Naruto: The Impending Annihilation of the Ninja World

Chapter 14: Chapter 14: Observers of the End

Deep within the subterranean corridors of Orochimaru's secret base, a suffocating stillness hung in the air — not the result of toxic gas or chemical experiments, but the chilling weight of knowledge.

A long metal table was cluttered not with cadaver charts or cursed seals, but with scrolls, charts, and maps of the stars. Blueprints of orbital diagrams, meteor trajectory projections, and ancient astronomical records formed a chaotic mosaic of the heavens — far beyond Orochimaru's usual obsession with flesh and jutsu.

A groan of iron broke the silence.

The heavy door creaked open, and a tall, hunched silhouette entered — Sasori of the Red Sand. His presence was as cold and meticulous as the puppets he commanded.

"You're here," Orochimaru said without looking up. His tone was almost casual, but there was a sharpness beneath the surface — like a snake sensing heat in the dark.

Sasori replied in his usual clipped tone. "The observatory you requested is complete."

Only then did Orochimaru look up, golden eyes gleaming. "As expected. Your precision never disappoints."

"Hmph," Sasori scoffed, "the rest is your concern."

They walked in silence through a winding corridor, torches flickering as their shadows danced against the stone walls. The tunnel eventually opened up to a wide cavern behind the base — an open space now housing a compact but masterfully constructed observatory platform, built from salvaged chakra steel and reinforced stone.

The structure gleamed with calibrated lenses, rangefinders, and inscription-based measuring tools. It bore Sasori's hallmark design — simple, efficient, coldly perfect.

Orochimaru stepped forward, adjusting the telescope with deft hands. As he peered into the eyepiece, he spoke lowly, half to himself, half to the void:"The heavenly object... It draws closer."

He adjusted his calculations, marked down orbital drift, and scribbled figures across a worn scroll. With each line, his expression shifted — from curiosity to solemn realization.

Sasori watched him quietly. "Judging by your expression... the leader was telling the truth?"

Orochimaru's voice was unusually grave. "I'm afraid so. Based on the current velocity and trajectory... this asteroid will make impact in exactly forty-three days."

The cruelly short number hung heavy in the air.

Sasori's eyes narrowed. "How bad?"

Orochimaru answered, voice flat and analytical — which only made it worse.

"Upon impact, the surface will rupture. The crust will heave. Oceans will vaporize. Shockwaves, global volcanic activity, tsunamis, and a chain of atmospheric collapses... Life as we know it will cease."

"Over ninety-nine percent of all biological life will be wiped out."

A long silence passed.

Sasori finally asked, "And the Rinnegan? Can it stop this?"

"Perhaps delay it. Shield a pocket of land... But not stop it. This is not a mere jutsu. This is nature in revolt. The divine law of mass and force — unbending and absolute." Orochimaru's gaze didn't leave the stars.

The air in the cavern seemed to freeze. For once, both men stood not as criminals or conspirators — but simply as survivors staring down inevitability.

Sasori finally broke the silence. "So, what now? What's your next move?"

Orochimaru turned to him slowly, lips curling into that familiar, knowing smile."Tell me, Sasori... would men like us ever trust our survival to others?"

Sasori's eyes flashed. "You've already contacted Konoha?"

Orochimaru chuckled, noncommittal. "And you? Heading back to the Sand to visit that dear old grandmother of yours?"

The comment hit its mark. Sasori's gaze flickered, his mask slipping just for a heartbeat as a memory surfaced — Chiyo. Then, without another word, he turned and walked away.

"I'm reporting this to the Akatsuki. Let the leader decide what to do."

His footsteps echoed down the stone corridor, fading into silence.

Orochimaru stood unmoved, watching the exit with faint amusement. "He'll come crawling back," he muttered. "We all will. When the sky falls."

From the shadows, Kabuto Yakushi emerged, spectacles glinting in the dim light.

"Orochimaru-sama," he asked softly, "how should we proceed?"

Orochimaru's tone sharpened instantly. "This base is no longer secure. Begin immediate relocation of all core data, genetic material, and experimental subjects to Facility 4 — the one beneath the Taki border."

Kabuto nodded. "And infrastructure?"

"Establish a self-sustaining ecosystem. Underground farms. Water filters. Medical supplies. Chakra batteries. Enough to last three years minimum."

Kabuto scribbled into a scroll. "Understood."

Orochimaru turned again to the telescope. "Knowledge is the foundation of our survival. It won't be brute strength or kekkei genkai that rebuild the world. It will be those of us who prepared."

His golden eyes glowed."I want to see who endures. I want to see what kind of new Ninja World emerges from the ashes."

Kabuto bowed slightly. "And what about the Uchiha boy?"

Orochimaru's smile twisted deeper. "Ah... yes. Uchiha Gen. The child who awakened a Mangekyō that may have triggered this very catastrophe. I intend to investigate him personally."

He turned toward a scroll lying open nearby — one containing cells from several former Hokage, stolen long ago from Konoha's crypts. His fingers hovered over the parchment.

"To survive this... perhaps even their strength must be borrowed."

Just then, a Root ninja stepped into the edge of the chamber, kneeling respectfully.

"Orochimaru-sama. Danzo-sama requests a meeting."

At that, Orochimaru's expression lifted into an amused sneer.

"Well, well... It seems even the rats of Konoha have begun to gnaw at the walls."

He waved a hand. "Tell Danzo I will be visiting him — very soon."

As the Root agent disappeared, Kabuto turned. "Will he be useful?"

"Danzo always is," Orochimaru whispered, eyes sharp with anticipation."He wouldn't crawl out of his den unless he had something I wanted."

His gaze returned to the sky, past the telescope and through the cavern roof, as if he could see the asteroid hurtling toward Earth.

"Uchiha Gen...The end of this world...The birth of the next...Let's see which truths survive the fall."
