Chapter 36: The Counterfeit Byakugan

"The power of the infrasonic radar still needs to be strengthened."

Sasuke shook his head, visibly dissatisfied with the result. His original idea had been to use the infrasonic waves to electrocute the Golden Gong Fish, but he had only managed to stun a large group of them. The attack power wasn't just weak; it was pathetic.

"Captain, you've been going out to 'have fun' so often lately," Tekudō joked from downstream as he scooped the stunned fish into a wooden barrel. "Is it because you don't have enough money and plan to sell fish to pay for your vices?"

"Tekudō, it seems you're looking for trouble again, aren't you?" Sasuke retorted, kicking the river's surface and splashing a large wave of water in his subordinate's face.

The sudden wave knocked the already burdened Tekudō off balance, and his chakra control failed. With a splash, he fell into the water, shouting in panic.

"Water Style: Water Prison Technique."

Sasuke quickly formed the seals and released a small water prison, which bound the wooden barrel and the scattered fish. He then tossed it all to the shore.

"Ryo, quickly fill this barrel with stones for me."

"Captain, don't!" Tekudō wailed, having just resurfaced.

"Boy, you either lose weight, or you honestly practice staying afloat in this river to improve your chakra control. Your choice."

Under Sasuke's direction, Ryo handed the stone-filled barrel to Tekudō and gestured for him to continue his training. It wasn't just revenge; the boy had genuinely gained a lot of weight lately. I don't understand how these fish can be so fattening, Sasuke mused. Ryo and I have lost weight... it's time to add millet to the diet.

"Captain, what kind of ninjutsu is that?" Ryo asked, his curiosity piqued. "Can it really stun all the fish in the water?" As a clan ninja, he was well-informed, but he had never seen a silent technique that could attack the inside of an object directly. While it seemed less powerful, it would be extremely effective for interrupting an enemy's hand seals.

"This is my Umino family's Secret Shock Release Technique," Sasuke replied, using the excuse of a family secret to hide the truth.

"I see," Ryo nodded, his respect for Sasuke growing even more. So, the captain's ancestors were also ninja. Perhaps they were an extremely reclusive clan during the Warring States Period that has since fallen into decline. His own Inuzuka clan, despite their vast collection of intelligence on other clans, had no records of a "Shock Release." It had to be a secret clan. He didn't ask further; family secret techniques were a taboo subject.

Heh, Sasuke smirked to himself, amused at how easily Ryo had been fooled. There was no such thing as a "Shock Release." It was a new ninjutsu he had developed based on his research into tiger-type summons and his experience with the bats' ultrasonic waves.

He called the new ninjutsu the "Infrasonic Radar Technique," and the previous one, the "Ultrasonic Radar Technique." Both had their own advantages and disadvantages.

The Ultrasonic Radar was characterized by its high precision and strong short-range perception. Its disadvantage was its insufficient penetration, which limited its range through dense media.

The Infrasonic Radar, on the other hand, had low precision, only able to mark approximate locations. But its strength was its extreme penetration and range.

In terms of reconnaissance, the Infrasonic Radar was more practical. It was essentially a diffuse, wide-scale version of a high-purity Byakugan, capable of scanning a radius of up to five kilometers.

The Ultrasonic Radar Technique was like a low-purity Byakugan, perfect for high-precision perception in a smaller range. Its current limit was three kilometers, but at two hundred meters, its perception was completely analogous to the Byakugan: 360 degrees with no blind spots, a complete view of the battlefield.

In other words, for long-range reconnaissance, he would use infrasound; for close-range combat vision, he would use ultrasound. Together, they formed his own "Counterfeit Byakugan."

I finally feel a little safer.

After mastering these two sonic perception ninjutsu, his security had increased dramatically. A five-kilometer area around him was now within his perception range. He could activate the infrasonic radar from time to time to detect if any ninja were entering his zone. While it would only serve as an early warning beyond three kilometers, that was more than enough. If he needed to identify the target, he could then switch to the ultrasonic radar for a more precise view.
