Naruto: Transmigrated as Obito with the System

Chapter 143: Chapter 143: +1 Member

Obito grumbled in his mind.

"Seriously, System Bro? Just a few days of silence and you're already this washed up?"

[System]: "…(Baby's having a rough time)."

As a fledgling system still trying to get on its feet, the System had a pitiful roster of contractors.

Every one of its hosts was still in the "training arc" phase and lacked the ability to debut properly.

In other words, not a single one could earn big money yet.

No money, no power—no influence across dimensions.

The System let out a small "ding" and said:

"╯^╰ This System being so lame? Yeah, that's on you and every one of my hosts!"

Obito sighed.

"Okay, okay. Fine. You win. Now, let's shelve this conversation for now."

Since pretending to join the Cult of Jashin was out of the question, it was time to switch gears and start bluffing.

"Oi, hey there, buddy!"

Hidan waved a hand in front of Obito, annoyed by his prolonged silence.

"So, have you made up your mind yet? Are you joining or not?"

Obito offered a charming smile.

"The teachings of the Jashin are... intriguing. Let me think about it carefully."

"How about this—why don't you join my organization first? We can have a proper chat when we have more time."

Hidan nodded instinctively.

"Sure, sure... Wait a damn second!"

Realizing something was off, Hidan raised his scythe and pressed it to Obito's neck.

"Hey! I'm the one recruiting you here! What kind of scam is this, trying to flip the script and recruit me?!"

Obito shrugged.

"You do your recruiting, I do mine. No conflicts of interest, right?"

Hidan spat on the ground in frustration.

"Like hell I'd join your lousy group! My sacred mission is to spread Jashin-sama's teachings!"

His patience was wearing thin, and his expression darkened. The scythe in his hand twitched as if preparing to strike.

"Relax, relax," Obito said, raising his hands in a placating gesture. "Hear me out first, okay? Our operations won't interfere with each other in the slightest."

Hidan scratched his slicked-back hair, suspicious but curious.

"Oh?"

Obito spread his arms dramatically, his tone laden with fervor.

"The Yoru Organization is a collective of killers and arsonists—a war machine of unparalleled infamy. We're an ensemble of villains through and through.

"Here, you'll find comrades who share your worldview. Here, your talents will shine as brightly as they deserve.

"Our slogan? 'Grow big, aim high, and achieve glory.' Join us, and I promise you'll refine your skills to perfection."

Hidan hesitated. He wasn't completely sold, but the pitch was compelling.

If nothing else, just learning how to talk like this guy could work wonders for his own recruitment efforts.

Sensing Hidan's wavering resolve, Obito pressed on.

"Relax—joining us won't hinder your usual preaching. You'll still be able to serve Jashin-sama, no problem."

After a moment, Hidan lowered his scythe, a sign that he was convinced.

"Fine, fine. This great Hidan will join your organization."

Obito smiled and extended his hand.

"Excellent. Looking forward to our cooperation."

Hidan shook his hand but couldn't suppress his curiosity.

"By the way, how many members does your group have right now?"

Obito chuckled.

"You're the first member of the Yoru Organization. Doesn't that make you feel honored?"

Hidan nodded instinctively.

"Yeah, it does feel—hold on a second!"

His voice shot up an octave.

"So you're saying… I'm the only one in this group?!"

Obito coughed awkwardly.

"Ahem. It's just temporary. Don't worry—I'll find you some teammates soon."

"..."

Hidan felt thoroughly scammed.

Where were the like-minded comrades?

Where was the grand ambition to grow and flourish?

It turned out the entire organization consisted of… just him.

"I swear to Jashin-sama…" Hidan muttered through gritted teeth.

Obito patted Hidan on the shoulder, trying to reassure him.

"Alright, alright. Keep preaching here for now. I'll contact you if anything comes up."

Hidan shot Obito a sharp glare.

"Tch. You'd better find me some teammates fast, or I'll carve you up myself."

Obito waved him off nonchalantly.

"Sure, sure. I got it."

What an insufferable guy, Obito thought.

If it weren't for needing to recruit someone, I'd have taken his head already.

With that, Obito strode past Hidan and continued toward Yugakure.

...

A Dark Alleyway

Shisui examined the grimy wall, where a hidden black symbol was etched faintly. His eyes lit up with excitement.

"Finally found it!"

Quickening his pace, he followed the markings until a dilapidated temple came into view.

Inside, he discovered a concealed passageway behind the central Buddha statue.

Navigating the narrow tunnel, he arrived at a local exchange point.

The usual protocol required verification of his identity before obtaining any intel. But Shisui's crimson Sharingan made short work of the staff's willpower.

"I need all available information on Terumī Mei," he ordered.

The staffer's glazed eyes responded robotically.

"Terumī Mei… bounty: 45 million ryō. Last sighting: seven days ago, in southern Yugakure territory."

Shisui nodded slightly before asking, "What about Uchiha Obito?"

"Uchiha Obito… bounty: 70 million ryō. Current whereabouts unknown."

Seventy million?!

Shisui's eyes widened in surprise.

What on earth had his cousin done to rack up such a staggering bounty?

By comparison, his own 30 million ryō bounty seemed almost trivial.

Shisui shook his head, erasing the staffer's memory before leaving the exchange.

...

Outside Yugakure

Obito stretched lazily, muttering to himself.

"Didn't expect to stumble onto a lead like this."

Reports from Yugakure hinted that several skilled Water Release users had been spotted in the western region about ten days ago.

"Hmm, three days have passed since our agreed rendezvous. Time to regroup with my dear cousin."

With a crimson gleam in his eye, Obito slipped into the Kamui dimension.

"Whoosh!"

Arriving at the entrance to the hot springs, he found Shisui already waiting.

"Shisui! I've got some intel. How about we discuss it while soaking—"

Shisui interrupted him with a serious expression.

"Every second counts. We don't have time for distractions."

"I've gathered some intel too. Let's combine our findings and zero in on our target."

Obito sighed in mild disappointment.

"Fine, fine. Let's get to it."

In the Kamui dimension, the two Uchiha pored over a map of Yugakure, merging their intelligence.

"..."

"..."

Shisui pointed to a specific spot on the map.

"If my calculations are correct, they'll likely pass through here."

Obito mulled it over but couldn't quite grasp Shisui's reasoning.

Feigning understanding, he nodded.

"Exactly what I was thinking. Let's head there."

"Hopefully, we'll finally catch up with our target—Terumī Mei."
