Fortunately enough for Naruto, Higurashi's was still open. Double-checking that the broken tantō was in the pocket of his trousers, he then advanced into the shop.

Tenten was just sitting down as he entered.

"Hey Naruto." she said when she spotted him, "Need more clothes?"

"Nope. Not yet at least." Naruto replied, "I actually found a broken weapon in a training ground and I was wondering if it was repairable."

"Oh? Let's have a look then." Tenten leaned forward in curiosity, "If I can't fix it, then Oyaji can."

Naruto drew the tantō from his pocket and laid it down on the desk. Tenten took one look at tit before an expression of pure rage came over her face and she reached over to grab Naruto by the collar.

"Where did you find it?!" she demanded, shaking her quarry violently, "Where?!"

"Ten-chan, I think yo might want to let him go before you choke him to death." a female voice suggested in amusement as Higurashi Kanae stepped out of the family portion of the building.

Tenten looked at her mother in confusion before looking at Naruto properly. He was turning red at the solid grip she had on his neck.

With an 'eep' of embarrassment, the bun-haired girl dropped him and started fussing over the blond shinobi in training as he started to gulp in air.

"I almost went over the Sanzen Rivers!" Naruto muttered, "Remind me to train myself into the ground before I ever spar with you, Tenten."

"Her Jonin-sensei would be appreciative of your compliments to her physical strength." Kanae chuckled, "I'm Tenten's mother, Kanae. What was it that made Ten-chan so angry…ah, just as I thought."

"I take it you know the blade?" Naruto asked sarcastically as he massaged his neck.

"This is Toradora, a tantō that I forged just before I took the Genin exams last year." Tenten explained, "Where did you find it and what the hells happened to it?"

"In Training Ground Thirteen and I have no idea." Naruto replied honestly, "If I had to guess though, I'd say it was hit by a hammer of some kind."

Kanae picked the blade up and examined it. "Hmmm…yes, I'd agree. If not a hammer then an immense blow with some other kind of blunt object."

"Wait…Training Ground Thirteen?" Tenten looked at Naruto in confusion, "Isn't that place closed for Chakra Saturation?"

"Jiji let me in, to the first three areas at least." Naruto replied, "I found that in the first area. Hat to kill three mutated grey squirrels and two red ones to get it."

"Wow." Tenten said, then regarded Toradora with a frown, "How the hell did my baby get there though? Aisaka-san was in Team 14, the next ground over."

"Who?" Naruto asked.

"Aisaka Taiga." Kanae replied, "The Genin who bought the blade, along with its mate, Koryū (Tiger Dragon)."

"…isn't that just another way of saying Toradora?" Naruto asked after a moment.

"It is, but that was what Aisaka-san named the blades after cutting her palms with them." Tenten replied. Noting the confusion on Naruto's face, she added, "Sword lore. Shinobi and Samurai, if they're masters of their craft, name their blades after the first time they draw blood with them."

"Ah." Naruto nodded, "So…what should I do here? Should I return it to Aisaka-san since it's hers?"

"After she broke it and abandoned it like this? No!" Tenten said sharply as she cradled the broken weapon as if it was her firstborn.

"An acceptable compromise would be for you to inform Aisaka-san that the blade has been found and that Ten-chan is fixing it." Kanae interjected diplomatically, "Should she wish to retrieve it, she must come here in…three days and explain why she broke it and abandoned it to Ten-chan."

"Err…O…K." Naruto said carefully, "So where can I find Aisaka-san?"

"She got married two months ago, so she moved out of the Aisaka Family compound." Kanae said as she strained to recall details, "Her new husband is…Takasu Ryūji, if I'm remembering correctly. One of her teammates."

"Oh yeah. That's why she bought two tantō." Tenten remembered, "One was for her, one was for her boyfriend. She planned to use Toradora, he was to get Koryū."

"Are they still Genin?" Naruto asked.

"No, Aisaka-san was promoted just after she got the tantō." Kanae replied, "Ryūji-san was promoted during the last Chunin Exams. That was when he proposed to her."

"I'll wander over to their Training Field tomorrow and give 'em your message." Naruto nodded, "I'd better get home. Yamanaka Inoichi-sama and Ino are fixing me up a pair of flowerbeds."

"You like gardening?" Tenten asked in surprise, "You don't seem the type."

"It's my way of relaxing." Naruto shrugged, "Jiji does calligraphy for the same reason."

"Jiji?" Tenten asked in confusion.

"Hokage-Jiji." Naruto replied before he headed out the door.

The bun-haired girl gaped after him. "He calls Hokage-sama 'Jiji'?!"

"From what I hear, the Hokage is his legal guardian." Kanae told her daughter softly, "I would guess that they've developed a relationship similar to grandfather and grandson, especially since Hokage-sama is the closest thing to family Naruto-kun has."

Tenten looked sad then, which was swiftly followed by confusion.

"Why hasn't anybody adopted him though." she asked, "I mean, he seems like a pretty nice kid. A bit informal, but still."

Kanae sighed. "Sadly, some people are just full of spite. Let's leave it at that for now. You should start on fixing Toradora if you want to make the thee day deadline."

"Argh!" Tenten half-screamed, "That's right! My poor baby! Don't worry; Kaa-san's going to fix you up as good as new or better!"

Kanae knew she should be slightly concerned at her daughter cooing at a tantō like it was alive, but she was used to it from her husband, which was who Tenten had learned her love of forging weapons from.
