Chapter 125: Chapter 125
Chapter 125
Some of the ninja who knew the inside story listened quietly.
Lady Tsunade is currently traveling and can't be reached.
If she were willing to come, not only would the Hokage ask her, but even Orochimaru would surely invite her back.
Haneda, Sakumo, and the Nara Clan Chief were aware of more details.
The fact was that Tsunade had developed hemophobia, making her unable to perform medical work.
As the Nara Clan Chief pondered how Sakumo would respond, Sakumo said:
"Let Haneda lead a team to invite Tsunade."
???
Haneda was baffled. He's supposed to invite Tsunade?
What a joke!
If Tsunade was willing to return, she'd have come already!
Forget about Orochimaru—Jiraiya, the people-pleaser, was certainly sent by the Third Hokage to invite her!
Suddenly, Haneda realized something and looked over at Sakumo.
From Sakumo's slight smile, Haneda understood.
"Alright, I'll take Asuma and Kurenai to invite Lady Tsunade!" Haneda accepted the mission.
He realized that this was Sakumo's way of protecting his students.
Tsunade probably wasn't roaming too far and certainly wouldn't be in enemy territory.
This assignment would keep Haneda and his team away from the fiercest fighting, possibly even out of the war entirely.
Given Haneda and Asuma's backgrounds, the Third Hokage would have no objections.
The reason was justifiable enough that as long as they weren't blatantly slacking off, other ninjas wouldn't mind either.
Sakumo then explained:
"Haneda has met with Tsunade multiple times, and she has a favorable impression of him. With him leading, there's a better chance Tsunade might agree to come."
The Nara Clan Chief's skeptical look slowly faded.
He recalled how Tsunade had once treated Haneda and had even defended him fiercely against Elder Danzo five years ago.
While the chances of Haneda succeeding were slim, it was still worth trying.
"Uchiha Haneda could be a feasible option," the Nara Clan Chief agreed.
With the endorsement of the Nara Clan's intelligence and Haneda's demonstrated strength, no one in the room objected.
Thus, the mission to invite Tsunade was officially given to Haneda.
…
Leaving the meeting room, Haneda returned to his tent.
Asuma had already made up the bed for his respected Haneda-nii-san, smoothing the sheets without a single wrinkle.
The blanket was even folded into a neat square.
Hearing the familiar footsteps, he opened the tent flap and called out:
"You're back, Haneda-nii-san. Look at how I set up—"
Before Asuma could finish, Haneda interrupted:
"Get ready to head out for a mission, Asuma."
"Huh? We just got to the camp! Sakumo-sensei is so unreasonable!" Asuma grumbled in frustration.
He had just made the bed and folded the blanket, only to find out they had to leave without even letting Haneda see it…
"This mission is for our benefit, Asuma."
"Don't complain about Sakumo-sensei; he's looking out for us, and this mission is actually important," Haneda explained.
"What kind of mission is it, Haneda?" Kurenai asked, stepping out from another part of the tent.
Haneda replied, "Simply put, we're going to the Land of Hot Water to invite Lady Tsunade to return."
"Lady Tsunade?!"
Asuma and Kurenai froze upon hearing her name.
Who is Lady Tsunade?
She's one of the legendary Sannin, incredibly powerful and the greatest medical ninja!
In the field of medical ninjutsu, Lady Tsunade is practically a saint.
Haneda continued, "Konoha holds a strategic advantage against Sunagakure, but their poisons are causing us serious trouble."
"Sakumo-sensei sent us to ask Lady Tsunade to help prevent more comrades from dying from poison."
Haneda didn't mention Sakumo's other reason for sending them to the Land of Hot Water, sparing Asuma from confronting him and causing internal tension.
Asuma, recalling some things he'd heard about Tsunade from his father, worriedly said:
"Haneda-nii-san! Do you think we can do this?"
"Lady Tsunade… has a bit of a temper. I've heard she'll slam a door as soon as she enters the office!"
"She also doesn't like being summoned; even my dad can't control her."
Haneda was aware of Tsunade's temper and doubted their chances.
Even though he had a decent relationship with her, he wasn't her brother, Nawaki, nor Naruto.
"This is a mission. Just follow through on the task," Haneda replied concisely.
He figured he could train with Wood Release along the way to the Land of Hot Water.
Given the low probability of success, he wouldn't be wasting any time.
As for Tsunade, anyone else was welcome to deal with her attitude after he tried once.
Hearing such a confident response, Asuma almost smacked himself.
Haneda-nii-san had already used his "talk no jutsu" to reason with Kakashi and defend Sakumo-sensei from gossip!
With all that experience, Haneda-nii-san was sure to succeed!
Asuma smiled confidently and said:
"Even if Lady Tsunade dislikes my dad, the elders, and the downright evil Danzo, she's still the granddaughter of the First Hokage who built Konoha!"
"With Haneda-nii-san's heart-to-heart persuasion, it's bound to work!"
???
Haneda looked at Asuma in confusion. He had no real expectations for this mission.
'Why was Asuma so confident in him?!'
Haneda thought, "I'm not exactly a master of persuasion!"
Minato and Kushina would have a better chance than him.
Kurenai, sensing Haneda's discomfort, told Asuma:
"Let's pack up and prepare to leave with Haneda."
"Got it!" Asuma replied, smiling. After a few steps, he turned back to Haneda and said,
"Oh, by the way, Haneda-nii-san, I've already made your bed."
"Thanks," Haneda said softly.
Hearing that, Asuma became even more excited and sped up his preparations.
He couldn't wait to join Haneda-nii-san on a mission to the Land of Hot Water.
Thinking about witnessing Haneda-nii-san's persuasion skills with Lady Tsunade, Asuma felt even more thrilled.
With Tsunade returning to face Chiyo of Sunagakure, it would become a legendary moment in Konoha's war history!
Haneda had a vague idea of Asuma's unshakable confidence in him but didn't dwell on it.
He pulled back the tent flap and stepped into his room.
Noticing the blanket folded into a perfect square and the sheets smoothed with incredible precision, Haneda couldn't help but smile slightly.
Asuma was a bit foolish, but he was serious in his work.
Especially when it came to friends, in that regard.
…
In the meeting room, with only Sakumo and the Nara Clan Chief left, everyone else had dispersed.
The Nara Clan Chief asked, "Lord Sakumo, do you really believe Uchiha Haneda can bring back Lady Tsunade?"
"Highly unlikely. But does that matter?" Sakumo replied.
The Nara Clan Chief thought about Haneda's importance in strengthening ties with the Uchiha and Asuma's lineage, realizing Sakuko's true intentions.
The mission's success was nearly impossible.
But the mission takers were more important than the mission itself.
This wasn't just Sakumo's official decision but also his personal wish.
