Chapter 37: We Will Clear Things Up
After destroying Black Zetsu, Luo Lei stood motionless for a moment.
The mountain before him, a massive rock formation over 4,000 meters tall, rose defiantly.
Suddenly, his eyes lit up again with a crimson glow, and rays burst forth from them.
ZZZZT! ZZZZT! ZZZZT!
The air filled with the sharp sound of laser beams cutting through solid rock. Each shot was precise and calculated, tracing perfect lines across the mountain.
KRSHHH! KRSHHH!
The mountain began to split, perfect blocks of rock separating from each other as if they were pieces of a gigantic puzzle.
As the cuts were completed, enormous sections of the mountain began to collapse, creating a thunderous noise that echoed throughout the valley.
From a distance, the once imposing mountain now looked like a colossal LEGO block game, each piece perfectly cut and separated from the others.
Observing his work, a cold snort escaped his lips. Despite the massive destruction he had just caused, a part of him felt it still wasn't enough.
Remembering the days in Konoha when his every move was watched, every step carefully calculated. Even when he had discovered traces of White Zetsu in the village during his time in ANBU, he had been forced to feign ignorance.
The threat of Madara and Black Zetsu lurking in the shadows had been too great to confront then.
But now, with this new power coursing through his veins, things were different. Zetsu's appearance to spy on him had been the perfect opportunity to send a clear message.
Standing still for a moment, his fist slightly clenched as he admired his new power.
"I've become much stronger," he murmured with satisfaction. "Especially my perception... now I can sense everything within a six-kilometer radius. Nothing escapes me."
A playful smile drew on his lips as he considered his options. "Bah, going back to camp would be boring," he decided. His eyes gleamed with anticipation as a new idea took shape.
"Why not enjoy the moonlight and make a surprise visit to the battlefield in the Land of Grass?"
This battlefield had provided him with an abundant harvest of power. What surprises would await him in the Land of Grass?
Without further ado, he prepared to depart. In an instant, his body became a blur barely perceptible to the human eye.
WHOOSH!
The sound of his departure was barely audible, a soft crackle in the air.
But the real spectacle came afterward. At the exact moment Luo Lei disappeared, the mountain he had cut with such precision finally yielded to gravity.
BOOM! CRASH!
The mountain over 4,000 meters tall collapsed upon itself. Huge clouds of dust rose into the sky, obscuring the stars. The impact was so powerful that the earth shook, as if an earthquake was rocking the region.
_____
In the depths of the Cemetery Mountain, where darkness seemed to have a life of its own.
The air here was heavy, charged with the weight of millennial secrets and plans spanning generations.
Madara, seated on his wooden throne, looked more like a statue than a living man. His eyes were closed, his breathing barely perceptible, as if in deep meditation.
The silence in the cave was absolute, broken only by the occasional drip of water from the stalactites.
Suddenly, the earth in front of the throne began to ripple, and Black Zetsu emerged like a shadow coming to life.
"Madara-sama," he began with fear in his voice. "Another... significant event has occurred."
Madara slowly opened his eyes, revealing a 3-Tomoe Sharingan, fixing on Zetsu. A slight frown crossed his face.
"What is it now, Zetsu?" he asked. "Lately, you seem to be in a constant state of alarm. It's not as if the sky is falling, is it?"
Zetsu hesitated, uncharacteristic of him. Madara, noticing this unusual display of insecurity, hardened his tone. "Speak at once."
Taking what seemed to be a deep breath, he blurted out, "It's Luo Lei," he began. "His power... has grown again. Not only did he destroy my clone, but he also..."
Madara arched an eyebrow, his patience wearing thin. "....What else, Zetsu? Spit it out already."
Zetsu seemed to shrink under the intensity of Madara's gaze. "He... he knows your name, Madara-sama. And not only that, but... he threatened to kill you."
The silence in the cave became oppressive, as if the air itself had solidified. Madara, whose composure was rarely altered, felt his world waver slightly.
"...Are you sure he mentioned my name?" He whispered. But even as he asked the question, his mind was already processing the implications.
Suddenly, as if an electric shock had gone through him, Madara rose from his seat.
His face showed an expression that Zetsu had never seen before: pure astonishment.
"How?" The question left his lips almost involuntarily. "How is it possible that he knows I'm alive?"
His eyes now shone with confusion. He had spent decades ensuring that his survival was the best-kept secret in the world. The idea that someone, especially a young ninja like Luo Lei, could know this fact was inconceivable.
"R-Repeat it," Madara demanded, his voice trembling slightly. "Word for word, what did he say exactly?"
Visibly nervous, Zetsu recounted the events once again. "My avatar was observing Luo Lei, but somehow he detected it. In his fury, he not only destroyed my clone, but also threatened to kill us if we continued monitoring him."
Listening attentively, his mind working at full speed. Zetsu's level of concealment was unmatched. That Luo Lei had not only detected him, but also made such a direct threat... it was unprecedented.
For a moment, he considered the possibility that Zetsu was lying. But one look at the creature confirmed that the fear in his eyes was genuine. Zetsu didn't have the courage to fabricate a lie of this magnitude.
The legendary Uchiha sank into deep silence, his mind evaluating every possible scenario.
"Madara-sama."
"It seems that Luo Lei's power has increased again. My clone was detected right after this increase." Zetsu said.
Madara still remained silent.
Gradually, an enigmatic smile drew on his wrinkled face. "Interesting," he murmured.
"Very interesting. It seems that Luo Lei holds secrets that even I don't know."
Still unsure, Zetsu dared to ask: "What should we do now, Madara-sama? Do we continue monitoring Luo Lei?"
"It won't be necessary," he replied, his eyes shining with curiosity. "We are at a critical moment in our plan. We must not provoke him further. When the plan is almost complete, I will personally take care of him."
Despite the threat that Luo Lei represented, Madara showed no fear. His face reflected only arrogance and confidence, as if this new challenge was simply another obstacle to overcome.
After giving instructions about Luo Lei, Madara changed the subject. "What about Obito? Is he following our plan?"
"Everything is going as planned," Zetsu replied without hesitation.
Madara let out a sigh. "The world is restless. We must hurry. And as for Nagato, we cannot lower our guard. Continue monitoring him and guiding him in secret."
With a wave of his hand, he dismissed Zetsu, who obediently sank into the ground, leaving him alone with his thoughts.
Once alone, he allowed himself to show a moment of weakness. "Tch," he clicked his tongue, frustrated.
In the past, he would have personally gone to confront someone as arrogant as Luo Lei. But now... his body was no longer what it used to be.
Looking at his wrinkled hands, he realized that time was running out. He had to fix everything before his body finally gave out.
