Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Obito Appears
As usual, Uchiha Ryosuke arrived at the small forest early in the morning to begin his daily training.
To him, if a day passed without any stat growth, it felt like a wasted day.
He started off with his regular routine—a 20-kilometer run.
But just as he began running, on the branch of a large tree in the woods, a spiraling distortion of space appeared, revealing a man in a red cloud-patterned cloak and wearing an orange spiral mask.
The moment the masked man appeared and glanced at the surrounding scenery, he murmured:
"Konoha... it's been a long time."
The last time he was here, he had successfully extracted the Nine-Tails, and in a fit of rage, tried to destroy Konoha. Unfortunately, he was stopped by his former sensei—Minato Namikaze.
This time, though, he hadn't come for the Nine-Tails.
He had come for Sharingan eyes.
Over the past few years, he had been combing through the writings left behind by Uchiha Madara in the mountainside graveyard. From those texts, he learned of a fearsome, "invincible" dojutsu technique of the Uchiha: Izanagi.
A forbidden Sharingan technique, Izanagi allowed its user to rewrite reality for a short period of time. Any unfavorable event—such as death—could be rewritten as if it never happened, while only favorable outcomes would remain real. The downside? Permanent blindness in the eye used to cast it.
Despite possessing Kamui, his own space-time ability, Obito wasn't truly invincible. The last time he tried to destroy Konoha, he'd been injured by Minato, proving that point.
But if he could acquire Izanagi, even his cunning sensei wouldn't stand a chance against him.
Though some of Madara's preserved Sharingan were still in his possession, he was running out.
He needed to restock—and where better than from the source: the Uchiha clan.
Unfortunately, most strong Uchiha didn't leave the village often and were mostly stationed within the Konoha Police Force. That made it harder to ambush them.
Still, even in the heart of Konoha, he didn't feel threatened.
After all, he had Kamui, an ability that rendered him untouchable.
The only question was how to start collecting more eyes—ideally from isolated targets.
Just as he was thinking about that, he saw someone jogging along the path toward him.
A sturdy frame, a distinct spiky hairstyle—he immediately recognized the figure as an Uchiha clansman.
He smirked inwardly.
"What luck. Just got here and already found a target."
The man seemed to be practicing taijutsu. Strange—but it didn't matter.
Once he was absorbed into the Kamui dimension, he could extract the Sharingan at his leisure.
And of course, the target wouldn't live to tell the tale. Leaving witnesses would be far too risky.
At that moment, Ryosuke abruptly halted mid-run.
He felt… a presence.
He looked up—and his pupils contracted in shock.
That orange spiral-pattern mask.
The single Sharingan eye visible through the eyehole.
"That's... Uchiha Obito."
Others might not recognize him, but Ryosuke, having the knowledge of both worlds, recognized him immediately.
And the sense of crisis surged within him.
If I get hit by Kamui and pulled into his dimension, it's over.
He had no intention of trying to talk him down.
This wasn't someone that even Naruto the King of Talk-no-Jutsu could reason with.
Obito was already deeply broken by Rin's death—willing to kill even his own sensei and sensei's wife without hesitation.
What puzzled Ryosuke was why Obito would target him.
But before he could think further, Obito jumped down from the tree and landed smoothly in front of him, approaching slowly.
"You've awakened your Sharingan, haven't you?" Obito asked.
He could feel the potent chakra rolling off Ryosuke's body—no one that powerful wouldn't have unlocked their Sharingan.
Ryosuke activated his Three-Tomoe Sharingan on the spot, preparing for combat.
So he was here to collect Sharingan…
In the ninja world, two people were known for hoarding Sharingan: Uchiha Obito and Shimura Danzo.
Why? Because Izanagi consumes a Sharingan each time it's cast—so they stockpiled them.
Ryosuke's suspicions were confirmed: Obito had come for his eyes.
Right now, his base strength was at half-Kage level, but if he activated Eight Gates, he might be able to kill Obito.
For now, he needed to stall for time and create an opening.
"Who are you? What do you want from me?" Ryosuke asked coldly.
Obito looked into his scarlet Sharingan and chuckled.
"Very nice… a full Three-Tomoe Sharingan."
"As for who I am—dead men don't need to know."
"And my purpose is simple—your eyes."
Now, Obito's strategy was simple: provoke Ryosuke into attacking, use Kamui's intangibility to let the attack pass through, then materialize just long enough to suck him into Kamui's dimension.
Once inside, Ryosuke would pass out—and then, well, he'd be easy prey.
Ryosuke's face darkened. So he was after his eyes.
No more talk.
He rapidly formed hand seals:
"Serpent → Ram → Monkey → Boar → Horse → Tiger!"
With chakra surging to his lungs, his chest puffed out as he released a Great Fireball Jutsu, the size of a small house, straight toward Obito.
Obito raised an eyebrow.
"That's quite the powerful Great Fireball Jutsu… too bad it's useless."
Kamui: Phase Shift (intangibility).
The massive fireball passed right through his body and exploded behind him, scorching the ground black—but not even slightly singeing the masked man.
