Chapter 126: Chapter 126: The Dragon Vein
In the tallest and most magnificent building at the center of Roran, the royal court was in session.
The Queen of Roran, looking slightly fatigued, massaged her temples.
Unlike many rulers who only indulged in pleasures, she was highly diligent, personally handling all state affairs. Though a woman, under her governance, the citizens of Roran lived prosperous lives.
At the end of her day in court, she returned to her chambers, dismissed her attendants, and prepared to rest.
Upon entering, she saw a woman dressed in a kimono with an alluring appearance, sitting elegantly in a chair. The woman, seeing the queen, smiled faintly.
The queen was not surprised by her presence; instead, she calmly approached and began to speak:
"Scorpion, how is the progress on developing puppet weapons using the Dragon Vein?"
"We've made some preliminary advancements," Scorpion replied.
The queen nodded. "Good."
"Adversity brings survival; comfort breeds destruction."
Beneath Roran slumbered a massive reservoir of chakra known as the Dragon Vein. It was this power that created the stark difference between Roran's fertile lands and the surrounding desert.
The Dragon Vein was the foundation of Roran's establishment, providing a haven for its people.
However, the possession of such power inevitably attracted covetous eyes.
The survival of Roran was tied to the Dragon Vein; if it were lost, so too would Roran. To prevent such a disaster, the queen had to prepare in advance.
Thus, the wanted criminal Scorpion of the Land of Wind became her perfect ally.
She offered Scorpion protection, and in return, Scorpion helped her harness the Dragon Vein to create a puppet army. It was a mutually beneficial partnership.
The queen had no ambition to conquer the world; she merely sought the strength to protect her kingdom.
After a brief conversation, Scorpion left the queen's chamber and descended to the lowest level of the building.
Below lay the foundation of Roran itself—the Dragon Vein.
Feeling the immense chakra emanating from below, Scorpion's eyes burned with ambition.
With the queen's help, she had already begun to harness the Dragon Vein's power for her own use.
Once she had fully utilized the queen, she planned to replace her. Roran would become her base, and she would slowly expand her influence, eventually overthrowing the daimyos of the Land of Wind and turning their heads into decorative lamps.
Her fellow ninjas from Sunagakure were foolish, blind to the reality that the daimyos were suppressing their village's military strength by cutting funding out of fear.
These daimyos, most of whom didn't even possess chakra, owed their positions to the village's protection, yet they dared to act arrogantly.
If they were so short-sighted, they couldn't blame her for using the Dragon Vein to overthrow the regime of the Land of Wind.
As she imagined her future, Scorpion suddenly sensed something unusual around her. Her brows furrowed, and she spun around, flinging several shuriken.
The sound of metal clashing echoed as the shuriken were deflected and clattered to the ground.
"Who's there?"
Scorpion turned in the direction of the noise and saw several unfamiliar figures dressed as ninjas.
"Konoha ninjas?" she exclaimed in surprise.
"Surrender peacefully..." Sato began, attempting to use persuasion techniques.
However, he wasn't the reincarnation of Ashura and lacked any divine persuasive powers, making his attempt both ineffective and irritating.
Angered, Scorpion formed a hand seal in the shape of a cross—the signature Shadow Clone hand sign.
With a loud puff, several clones identical to her appeared, dispersing the surrounding smoke.
Her actions didn't stop there. She swiftly retrieved several scrolls, unfurled them, and summoned puppets sealed within.
The identical Scorpion clones spread their fingers, and thin blue chakra threads shot out, connecting to the puppets. They assumed combat stances, ready for battle.
"What a troublesome opponent..."
Tōshirō muttered, observing the scene. Each of Scorpion's clones controlled two puppets, efficiently maximizing her combat potential.
The puppets lunged, their sharp limbs screeching ominously as they moved, their sound sending chills down the spine.
Some puppet masters enhanced their puppets by coating their weapons with deadly poisons. Even a small scratch could result in instant poisoning.
Faced with this, Tōshirō dared not let his guard down. His hands formed seals rapidly, and he unsheathed his sword. A cold aura infused the blade, and within moments, a layer of ice visibly formed on its surface. The once-smooth blade now bristled with icy spikes.
"Ice Release: Shark Fang."
The sound of clashing weapons filled the air as Tōshirō deflected an incoming attack. Without lingering in battle, he strategically retreated toward Tsunade.
With a flash of white light, a blade cut through the air.
This time, Tōshirō didn't dodge. Gripping his sword with both hands, he met the attack head-on—but instead of using the blade, he parried with the flat of the sword.
Beside him, Tsunade crouched low, dodging an attack while delivering a powerful punch to the puppet's flank.
Seeing this, Scorpion quickly moved her fingers to manipulate the puppets. At this range, she should theoretically be able to evade.
However, to her utter surprise, the puppet suddenly froze, unable to move. Upon closer inspection, she realized that the boy's sword had narrowed unexpectedly at the back edge, jamming the weapon held by the puppet and preventing it from retreating in time.
Tsunade seized the opportunity, landing a punch squarely on the puppet.
With a loud boom, the puppet was obliterated, its parts scattering across the ground.
Watching her beloved puppet so easily destroyed, Scorpion frowned deeply.
Yet, this wasn't the most troubling issue. The ice-style ninja's ability to freeze her chakra threads with ice-infused chakra rendered her puppets completely immobile.
Even with the power of the Dragon Vein on her side, Scorpion was like a lone tiger fighting off a pack of wolves. If this continued, her defeat was inevitable.
Her gaze shifted to Tōshirō and Tsunade, the two relatively weaker ninjas in the group of four.
She had to make a choice. Eliminating one of them would reduce the pressure. While it wasn't that Tōshirō was necessarily weaker than Tsunade, his abilities were far more troublesome to deal with.
With this thought, she decisively set her sights on Tōshirō .
When Tōshirō noticed the boss charging toward him, he felt the full brunt of the pressure. Without needing the Sharingan, it was clear that her taijutsu skills far outmatched his. Coupled with the disadvantage of his younger age, he was not her opponent in this situation.
Tōshirō fought while retreating, barely holding his ground.
As Scorpion dashed forward, her loose kimono began to writhe, as though something was emerging from it.
"So, it's finally happening?"
Tōshirō squinted, holding his breath as he concentrated.
From the information they already had, it was clear that this woman had been holding back a secret technique. It seemed she was finally about to reveal it.
In an instant, several black shadows shot out from Scorpion's upper body. Her loose kimono slipped off her shoulders, revealing what lay hidden beneath.
Her exposed skin was covered in intricate tattoos that detached from her body and transformed into physical entities, launching attacks. It resembled a technique similar to Super Beast Scroll.
However, there was one small problem that left Tōshirō almost speechless.
Couldn't she at least put on some clothes?
Even a simple chest wrap would do!
And... those things are way too big…
Only now did Tōshirō realize that she might have been wearing absolutely nothing under her kimono.
Distracted for a moment, he suddenly heard someone shout jealously, "You idiot! What the hell are you staring at?!"
Startled, Tōshirō snapped back to reality just in time to dodge the fangs of a snake lunging at him.
"Phew… that was close. Almost got hit."
Clutching his chest, Tōshirō breathed heavily, feeling a lingering sense of dread.
He finally understood why she wasn't wearing anything under her kimono.
Normally, anyone who saw such a scene would be stunned for a moment. Thankfully, he was a gentleman. If it had been Jiraiya, the mission would've ended here.
But before Tōshirō could relax, his eyes widened as he looked down to see two bite marks on his calf, bleeding slightly. It seemed he had been bitten by a snake.
Tōshirō's eyes nearly popped out of his head. I clearly dodged it! How did this happen?
"You were too focused on what's up top and neglected what's below," Scorpion said smugly, brushing her chest with a seductive smile.
"What the…?"
As if to show off, Scorpion lifted the hem of her skirt, revealing her pale, full thighs. A small snake was slithering up her leg, disappearing into the inside of her thigh.
Tōshirō froze for a moment before realizing what had just happened, his face turning as black as coal.
Given that this woman wasn't wearing anything on top, it was highly likely she wasn't wearing anything below either. Which meant… that snake… might have come from… there.
Oh, crap.
Using her upper body as a distraction to seduce the enemy, she exploited the moment their attention was fixed above to launch a sneaky attack from below.
This tactic is so dirty!
(Author's Note: Writing about such a technique isn't on me—it's based on something that already exists. I'm just borrowing the concept.)
"Hmph, one down. Time for the next," Scorpion said with a sinister laugh, her gaze shifting toward her next target.
Before she could fully focus on her next move, a lightning-clad short blade pierced through her chest.
Her eyes bulged like a goldfish's, her neck stiffly turning to see the white-haired boy behind her. Her expression was one of utter disbelief.
With her main body gravely injured, all her shadow clones vanished instantly.
"You underestimated my abilities," White Fang said coldly, his hawk-like eyes sharp and devoid of their usual gentleness.
Coughing up a mouthful of blood, Scorpion stumbled forward, breaking free from the blade. She took a few unsteady steps before turning around, revealing mysterious purple markings on her face. "Let's all be buried together in the power of the Dragon Vein!"
Before her words could settle, a massive surge of deep purple chakra erupted from below, centered around Scorpion. The overwhelming energy rapidly expanded outward, destroying everything in its path.
Realizing the imminent danger, everyone retreated hastily.
Tōshirō had barely taken a few steps before his legs gave out, and he collapsed to the ground, his face pale as ash. The poison from the earlier snake bite had taken effect.
"Damn it… why does it have to happen now…"
