Naruto: Wood-Wood Fruit

Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Senju Legacy

That afternoon, Kiyoshi slept deeply.

It wasn't until four in the afternoon that Kurenai woke up. She felt something heavy pressing against her, making her a bit uncomfortable.

When she looked down, she saw the little pervert snuggled against her chest, completely unrestrained.

His face wore a small, satisfied smile, and Kurenai couldn't help but chuckle to herself.

"This brat really thinks I'm a pillow, huh?" she mused.

She glanced at the time, then gently tapped Kiyoshi on his forehead. "Kiyoshi… time to get up!"

"Good morning, Kurenai-neechan~…" Kiyoshi murmured as he woke, rubbing his eyes.

He looked at the lovely face right in front of him, still yawning from sleep, and, without thinking, wrapped his arms around Kurenai's soft body, planting a kiss on her cheek.

The ease with which he did this clearly showed it wasn't the first time.

"It's hardly morning; it's already four…" Kurenai said, wiping a bit of drool from her cheek.

She wasn't angry, though. She pinched Kiyoshi's face, her eyes filled with a fondness that was impossible to hide.

"Oh, really?"

Kiyoshi raised an eyebrow but didn't cling to her any further.

Although he always restrained himself, careful not to overstep and risk annoying Kurenai and losing this warm embrace, his hands couldn't help but occasionally wander.

"You pervert, are you really not going back to school?"

Kurenai, dressed in a red camisole nightgown, stretched lazily, radiating a mesmerizing allure.

"No, to be honest, there's nothing left for me to learn there…" Kiyoshi replied, enjoying the sight.

"Tsunade-sensei said she'll take me to the Konoha Hospital in a couple of days to learn a few things."

He'd long since stopped wanting to attend the Ninja Academy, though Hiruzen, that peeping old Hokage with his Telescope Technique, made it difficult.

Kiyoshi couldn't just skip out every day or send a Shadow Clone in his place indefinitely.

Besides, he had to be careful not to attract the attention of Root. He had no doubt Danzo would be more than willing to recruit and brainwash a talented kid like him into a mindless weapon.

The Ino–Shika–Cho clans always supported the Sarutobi clan, yet even the Yamanaka clan couldn't refuse Danzo, forced to send their prodigy Yamanaka Fu to Root, where he was transformed into a cold-hearted assassin.

It spoke volumes about how much the Third Hokage turned a blind eye to Danzo's methods as his advisor.

Urged on by Kurenai, Kiyoshi finally gave up on lazing around. With a bit of concern for his grandmother, Azumi, he quickly got out of bed to wash up.

"Kurenai-neechan, I'm going to head back now!"

"Alright, I'll stop by later to check on her."

"Okay…"

Kiyoshi understood. Women, after all, need time to get ready.

…..

"Cough… cough…"

After saying goodbye to Kurenai, he returned home, only to hear the sound of his grandmother's coughing as he opened the door. She was awake.

"Kiyoshi, cough… you're back, cough…" Azumi's voice sounded frail.

"Grandma…" Kiyoshi quickly entered her room and helped her sit up. With his hands radiating a gentle green light, he channeled healing energy into her, doing his best to ease her discomfort.

"Where's Lady Tsunade?" Azumi asked.

"Tsunade-sensei and Shizune left a while ago. They said they'll stay in the village for a few more days.

Tsunade-sensei also asked me to go with her to Konoha Hospital for some practice," Kiyoshi explained, not hiding anything.

"Good, Lady Tsunade is renowned across the ninja world as a master of medical ninjutsu.

Her skills are unsurpassed, and you must make the most of this chance to learn," Azumi said, her tone sincere.

Kiyoshi chuckled, feeling a mix of humility and embarrassment. He'd never once thought that his natural talent made him superior to Tsunade.

She was one of the Legendary Sannin, after all. With decades of experience, her medical expertise far outshined what he could hope to learn on his own.

"Yes, of course…" he replied, laughing awkwardly.

Azumi coughed softly, then leaned on her cane and pointed under the bed. "Kiyoshi… would you help me take out the box under the bed?"

Kiyoshi was surprised but did as she asked, pulling out an old iron box covered in dust and rust, still locked.

He couldn't help but smile. "I don't think I've ever seen you open this box, Grandma. Could it be a hidden treasure?"

He had seen the box before and had once been curious about it, but since it was locked, he had left it alone.

Azumi had told him once that it was part of her inheritance and that she would give it to him when he graduated from the Ninja Academy.

"This box was given to me by my mother, your great-grandmother, before I married. It has been with me for decades." Azumi's eyes, usually clouded with age, softened with nostalgia.

"My great-grandmother?" Kiyoshi echoed in surprise. His grandmother had rarely spoken of her own mother, and it wasn't until recently that Kiyoshi learned of her origins within the Senju clan.

"Cough… although I was only a mediocre Chunin, your great-grandmother was far from ordinary," Azumi said, taking a key from around her neck.

"Your great-grandmother might not have been as famous as Lord Hashirama or Lord Tobirama, but she was a formidable figure among the Senju, a trusted confidante of Hashirama himself, and was well-known throughout the ninja world."

"She was so powerful that even ninjas from other nations feared her strength. Her name was Senju Toka."

"Senju Toka?" Kiyoshi's eyebrows shot up. The name sounded familiar. Wasn't she that Genjutsu expert from the Senju clan?

Kiyoshi vaguely remembered her appearing in the background of a scene in the original story, noted for her beauty as she stood alongside Tobirama behind Hashirama, signifying her high status.

"Yes, she was a master of Genjutsu. Even the Uchiha clan's three-tomoe Sharingan could barely break free from her illusions," Azumi said as she unlocked the iron box.

Inside the box were some intricately crafted silver and gold accessories, along with a scroll. Kiyoshi's gaze sharpened as he guessed, "Could this be…"

It looked like his family had quite a few hidden depths.

"Yes, this is part of the inheritance your great-grandmother gave me before I married," Azumi said, smiling as she nodded.

"It contains her extensive knowledge of Genjutsu, including advanced Jutsus and some of her training insights."

"Unfortunately, my talent wasn't enough to fully master even the lower-level Jutsus," she added with a small sigh.

"And your father lacked any affinity for Genjutsu. He excelled more in medical ninjutsu."

"Because of this, I kept it sealed all these years. I didn't give it to you before because I was worried it would distract you from your medical ninjutsu studies at such a young age…"

"But you've exceeded my expectations, my dear," she said, her voice filled with pride. "It's finally time to pass it on to you."
