Chapter 9: 9- First year of the Ninja School
Months passed since I first started attending the Ninja Academy, and over time, I began to realize something. My previous assumptions about improving myself were a bit off. Most of my stats, like strength and agility, seemed to naturally increase as I aged, but there were a few that didn't grow so easily.
Through the system, I discovered that the best stats to allocate my free points to were Mental Strength and Physique. These two stats were incredibly hard to train on their own. Physique, in particular, was tricky. Not only did it increase my overall physical strength, but it also subtly improved the quality of my body, like upgrading my foundation. It was more than just looking stronger; it made every fiber of my being more resilient and capable.
During this time, our classes were filled with basic ninja knowledge—lessons on the "Will of Fire," common ninja tactics, trap-setting, and stealth techniques. Nothing too glamorous yet, but the foundation was being laid. The end of our first year was approaching, and I'd heard whispers that soon we'd begin sparring matches. I wasn't too worried, though. I had trained diligently, putting as much time as I could into improving my physical skills and honing my shurikenjutsu.
Speaking of shuriken throwing, I had gotten to the point where nearly every shot I threw hit dead center. Though, realistically, I wasn't on the level of someone like Itachi Uchiha—not even close. Sure, I could keep training it, but honestly, being a master at shurikenjutsu only takes you so far. The damage shuriken deal is minimal, a tool to stall or distract more than anything else. If I ran out of chakra, I'd use them, but I wasn't too concerned. Thanks to the system, I could directly increase my chakra reserves by adding points to Physique or Mental Strength. So, running out of chakra was a low-priority concern.
Instead, I focused more on physical training—improving my taijutsu and refining my reflexes. I wanted to be strong, and that meant making sure my body and mind were in sync.
In the past few months, I also grew closer to my classmates. Tsunade and I became good friends. She was as competitive as she was playful, always giving me a hard time but in a friendly way. Jiraiya…well, he was a bit of an idiot, but he had a good heart. He'd goof off in class, make inappropriate jokes, and fail miserably at shuriken practice, but he always made us laugh. Orochimaru, though… I tried to get close to him, but he was just too strange, even now. He hadn't gone down his dark path yet, but there was already something unsettling about him. I kept my distance after a while.
In terms of my progress, I ranked near the top of the class, especially in the theoretical aspects of our training. And while that made me proud, it also came with some…unwanted attention. My good looks combined with my top grades had somehow earned me a lot of fangirls. Who knew the kids in the Naruto world were so precocious? Managing them was tough, though. I wasn't exactly a social butterfly in my past life, and dealing with a mob of giggling girls wasn't in my skill set.

It was another typical day in class, and I was already feeling bored out of my mind. We were going over some old lecture on ninja history, something we had already covered. I was sitting next to Tsunade, who was doodling on her notes, clearly just as checked out as I was. Jiraiya was in front of us, leaning back in his chair, pretending to pay attention but obviously daydreaming about something entirely different.
"You think we'll ever use any of this stuff?" I muttered under my breath to Tsunade, glancing at the front of the class where Udo-sensei was droning on about the Second Hokage.
Tsunade rolled her eyes, resting her chin in her hand. "Not likely. You know how it is—half the stuff they teach us is just to pass the time before we get to the fun parts. They won't let us do anything interesting until next year."
I sighed, tapping my pencil against the desk. "I guess. But still, you'd think they could make it a little more exciting."
Tsunade gave a playful smirk. "What, want me to throw a shuriken at Jiraiya to spice things up?"
I stifled a laugh. "As fun as that sounds, I think Udo-sensei would have a stroke."
"Probably worth it." She glanced at Jiraiya, who was now tipping back in his chair dangerously. "He's practically asking for it."
As if on cue, Jiraiya's chair tilted too far back, and he flailed wildly before crashing to the ground with a loud thud. The class burst into laughter, and Udo-sensei shot him a disapproving glare.
Tsunade and I exchanged amused glances, shaking our heads.
After the commotion settled, Tsunade leaned closer to me, her voice lower and a bit hesitant. "Hey, um… you doing anything after class today?"
I blinked, surprised by her sudden question. "Not really, why?"
She looked away for a moment, her cheeks tinged with a faint hint of pink. "Well… if you're free, maybe you could come over to my house? My grandma's been asking to meet you, and… we could practice. You know, sparring or whatever."
Her shy demeanor caught me off guard, but I quickly nodded. "Yeah, sure. That sounds great."
Tsunade smiled, looking a little relieved. "Cool. Just… don't expect me to go easy on you."
I chuckled. "Wouldn't dream of it."
As the class finally wrapped up, I felt a bit more energized. Spending time with Tsunade outside of the academy sounded like fun, and who knew? Maybe it would give me a chance to train harder and improve my skills even further. Plus, the idea of spending more time with her wasn't something I was about to turn down.
