Naruto: Wolf of the Hidden Leaf

Chapter 16: Team 03 (I)

The next week was quite hectic for me. I trained in medical ninjutsu every night in the hospital and in the morning I had sessions with Asuma for weapons training. Hiruzen had conveniently forgotten that he had meetings regarding budget decisions with the Fire Damiyo. So he sent Asuma in his stead to give me appropriate weapons training.

It was weird to see Asuma without his beard. Otherwise, he was an excellent teacher by himself. He was going to teach me how to infuse chakra with my sword. It didn't take much time for me to infuse my sword with raw chakra due to how precise the chakra control I already had.

But using a specific elemental chakra was a bit different and much harder. Asuma uses his wind chakra to increase the cutting power of his Chakra Blade. This is where I was reminded of how versatile the water affinity actually is. I mean I've seen many documentaries about how water jets are used to cut diamonds even. So, following the same principle I should also be able to practically cut anything if I can generate high enough water pressure. More so because of how chakra can amplify the effect of the attack.

But to use it to the fullest potential, I needed to build up pressure and exert it in an instant. Something like unsheathing my sword at extremely fast speed after building up the water pressure inside the sheath. And this is where I found myself in a weird problem.

I wasn't tall enough to actually keep the sword hung on my waist. I needed to keep it on my back. And that in turn diminished the purpose of using the water affinity chakra.

So yeah, I needed to hit my growth spurt to actually use the nature transformation properly. So, I just trained with Asuma for the rest of the week and tried to increase my mastery of infusing the chakra to my sword. He agreed to teach me again when I was older. But I don't think I'll need his guidance again considering I could understand the principle of the technique. I'll probably be able to master it after I'm tall enough. I felt extremely annoyed by the prospect, but decided to be patient about it and focus on other sectors for my improvement.

Just as the council had dictated, they've found a team for me within a week. I knew very well how important teamwork can be, so I decided to put on my best clothes and go towards the academy, where we were supposed to meet.

As me and Umbra reached the meeting place, I found my two genin teammates already gossiping there. Even from a distance, I could easily distinguish their specialty.

A girl taller than me and certainly older who had the pale lavender pair of eyes every Byakugan users had. She wore the usual training uniform the Hyuga clan branch family. Her sleek black hair was tied in a braid and her headband was placed perfectly in a way to hide the cursed seal every branch family member had to have.

And a boy with round face and a proud chubby body. He was munching down on something. He had an easygoing vibe around him that just made him want everyone to be his friend. Clearly an Akimichi clan member.

As I closed inside the Byakugan's range, the Hyuga girl noticed me immediately. As their attention went towards me, I gave them a big smile and waved my hands towards them.

"Hello teammates! I'm Rei Inuzuka and this cute guy is Umbra. I'm going to be your new teammate from today."

In response to my charming greeting, they both gave their greetings and shared their names.

The girl puffed herself to make her seem even taller and tried to make it known that she was older than me,

"I'm Sayrui Hyuga. I haven't exactly had the pleasure of working with an Inuzuka before. Don't worry cute little guy, you big sis Sayrui is going to take good care of you!"

"Sayuri, stop creeping out the kid. Also, stop trying to hold audition for finding a younger brother. It's weird." The chubby boy said as he munched on some crackers, "Hi, I'm Daigo Akimichi. I'm the normal one in the group."

"You make it sound like our sensei is also weird like Sayuri."

"Oh, yeah! He is not normal at all." Sayuri said with a mischievous grin on her face. It took her a second to realize that I had just teased her, "Hey! I'm not weird. I just want to have a younger brother. Sisters are so annoying."

She reminded me so much of Kaho that I couldn't help laughing. Daigo joined me as we started joking around for a bit.

We told each other our specialties. It wasn't hard to figure out what specialties Sayri and Daigo had, but my case was a bit different. I have dabbled in almost all sectors of a ninja but decided to only limit my specialties to 'Sensory and Genjutsu' abilities. I also informed them that I know a bit about medical ninjutsu and can act as their support medic if needed.

All in all, both of them were nice people. Despite their individual quirks they were not unfriendly nor rude. Our sensei returned after almost five minutes.

He was quite tall, almost as tall as my father. Despite clearly being in his late twenties, the dark signs below his eyes told me that he hasn't slept well for weeks. That along with how depressed he looked made him seem as if he was a middle-aged man.

Yeah, definitely not normal. He looked towards us have a loud sigh that seemed more like a statement about how tired he was than anything.

"Oh, you're the genius kid. There are way too many geniuses these days. It's such a pain to deal with you kids."

Sayuri perked up hearing that, "Sensei, don't be rude towards Rei. You haven't even told him your name yet."

"Oh, yeah. I need to also tell my name. What a pain. In Anbu, we just had a nickname based on an animal. That was much better." My new sensei have another loud sigh as he spoke, "My full name is really annoying, just call me Reiga sensei."

"Of course, Reiga sensei." I replied.

"I just got a C-rank mission from the office. Let's go. We supposedly need to take care of a bunch of bandits."

Reiga sensei starting walking towards the gate and Sayrui & Daigo followed. Not showing any surprise, I followed them from behind.

Weren't new shinobis supposed to catch cats for the first few months? Well, whatever. Maybe this was because that this team has been working for a couple of months and in turn I could skip the chore parts. This was good for me. I would rather have an actual combat experience than do glorified errands.
