari, trust me," Nagato said solemnly. "At least for now, you have no reason to doubt me. Until we capture the Tailed Beasts, our goals are aligned."
After a moment's hesitation, Hikari nodded decisively. "Fine. I'll trust you."
"Now, tell us the plan," Nagato urged.
Zetsu smirked. "It's simple. Nagato will use the Preta Path to extract Hikari's soul and transfer it into Madara's clone. This will activate the Sharingan within the clone."
Orochimaru's eyes lit up as realization dawned on him.
"Ah, I see now! So the issue isn't the clone itself but the absence of a specific type of chakra—ocular power. Fascinating!"
This revelation thrilled Orochimaru. If this technique worked, perhaps he could one day obtain a Mangekyō Sharingan of his own. His extensive knowledge of soul transference and his mastery of cursed seals and the Eight Branches Technique made him confident in his ability to explore such possibilities.
As Hikari approached the clone, she prepared herself. Nagato's Rinnegan glowed as he activated the Preta Path. Without resistance, Hikari's soul was extracted and transferred into Madara's clone.
The moment her soul merged with the clone, its eyes snapped open, locking onto Zetsu.
"Channel your chakra and awaken the Sharingan as you normally would," Zetsu instructed calmly.
Following his guidance, the clone's pitch-black eyes glimmered red. The Sharingan activated, and under their watchful gazes, its pattern evolved—three hollow tomoe connected in a spiral, forming the shape of a Mangekyō Sharingan.
Zetsu smiled smugly. "See? I told you it would work."
"Impressive, Zetsu," Nagato acknowledged.
Orochimaru, however, felt a twinge of unease.
This Zetsu… there's something deeply unsettling about him.
With Nagato's assistance, Hikari's soul returned to her original body.
"Do you need me to perform the transplantation?" Orochimaru offered, his tone eager. "I may be more of a researcher, but I have considerable expertise in medical ninjutsu as well."
"That won't be necessary," Zetsu declined. "The Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan isn't achieved through a simple eye transplant. It requires a specific process to merge the powers of both eyes."
"What a shame," Orochimaru sighed dramatically. "Well then, allow me to congratulate you in advance."
Turning to Zetsu, Hikari said, "You'll assist me with this?"
"Of course," Zetsu replied with a nod.
"Let's get started. I can't wait to claim those eyes," Hikari said as she headed into the darkened laboratory.
"Ah, the impatience of youth," Zetsu mused, removing the clone's eyes before following her.
As they disappeared, Orochimaru addressed Nagato.
"If there's nothing else, I'll return to my lab."
"Actually, Orochimaru, I have a request," Nagato said.
"Oh?" Orochimaru tilted his head, intrigued. "What is it?"
"I want you to perfect the Edo Tensei technique. The current situation isn't in Akatsuki's favor, and even now, I'm not fully confident we can defeat Uchiha Akira. His space-time ninjutsu is too formidable. We need someone equally adept at such techniques to counter him."
Understanding dawned on Orochimaru. "I see. You're suggesting that if we can't find such individuals in the living world, we'll summon them from the Pure Land."
"Exactly."
Orochimaru grinned. "Fortunately, I've been refining Edo Tensei for some time now. The potential of this technique is truly extraordinary."
"Thank you, Orochimaru. If you encounter any obstacles in your research, let me know," Nagato said sincerely.
As Orochimaru vanished into the shadows, Konan finally broke her silence.
"Nagato, once Hikari unlocks the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, she might become even more unruly. Will you still be able to control her?"
"I also feel that Hikari isn't as simple as she seems. My intuition tells me she's dangerous," Konan said, her tone filled with concern.
"Don't worry, Konan," Nagato reassured her. "I can handle her. While her abilities may appear overwhelming, they're largely reliant on her dōjutsu. And as long as I wield the Rinnegan, I maintain ultimate control over the Gedo Statue. With it in our possession, she won't dare betray us."
"Even so, don't underestimate her," Konan warned.
In the depths of the laboratory, Zetsu completed the final stages of Hikari's eye transplantation, shrouded in shadows and secrets.
