Chapter 58: Property Recovery
Initially, Sasuke had interacted with Might Duy with a purely utilitarian mindset, hoping to befriend the future father of Konoha's "Strongest Genin" and perhaps learn something about the Eight Gates. But after spending time together, they became good friends. Duy was overly enthusiastic and treated people with a sincerity that often disarmed him.
"Sasuke, your matter is more urgent. I have to go to the logistics department to unload supplies later; that will cover my food for tomorrow," Duy insisted.
"You really gave me all your money," Sasuke said, smiling bitterly. He didn't know how to deal with his stupid brother's kindness.
"The money they give for unloading is getting less and less. I've only saved this much this month," Duy said, his usual optimism tinged for a moment with worry.
Sasuke, not wanting to worry him, lied. "I just need these 2,355 ryo. Your money came at the perfect time." He folded the crumpled bills and carefully put them in his pouch.
"Great!" Duy immediately cheered.
"Duy, if you don't have enough food, how will you have strength? Here, this is for you." Sasuke took out fifty kilograms of salted dried fish from a scroll. Knowing Duy, he knew he couldn't keep more. Despite his strength, Duy was a bit out of tune with this cruel world. That's why he kept doing the hardest, lowest-paying work. Sasuke had no intention of helping him change jobs; although it was hard, at least it was safe.
"Well, I have something else to do. We'll talk later." Sasuke didn't give Duy a chance to refuse and headed to the logistics building. Duy wanted to catch up, but seeing the magnificent lobby, he stopped, self-conscious about his ragged clothes and sweaty smell.
At that moment, a small butler saw him. "Might Duy, slacking off again! Don't you want to work anymore?" he shouted at him.
"Master Tsuna, I just came to see a friend on my break."
"An Eternal Genin like you, what friends could you have? Do you want me to deduct your entire day's salary?"
Upon hearing that, Duy grabbed the bag of fish and ran towards the back door. The butler, who was about to continue scolding him, suddenly felt a sharp pang of pain in his head, so intense he almost fainted. He staggered, disoriented, with no idea what had hit him.
Inside, Sasuke went directly to the second floor, where he found Mitokado Takashi.
"What? You said someone already paid off my ninja loan?"
"It was the eldest son of the Gekko family who helped you pay it off."
"It was Ye," Sasuke whispered, truly surprised. The Gekko were a minor clan; 1.5 million ryo was a considerable sum for them.
"I didn't expect you to be friends with Ye," Takashi said, jealousy in his gaze. A genius like Ye, friends with this vulgar outcast? It's unheard of.
After confirming the debt was settled, Sasuke feigned hesitation. "So, this large sum of money I borrowed... was it in vain?"
"No, no," Takashi quickly said. "Since you have it, how about I help you exchange it all for merit points?"
"Great, I urgently need some points."
Then, Sasuke told him that Torifune had taught him the Shadow Clone Technique and that he needed to return the points, and that he also wanted to exchange for the Wind Release development scroll.
"Hahaha! See? Merit points are always scarce. Sasuke, how much money did you get?"
"I want to exchange the 1.5 million ryo I just borrowed."
"What? You really got that much!" Takashi was stunned. He thought a common chunin would be lucky to get 100,000. But it didn't matter. As long as the money was borrowed, it had to be repaid.
Takashi used his privilege to complete the exchange procedures as soon as possible. Sasuke left the office with a large number of scrolls and vouchers, but he didn't go far. He activated his perception technique to eavesdrop.
As soon as Takashi closed the door, he entered the secret room, where Kagejiro was waiting for him.
"Kagejiro, leak some information to Sunagakure. Let them help you kill him."
"No, it's too easy for him to die like that," Kagejiro replied with venom in his voice. "His family must be destroyed. I don't just want him to die; I want him to default on the ninja loan and have his entire family go to hell with him. Brother Takashi, do you know how I've lived these past few days? Being a sentinel is hell! I swear I won't be human if I don't get his entire family buried with him! You'll definitely help me, won't you?"
