Naruto: Wolf of the Hidden Leaf

Chapter 18: Team 03 (III)

Reiga POV:

Reiga was not a hardworking man and he would rather avoid complicated things if he could. He left Anbu after seeing the high mortality rate for the job first hand. He came this close to dying on the night of Nine Tailed Demon's attack.

He loved living. So, he cut his losses and applied for being a jonin sensei. He was approved and was assigned to Team 3. One Hyuga, one Akimichi and the last one from a civilian family. The third kid didn't even want to be a shinobi. He left after a couple of months of being a genin, supposedly wanting to build a sweet shop in Konoha.

Well, everyone has their dreams and Reiga was matured enough to understand that unlike his father ever could.

The replacement came in yesterday. Rei from the Inuzuka clan. Highest ever academy score holder and graduated early at only six. Reiga was not even a bit surprised that someone that young can accomplish that much.

The world of shinobi is cruel. Your race, sex or age doesn't matter. What matters is your capabilities. He had worked with Kakashi both during the war and in Anbu. And he had seen first-hand how age is totally useless when measuring the power of a ninja. Those who let their guard down seeing that they are fighting a kid will die first to the very same kid. This was nothing but the reality itself.

Reiga observed as Rei got on top of the house and started weaving a hand sign. He recognized it as a basic sound based genjutsu used to confuse enemies or to create a diversion. He thought that he would get some hands-on combat ability feedback from the boy. But that was not to be considering all the bandits inside the house got knocked unconscious within a second.

Dangerous.

That boy can become the perfect assassin if he's trained properly. Reiga could see why they all had praised his genjutsu abilities. Using normal D and C rank genjutsu but getting the effect of a much higher ranked genjutsu is quite terrifying.

He had noticed a small problem but it'll get fixed in no time.

He now diverted his attention towards two of his other students. From his position he could clearly see them fighting through the windows.

Sayuri and Daigo both used their clan based jutsu; Sayrui using her Byakugan to use gentle fist and Daigo using his 'Partial Expansion.' Both of them were extremely competent by their own which should be the usual case considering the fact that both of them were from well respected families of Konoha who used their own personalized hidden jutsu.

Neither of them was as proficient in using their clan's hidden jutsu as Reiga would've wanted to. But well, beggars can't be choosers.

It took them around five minutes to knock out all their opponents.

He took a mental note of all their strengths and weaknesses. As their sensei, it was his job to guide them properly towards the correct path. And as a lazy man, he really wanted to dispose of this responsibility. He wasn't a teacher and he didn't have the patience to actually see through them through all their obstacles in life. He had his own life to take care of.

Besides, he's almost thirty right now and he is nowhere close to getting married. The thought about the lack of girlfriends in his life upset him tremendously. It's freaking peace-time and yet he still has to work to the bone.

Just like every day in his life, he questioned why did he ever become a ninja in the first place. He should've stayed with his father and tended to his restaurant business. He might not have as much money as he has now, but still, he would at least be able to rest.

As he questioned his life decisions, he looked at his genin team.

The next chunin exams are only a couple of weeks away and while Reiga would really like to suggest his group for the chunin exams, he was sure that he won't get approval considering how little they have accomplished. Which meant that he had to wait for another six months for the next chunin exam. If he can train this group properly and make them ready for it then they might be able to sit for the exam and also pass it, which will ultimately relieve his duties as their jonin sensei.

Good. That should be the plan of action. He'll work these three to the bone and make them the best team possible. Then they'll sit for the chunin exam and after passing, they'll be able to conduct missions on their own without Reiga babysitting them.

Perfect plan.

Reiga was not a hard worker. And ironically most of the time he worked the hardest just so he could finish the job quickly and goof off later. It was something that he himself did not realize.

Rei POV:

Me and Umbra were sitting on the rooftop and eating some of the food that the bandits had cooked before. It was deer meat and surprisingly the seasoning was quite well for a bunch of thugs. I have learnt a lot of things in both my lives but cooking was not one of them. Which is why I usually just ate an energy bar or beef jerky when I'm training for hours on out.

Sayuri and Daigo were tying up the bandits. I was too lazy to do that by myself, so I sent a couple of shadow clones to do it instead. Umbra was sulking because they did not have any raw meat in their hideout. And like a very good person, I was eating my fill while making him annoyed at the same time.

Reiga sensei had been watching our fight the whole time. Although he seemed like a lazy, sad, middle-aged man, my gut told me that there was much to him than that. He had served in the Anbu after all. And Anbu aren't chosen without proper qualifications.

As Sayuri and Daigo got out of their building, they found me sitting on the rooftop and eating roasted meat. I could see their annoyance even from up there. In response, I smiled and waved at them but did not offer the meat.

Finders keepers and all.

After all the bandits have been gathered out in the open, Reiga sensei got up from his position and converged to us. I had already dispelled my shadow clone and was coming down from the house. Sayuri was going to say something to me but before she could do that, Reiga sensei started talking,

"Nice fight. It shouldn't be much of a problem for you guys to tackle untrained bandits. The plan to spilt up and attack them at the same time was a good idea but try not to do that if there are stronger opponents nearby." Reiga sensei said as he clapped his hand, "I'll also give your individual evaluation. But before that, we need to extract intel from these bandits. Rei, ready your genjutsu."

Without waiting for my reply he went along and woke up the bandits by punching them in the nose. I wasn't sure if that was the best way to wake them up but I didn't say anything considering Reiga sensei had much more experience in this sort of thing than I had.

The bandits were confused and mumbled some things but the loudest one was clearly the leader of the group. He had a balding head with scars along the side of his eyes. His height was easily more than six feet and his muscular arms showed that he had good physical powers.

He couldn't move most of his body considering Sayuri was his opponent. She had closed most of his chakra points. I haven't ever been hit on my chakra points, but I expect it to be extremely annoying to say the least.

The tough looking bandit leader spat blood on the side as he spoke. His words laced with venom,

"Fucking Leaf ninjas. Y'all are a bunch of assholes, sending children..."

Even before he could finish his sentence, Reiga sensei punched him on his jaw much harder than the last time.

"You should not speak like that in front of kids. They'll learn the wrong things if you do that."

The leader spat blood again as his tough guy act seemed to be diminished by the second. It wasn't even a chakra infused punch and he was already reeling from the pain.

"Look, I don't have time to deal with a bunch of nobodies like you. I just want to finish my mission, go home and read a book. So, we can either do it the easy way or the hard way."

Hearing Reiga's demand, the other bandits declared that their leader would never betray the group. Just the usual pseudo bravado. The bandit leader grinned with his bloody teeth and declared,

"Do your worst!"

Hearing his declaration, Reiga sensei realized that it was over playing nice and signaled me to start. I performed the necessary hand signs and within seconds, three of the bandits started burning from their head to toe. Their screams echoed through the calm forest as the sudden change in their eyes and expression surprised everyone.

Flaying Hell Illusion.

The illusion of their burning bodies and the cacophony of their screams were even able to make Daigo flinch in surprise. Terror crossed through every member of the bandit group and they saw their own comrades being burnt alive. To complement the illusion of their burning skin and their deafening scream, I performed another jutsu at the same time. A simple jutsu used to divert the sense of smell. And in this case, the smell that they got was the smell of flesh burning.

If I'm creating an illusion, I would rather make it as real as possible.

"What the hell did you do to them!" the leader demanded answers.

"I put them on a conditional jutsu. Their flesh, bones and organs will slowly burn away as the are cooked alive. Once activated even I can't stop the combustion." I lied through tooth and nail, "The only way to actually stop the fire is to fulfill the condition. The condition this time being you agreeing to tell us what we need to know."

Even after understanding the concept the leader still seemed hesitant. He had some idea that this type of jutsu should not exist but at the same time his ignorance in ninja art stopped him from taking a gamble of his comrades lives. I gave myself a mental note to tell a better lie next time.

At that exact same time, one of the burning bandits started shouting in a high-pitched voice as if he was dying. He started screaming 'Save me brother' again and again.

Did I overdo it somehow? I thought to myself. Technically, they can actually die from heart attack if the illusion of pain is far above what they can handle. I debated whether or not to cancel the jutsu when the leader shouted,

"Stop! Just stop torturing my men. Their lives are worth more to me than all the bastards present in the other group. I'll tell you everything you need to know."

Hearing his compliance, I quickly deactivated my jutsu before I accidentally killed someone. Observing from their facial expressions, I was pretty sure that I've just scarred them for life.

I really need to stop doing that.
