Chapter 332: Black Zetsu: Is Haneda Being Too Careful?!
Haneda said, "Just as you guessed, it's related to the Tenseigan on the moon."
"I've already begun to harness the power of the Tenseigan, but it's far from complete."
"You understand, don't you? I want full mastery over it—to make it truly my own."
Kakashi asked, "So, you've come up with a new plan?"
Haneda nodded. "I know of a secret technique called the Chimera Jutsu. It forcibly merges a ninja and a summoned beast."
"The Chimera Jutsu is somewhat similar to my ocular ability, the All-Creation Absorption. It might be helpful in assimilating the Tenseigan's power into me."
"The one who knows this technique is Hiruko. He's currently with the Akatsuki and can likely be found in Amegakure."
"But Hiruko's teammate is Sasori of the Red Sand. Sasori is extremely wary of me and would never agree to meet with me willingly."
"That's where you come in. I need you to search for him discreetly while I approach openly. This way, if either of us encounters him, we can capture him smoothly."
Kakashi asked, "Are you planning to demand Hiruko from the Akatsuki leader Pain? Just take him by force?"
Haneda corrected, "Exchange! It's an exchange, not a robbery! Since when do ninja negotiations count as theft?"
Kakashi chuckled. Knowing Haneda's personality, an "exchange" with Hiruko would likely look indistinguishable from outright taking him.
"Forget it, Haneda. I've been busy mastering the secret techniques my father left behind. Going to the Land of Rain will take up too much time."
Haneda gave Kakashi a surprised look. It was rare for Kakashi to refuse him outright.
"What if I order you as the Hokage?" Haneda tried.
Kakashi refused again, "I'm a jonin. I have the right to decline. Besides, I'm currently on leave; not even the Hokage can make unreasonable demands."
Haneda pretended to be heartbroken, shedding crocodile tears. "You've changed, Kakashi!"
Kakashi responded calmly, "I just think you can handle this on your own. And if you need someone, Shisui or Itachi would be more effective than taking me along."
"Honestly, Shisui and Itachi are far more capable than I am in this type of work. Besides, I want to grow stronger so that the next time I face Obito, I can at least land a blow on him. Last time, I was completely outmatched."
Seeing Kakashi's resolute expression, Haneda realized he was serious.
Kakashi now had a clear goal driving him forward, something he had lacked before. His motivation and determination to train had grown stronger.
Haneda decided to play his trump card. "Madara is part of the Akatsuki too."
"Obito?"
"Mm." Haneda nodded. "That's right, Obito is one of the founders of the second Akatsuki and serves as its shadow leader."
Kakashi's eyes flashed with shock.
Obito wasn't just the puppet master behind Kirigakure; he was also the mastermind behind the Akatsuki?!
The Akatsuki's members were at least on the level of elite jonin, each possessing unique and formidable abilities.
Apart from Zabuza and Zetsu, every member could rival a Kage in power!
How had the so-called "dead last" become so strong and influential?
Ten years ago, Obito had been an unremarkable genin who couldn't even pass the Chunin Exams!
Kakashi looked doubtful. "Is that really true?"
"Would I lie to you about something like this?" Haneda countered.
Kakashi took a deep breath, a mix of shock and awe in his expression.
"Even Obito, that so-called dead last, has made a name for himself. Whether in power or influence, he's almost on par with you now."
"Just average," Haneda said modestly, waving it off. "You're not doing so badly yourself."
Then, remembering the matter at hand, he quickly asked, "So, will you come with me to the Land of Rain?"
Kakashi didn't hesitate. "Consider it a reconnaissance mission."
…
Meanwhile, at the Naka River.
A pitch-black, liquid-like entity slowly emerged from the underground cavern housing the portal to the moon.
It bore a human-like face, its pale yellow eyes exuding an eerie presence.
The figure was none other than Black Zetsu, the hidden manipulator of the ninja world.
Since Haneda had left Kirigakure, Black Zetsu had been secretly tailing him.
When Kaguya Otsutsuki's chakra briefly resurfaced, Black Zetsu became certain it was connected to Haneda.
It immediately arranged for White Zetsu to investigate Toneri Otsutsuki while it continued shadowing Haneda to gather more information.
Tracking Haneda, however, was a monumental challenge.
Haneda frequently used the Flying Thunder God technique to travel, often losing Black Zetsu in the process and causing it no small amount of frustration.
Fortunately, after trailing Haneda for a while, Black Zetsu had grown attuned to his chakra signature.
Just last night, it detected a faint trace of Haneda's chakra left near the Naka River, allowing it to pinpoint this location.
As Black Zetsu gazed at the altar-like seal in the center of the cavern, it fell into deep thought.
How could it break in?
Moving closer, it noticed a kunai embedded in the ground—one marked with Haneda's Flying Thunder God seal.
The moment Black Zetsu touched it, the seal reacted.
In an instant, Haneda appeared.
Activating his Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, Haneda scanned his surroundings but found no trace of an intruder.
His brows furrowed.
The Hyuga clan's ancestral shrine, buried underground for centuries, was completely sealed off. Not even insects could enter. How had his seal been triggered without reason?
At that moment, Kakashi arrived and asked, "What's wrong, Haneda?"
"Someone tampered with my seal," Haneda replied.
"Who?"
"I can't confirm yet, but I have a suspect in mind."
Of course, Haneda's suspect was Black Zetsu.
Whenever he couldn't find evidence or identify the culprit, Haneda's go-to assumption was always Danzo or Black Zetsu.
Now that Danzo was dead, that left only Black Zetsu. Haneda was almost certain it was responsible.
Only Black Zetsu could infiltrate this place undetected, tamper with his seal, and leave without a trace.
Suddenly, Haneda said, "Kakashi, step back. Better yet, return to Konoha."
Kakashi frowned. "What are you planning to do?"
"Destroy this place."
"???"
Under Kakashi's bewildered gaze, Haneda raised his hand. A white bolt of lightning surged forth, connecting the underground cavern to the surface.
Sunlight poured in, illuminating the area.
At the same time, the previously clear sky darkened as ominous storm clouds gathered.
Golden lightning crackled across the blackened sky.
Sensing the immense chakra in the atmosphere, Kakashi's eyes widened in shock.
Haneda's ocular power had grown even stronger. He had used his dojutsu, Ame-no-Murakumo, to summon such a massive storm!
"You really should get out of here, Kakashi," Haneda warned, pointing to the sky.
Kakashi hesitated but eventually nodded. "If you destroy the spatial portal, how will you reach the moon again, Haneda?"
"I've tested it. My chakra is powerful enough to use the Flying Thunder God seal to teleport to the moon directly."
Hearing this, Kakashi stopped arguing and teleported back to Konoha using Flying Thunder God.
The moment Kakashi left, golden lightning began to converge in the storm above.
"Ten Directions Oblivion!"
At Haneda's command, hundreds of golden bolts of lightning, shaped like swords, rained down, obliterating everything in the area.
Haneda had destroyed the site based on mere suspicion!
After Haneda left, Black Zetsu emerged from the ground, grumbling angrily.
It had expended considerable effort to follow Haneda, only to end up with nothing to show for it—and on top of that, it got struck by lightning.
"Is this brat Haneda being overly cautious or what?!"
