Chapter 20: Chapter 020: The Sage’s Chakra Strikes Back
"Hiss... Bugs that feed on the host's chakra?"
Orochimaru's snake-like tongue flicked across his lips, an eerie smile curling on his face. "In that case, even if you escape with a space-time technique like the Flying Thunder God Technique, the bugs that have devoured your chakra will still follow you."
He tilted his head slightly, eyes gleaming with curiosity. "Even Flying Thunder God cannot get rid of insects that burrow into the very muscle and blood. Impressive… this is the elite of Root. The Aburame clan's secret technique truly lives up to its name."
Aburame Tatsuma shifted slightly, his glasses hiding any trace of emotion. He glanced at Orochimaru, then turned his gaze to Yun, voice steady: "No matter how you acquired the Flying Thunder God Technique, even if you were the Fourth Hokage himself—if you dare attack Danzo-sama, you will not leave here alive."
*Puff*
It was only then that Orochimaru nonchalantly pulled the Flying Thunder God kunai from his chest—the same one that had been embedded earlier. After examining the intricate formula etched into the metal, he tossed it aside like trash.
Then, his jaw unhinged in that grotesque fashion unique to him. His throat bulged unnaturally as a new Orochimaru slithered from within the discarded skin of the old body.
"'Sora'...?" The newly emerged Orochimaru murmured, fascinated. "There doesn't seem to be any operative by that name in the Anbu under the Fourth Hokage. How curious…"
Danzo, who had remained statuesque until now, finally turned. With a slight lift of his hand, he signaled for Tatsuma to halt the expansion of the parasitic insects inside Yun.
"Regardless of whether you're from the Fourth Hokage or not." Danzo began, his tone calm yet threatening as he raised his chin slightly, "You now have two choices."
His words were quiet, but filled with condescension—like a man who believed he had already won.
"Join Root. Become Konoha's hidden power in the shadows. In that case... I will overlook what transpired here today."
He didn't need to mention the other choice. It was clear to everyone in the room—death.
Nono, who had dodged earlier and kept her distance, narrowed her eyes. She couldn't sense any allegiance from this man claiming to help her. He didn't feel like a shinobi from Konoha. His chakra, his stance... it was foreign, and far too calm amidst Root's most dangerous operatives.
"Tsk..."
Uzumaki Sora let out a scoffing chuckle. "You really think you've won, huh? The Aburame clan's insects are indeed formidable, but... my chakra is not so easily consumed. Especially when it's fused with something special."
As his voice fell, the muscle on his left arm split open with a sickening crack, blood trailing down his forearm. From within the torn flesh, three bloated insects dropped to the ground, twitching violently.
*Plop. Plop. Plop.*
Though swollen, they hadn't exploded his arm. Instead—
*Puff!*
A sharp spike burst from one of the insects, piercing outward like a sea urchin made of hardened wood.
"Wood-style…"
Danzo's eyes widened. His previously composed demeanor faltered for the first time. Only those who had once witnessed the might of Senju Hashirama could understand the reverence—and obsession—that came with Wood-style.
They all stared in disbelief.
But what none of them knew was that true Wood-style—that of the First Hokage—was more than just an advanced nature transformation. It was tied to the vitality of the Sage Body and the immense chakra granted by Asura's lineage.
Without Asura's chakra, Hashirama himself might never have awakened such unparalleled power.
"Hmph... A user of Wood-style outside the Senju lineage? And from the Uzumaki clan, no less…" Orochimaru's voice trembled with unfiltered greed. "You've just ignited my deepest curiosity, Sora…"
But Sora—Yun—only gave him a sideways glance. His eyes flicked down to the discarded flesh suit Orochimaru had shed moments ago, the Flying Thunder God formula still faintly glowing on it.
So that's how he escapes death—over and over again. Truly a cockroach that transcends mortality.
But...
*Shua!*
In an instant, Sora vanished.
When he reappeared, he was behind Aburame Tatsuma, his kunai already pressed to the man's throat. In one clean motion, he slit it open. Blood sprayed as the Root elite stood frozen.
The Flying Thunder God seal had been imprinted on the stump of Tatsuma's severed arm earlier—during their brief exchange.
"You planted a Great Worm in my body upon contact," Sora muttered, holding the kunai loosely, "and I planted a teleportation seal on yours. You should know… even space-time techniques aren't so easily purged."
*Bang!*
Tatsuma collapsed to the ground, lifeless. The Flying Thunder God technique had already sealed his fate the moment their chakras intertwined.
And the Great Worm?
Sora sneered. "The chakra from a Sage Body… is not something your insects can digest. Root's experiments produced only one Kinoe (Yamato's Root name) that could barely handle it. That should tell you enough."
He turned slowly to Orochimaru.
"I have no interest in you. My target is Danzo. But if you interfere, next time... I won't hold back."
Orochimaru chuckled, stepping over Tatsuma's corpse. "Since the day I was named one of the Legendary Sannin, I haven't heard such brazen threats. Sora, do you truly have the power to kill me?"
Beside them, Danzo stood. His fingers clenched tightly.
"I haven't fought in many years." he said, his voice low. "But it seems too many have forgotten—I was once a shinobi."
Wind-style ∙ Vacuum Wave!
A sudden gust erupted from Danzo's mouth, slicing the air with blade-like wind in the shape of a sickle.
*Swish!*
Sora teleported using Flying Thunder God, vanishing before impact. But—
Wind-style ∙ Vacuum Wave!
Another wave came—this time in a spread pattern—sickle-shaped wind projectiles rushing toward the coordinates of Sora's teleportation.
"Orochimaru!"
Danzo barked sharply. The snake Sannin understood immediately.
Hidden Shadow Snake Hands!
From his sleeves, several serpents slithered out and wrapped around the scattered Flying Thunder God kunai, preventing teleportation.
*Boom!*
*Crack!*
The next wave of wind blades crashed into the building, sending stone and flame bursting from the side of the orphanage. Sora reappeared mid-air, deflecting with a kunai, but the force hurled him across the field.
Even with the Flying Thunder God, it was arrogant to take on both Danzo and Orochimaru at once.
If it weren't for the vitality of the Sage Body, the previous attack might have ended him.
The room was too small. The Flying Thunder God's true advantage—instant mobility—couldn't be utilized properly.
*Swish!*
He threw more than a dozen kunai into the surrounding area, expanding the battlefield.
Danzo's brows furrowed. He'd realized the weakness of confined space.
"This is why the Fourth earned the name 'Konoha's Yellow Flash.'" Danzo muttered. "With Flying Thunder God and Rasengan, even the fastest couldn't react."
*Swish!*
Fire-style ∙ Great Fire Dragon Technique!
Sora reappeared behind Danzo, forming a seal with one hand and breathing out a colossal fire dragon that roared forward.
Summoning: Triple Rashōmon!
*Boom!*
Three massive demonic gates crashed into the earth, shielding Danzo from the inferno.
Orochimaru stepped beside him, eyes narrowed. "We're too close to Konoha. The explosion from earlier definitely caught the Fourth's attention. If you use Wood-style here..."
Danzo hesitated, hand half-unwrapping the bandages on his right arm. Inside, the three-tomoe Sharingan stared back.
He stopped.
Sora, sensing chakra signatures with the enhanced perception of the Sage Body, knew others were approaching.
*Shua!*
He appeared beside Nono in a flash.
"I'm not fully adjusted to this new power yet. I'll have to spare Danzo—for now." he said. "But the Fourth's Anbu are closing in. Find one named Hatake Kakashi. Explain everything to him. He'll help."
Nono blinked, stunned.
"Danzo's influence in Konoha is slipping." Sora added. "The Third Hokage and Fourth Hokage both keep him in check. He's not even allowed at the real negotiation table anymore."
His lips curled slightly.
"So don't throw your life away in vain. Oh, and—tell Kabuto… his friend kept his promise."
*Swish!*
He vanished once more, leaving behind only the scent of scorched wood and shattered ambition.
