Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Sasuke Is Stripped Naked
Ring ring ring…
Izayoi and Hinata had only whispered to each other when the school bell rang. In an instant, the entire classroom fell silent—a rare sight on a normal day.
"The graduation exam topic is the Clone Technique. The test room is at the end of the right corridor. Students whose names are called by the teacher will step forward," announced a voice.
Barely had the bell finished ringing when Iruka Umino appeared at the classroom door. He didn't approach the podium; he merely announced the procedure at the door and left.
Soon, a Chūnin wearing a green vest appeared, holding a list of names. He began calling them: "Minako…" One by one, students rose when their names were called. Some looked anxious, others confident. They exited the classroom and didn't return. Hinata stood among them.
"…Izayoi."
A few minutes after Hinata left, Izayoi heard his own name. Rising quietly, he left the classroom and headed down the corridor to the exam room. He pushed the door open to see Iruka Umino and Mizuki, homeroom teacher of Class Two, seated at a long table. As Izayoi entered, Iruka smiled gently.
"Izayoi, let's begin."
"Yes," he replied, and swiftly formed hand seals, murmuring, "Clone Technique!"
With two simultaneous pops, white clouds of smoke appeared on his left and right. As the smoke dissipated, two perfect phantom clones—identical in every detail—stood beside him.
Iruka and Mizuki exchanged impressed glances. Iruka removed a forehead protector engraved with "Genin," stood, and smiled. "Your clones are perfect. Congrats on passing the graduation exam. You're now a Genin."
"Thank you, Iruka-sensei, Mizuki-sensei," Izayoi responded, accepting the forehead protector and bowing slightly.
Iruka instructed, "No need to return to the classroom. Don't leave the school yet—head to the training grounds for our class and wait for the others. Afterward, I'll take your profile photo."
Izayoi bowed slightly and answered, "Yes," before exiting the exam room.
Outside the teaching building, he spotted Hinata waiting. They greeted each other with smiles and walked toward the training grounds.
Already, about a dozen students were gathered:
"Yo, Izayoi, Hinata—you passed too!"
"This graduation exam is nothing for you two."
"After the profile photos, should we celebrate?"
"Nah, I want to celebrate with my family—they're waiting outside."
"True. Let's meet again later."
"How many from our class will pass?"
"At least twenty. We're Class One, after all."
"Anyway, Naruto's definitely doomed."
Izayoi and Hinata smiled as classmates chatted them up.
Then Sasuke—third in the grade, occasionally second—approached. The crowd discreetly dispersed.
"Want to spar later?" Sasuke asked, his fighting spirit clear.
Izayoi smiled politely. "Not now. I've heard that as Genin we'll form teams of three, training under Jonin. Since we already know each other's strength, fighting now won't change much. It's better to train under our instructor and then see how much we grow."
Sasuke recalled their frequent battles, his fighting spirit dimming. "Okay, let's spar after some training."
"No problem," Izayoi replied.
Over the past few years, Izayoi had sparred weekly with Sasuke—sometimes twice. He'd absorbed a torrent of talent entries: Sage Art – Eye (Red), Shadow‑level Talent (Purple), Uchiha Bloodline (Purple), and even Ōtsutsuki Bloodline (Blue). The tens of thousands of points came from Sasuke, Hinata, and other classmates—Hinata contributing the most. Izayoi's chakra control was so refined that he retained more than 10,000 points afterward.
Within their class, Izayoi stood alone at the top tier. Sasuke and Hinata formed the second tier, while the children of ninja clans and other students occupied the third. From third grade onward, apart from Sasuke and Hinata, it became exceedingly difficult to earn talent entries. And even if someone did—the entries were usually low-level. Luckily, strength isn't judged by chakra alone, or Naruto would be the sole source of high-level entries throughout the school.
Thanks to Izayoi, Sasuke was nearly "dried out"—their battles depleted his skill scrolls more than once. Despite this, they had formed a solid friendship, with sparring sessions continuing sporadically.
Now, Sasuke's strength had surpassed even the original series—his Sharingan awakened the night of the clan's extermination. Among the skill bubbles floating around him, the Uchiha Bloodline (Purple) had evolved: Bloodline Limit · Sharingan (Purple). In other words, he could activate his Sharingan at will. Since that night, Sasuke had grown prideful, relying only on Izayoi and Hinata to challenge him.
If Izayoi, Sasuke, and Hinata formed the same squad, they would undoubtedly be the strongest among all Genin. Even the Ino‑Shika‑Chō team or Gaara's Sand Village trio couldn't compare. But fate prevented that—they would be split up.
In all of Konoha, only one Jonin was truly fit to train both Sasuke and Naruto: Kakashi Hatake.
