Chapter 230: Chapter 30: The Rinnegan Returns
On the battlefield of Kirigakure, a tense standoff unfolded between three sides.
Madara Uchiha stood with a face as grim as stone, his overgrown lower eyelid twitching uncontrollably.
Tobirama Senju, crouched low to the ground, covertly glanced at Madara's twitching eyelid. He wanted to mock him, but after years of never smiling, he had forgotten how. His stiff cheeks twitched awkwardly.
As for Rinjin, he lay sprawled on the ground in a thoroughly disheveled state, tugging his mouth into an exaggerated pout, his shoulders shaking uncontrollably.
He desperately wanted to laugh, but the two men before him were both grandmasters. Laughing out loud would be far too disrespectful.
Amidst this three-way standoff, a white figure wriggled out from the soil beneath Madara Uchiha, inching up to his ear.
"Lord Madara, the seals on the Gedo Statue have been cleared. It's ready for transfer."
Upon hearing this, Madara instinctively felt a surge of joy, only to be struck by sudden alarm as he lifted his gaze toward Rinjin, who stood not far away.
This should have been good news—the Flying Thunder God seals on the Gedo Statue had been removed, meaning he could now retreat into the shadows.
But why did he feel like another scheme was lurking behind this?
At that moment, Rinjin, as if he had read Madara's thoughts, waved cheerfully and called out, "Grandmaster, hurry home! No schemes this time!"
Damn it! If you claim there's no scheme, then I might as well be seeing ghosts! You sly, cunning devil!
Seeing Madara unmoved, Rinjin's eyes darted mischievously, his mind brimming with devious ideas. With a smile, he spoke again.
"Grandmaster, I promise there's no scheme this time. You should trust me.
You may not know me well, but you can ask my second granduncle.
I may be clever, but I've always been a model of honesty and integrity—a true gentleman."
Honest and trustworthy? My ass!
At that moment, Madara Uchiha understood everything. Grinding his teeth, he retorted, "You sly bastard! First, you stalled me at the Mountain Graveyard in the Land of Iron, using clones to attack the Gedo Statue; then you lured me to Kirigakure, dragging out the fight while secretly strengthening your body underwater, misleading me into thinking your target was the Gedo Statue and the Ten-Tails.
That was your first layer of deception.
Then, you fed a half-true plan to Genshi, deliberately baiting me into using genjutsu to control him... No, not baiting—you dug a pit and waited for me to jump in!"
The more he spoke, the angrier Madara became. Yet, he suppressed these emotions deep within, fixing his gaze intently on Rinjin's face.
He was trying to probe, attempting to discern Rinjin's ultimate plan.
In Madara's mind, the fact that Rinjin had already obtained a Rinnegan but then returned it suggested there must be an even grander scheme at play.
With this thought, Madara stared at Rinjin and continued, "The controlled Genshi revealed your plan to me, making me believe your true goal was this pair of Rinnegan!
Furthermore, you've left Kirigakure twice; it seems you've already discovered Black Zetsu, haven't you?!"
Hearing this, Rinjin chuckled, nodding in agreement.
"Black Zetsu? Of course, I've figured him out. His sensory abilities are exceptional; I witnessed them firsthand while searching for Nagato in the Land of Grass.
You see, back in the Land of Grass, my shadow clones could never locate Nagato, even though I had turned the place upside down.
So, I thought, could there be someone with a sensory range surpassing mine, keeping an eye on me?
That's when I did a simple math problem:
Given that my sensory range forms a standard circle with a radius of about 2 kilometers, I deployed clones spaced 2 kilometers apart, aligned along an east-west baseline, each tilted northward at a 30-degree angle.
This setup formed a somewhat irregular semicircle with seven clones.
Then, I discovered that the northernmost two clones' sensory fields intersected with the western clone's field, detecting an unusual chakra at a north-northwest angle of 45 degrees.
The result was simple—I calculated Black Zetsu's approximate sensory range using the formula x = (2sin30 + 2cos30 + 2sin45)tan45 + 2!"
Spitting and gesturing animatedly, Rinjin finished his explanation and looked up at Madara Uchiha.
At that moment, even someone as formidable as Madara was utterly dumbfounded.
Who am I?
Where am I?
What the hell did I just listen to?
The ancient scriptures of the Naka Shrine weren't this incomprehensible!
On the other side, Tobirama Senju furrowed his brows, equally bewildered.
If only the monkey had burned more math books for me! This kid just rattled off a bunch of nonsense, and as a scientist, I didn't understand a word—it's embarrassing.
Disregarding his image, Madara shook his head forcefully, trying to eject whatever nonsense Rinjin had just spewed from his mind.
He was about to say something cool to save face but froze.
What could he say?
In terms of math, I, Madara, acknowledge you as the strongest?
Damn it, how humiliating!
But remembering his intent to probe Rinjin's motives, he coughed twice, forcibly steering the conversation back on track.
"V-very well, Rinjin, I must admit your cunning plans have succeeded.
You left Kirigakure twice, heading to the coast, to lure Black Zetsu back to me for intelligence, didn't you?!"
Hearing this, Rinjin nodded innocently.
Yes, but not entirely. Anyway, I never act without multiple benefits—if there aren't at least three or four advantages, I won't even bother.
Unaware of Rinjin's inner thoughts, Madara continued to scrutinize his facial expressions, trying to uncover his true intentions.
So far, two layers of Rinjin's plans had been exposed. Madara had a gut feeling that the final plan was hidden behind these layers of deception.
This realization made Madara increasingly wary of Rinjin.
This guy had silently laid out three layers of plans, all while misleading him under his very nose.
Yet, alongside his wariness, Madara suddenly saw Rinjin as the perfect candidate for the Moon Eye Plan.
First, his strength was formidable, enough to spar with Madara himself.
Second, he was extremely cunning—so much so that Madara couldn't confirm what he truly wanted even now.
Precisely because of this, Madara resolved never to let Rinjin near the Moon Eye Plan!
For someone as uncontrollable as Rinjin, a simpler, more transparent pawn was far safer.
With this thought, Madara covered his increasingly irritated, overgrown eye and plucked it out.
This Rinnegan—he didn't want it, nor did he dare to keep it.
Crushing it would be a good choice, but for someone who had endured decades of patience for his ultimate plan, it wasn't optimal.
Plans, trades, exchanges—perhaps giving this eye to Rinjin would be the best way to keep him out of his affairs.
Most importantly, deep down, Madara still believed Rinjin truly wanted this eye.
If he didn't give it to him, he might face endless harassment.
And the Moon Eye Plan's preparations weren't even halfway done.
He was old, and only growing older.
With time, his chances of defeating Rinjin would only diminish.
Most crucially, a single Rinnegan wasn't all that useful!
