Chapter 232: Chapter 32: The Multi-functional White Zetsu
Amegakure.
With a cane resting beside him, Rinjin hummed an incomprehensible tune as he leisurely sat in the laboratory of the Amegakure Tower.
On the platform before him lay the original body of White Zetsu, quietly allowing Rinjin's scalpel to slice and probe at will.
Behind him, Kagami rubbed his chin, watching with great interest.
One had to admit—this White Zetsu thing was genuinely fascinating.
You could attach all sorts of strange and bizarre things to it, and since it didn't have internal organs, its composition was more akin to a cluster of unicellular organisms.
This meant it could be turned into all kinds of items.
White Zetsu-brand ninja vests, White Zetsu-brand sandals, White Zetsu-brand toilet paper…
The possibilities were endless.
Most importantly, Rinjin could use White Zetsu to perform the Mayfly Technique!
That was absolutely incredible!
The Mayfly Technique! While it was slower than the Flying Thunder God Technique, its stealth capabilities far surpassed it.
Thinking of this, Rinjin didn't hesitate. He pried open White Zetsu's eyelids and turned to Kagami.
"Kagami, come on! Hit it with a Kotoamatsukami! "
Hearing this, Kagami tilted his head, giving Rinjin a sideways glance and a helpless smirk.
"Kotoamatsukami? I don't know that!"
"Then what do you know?" Rinjin asked, his expression darkening.
"How about a Great Fireball Jutsu?"
"..." Rinjin was instantly speechless.
Really, Kagami? I asked you to use genjutsu to control White Zetsu, and you suggest blasting it with a Great Fireball Jutsu? Why don't you just hit it with an Amaterasu while you're at it? Damn it!
What is it with the atmosphere in Amegakure?
How does a perfectly normal guy turn this cheeky after just two days here?!
With a punch to Kagami's shoulder, Rinjin grumbled irritably:
"Genjutsu! Try using your genjutsu to see if you can control this thing!"
Hearing this, Kagami nodded, his Sharingan spinning into a four-bladed windmill pattern as he locked eyes with White Zetsu.
After a long moment, Kagami stepped back and spoke slowly.
"Get up and walk a couple of laps."
At his words, White Zetsu, expressionless, stood up. Ignoring the wounds on its body, it obediently walked two laps around the lab table.
Seeing this, Kagami chuckled and shook his head.
"Rinjin, this thing isn't affected by genjutsu!"
"Why not? Didn't it just do exactly what you told it to?" Rinjin asked, puzzled.
"Heh, I didn't even use genjutsu~," Kagami replied with a sly grin.
Hearing this, Rinjin froze for a moment.
No genjutsu, and yet it still obeyed you and walked around???
After a brief pause, his face darkened.
Damn you, White Zetsu! Pretending to be under genjutsu when you're not? Watch me turn you into White Zetsu-brand toilet paper!
Konohagakure, Hokage Tower.
It was late at night, and Hiruzen Sarutobi had just finished his last bit of work. Stretching lazily, he prepared to head home.
Just then, he noticed a familiar figure standing in front of the office's floor-to-ceiling window. Judging by the posture, this person had been standing there for quite some time.
Blinking his dry eyes rapidly, Hiruzen finally recognized who it was.
It was his teacher—Tobirama Senju!
Wait! Did his teacher come back from the dead?!
Upon closer inspection, he noticed the numerous cracks covering Tobirama's body.
Realizing what this meant, Hiruzen quickly understood—it was an Edo Tensei body.
"Teacher, this is…?" Hiruzen asked cautiously.
Hearing this, Tobirama slowly turned his head, gazing at the now-aging Hiruzen Sarutobi with a faint sigh.
"It's Rinjin Shokuhō. That brat used Edo Tensei."
"What?! That boy actually dared to use such a technique!" Hiruzen's brows furrowed instantly.
Seeing this, Tobirama waved his hand dismissively. "Don't worry about it."
Techniques are invented to be used, after all.
"I still have many lingering concerns about the village. It's better for me to come back and take a look than for my elder brother to be summoned instead."
Speaking calmly, Tobirama glanced at Hiruzen's deeply shadowed eye sockets, feeling a mix of emotions.
He had taken a stroll around the village and found that things hadn't improved as much as he had hoped.
On the contrary, the once-spread-out Uchiha Clan had now completely clustered together, forming an even tighter group.
Similarly, other clans like the Hyuga, Sarutobi, and Inuzuka had territories distinctly separated from the common residential areas.
This was not good—very bad, in fact.
However, on the brighter side, the village now had a tall, sturdy wall that clearly wasn't cheap.
There were also more houses within the village, along with an increase in storefronts lining the streets.
This indicated that under Hiruzen's governance, the village had grown more prosperous.
Thinking of this, Tobirama sighed inwardly once more.
Clan clustering was a problem.
As he had once said to Orochimaru during the Fourth Great Ninja War, he didn't hate the Uchiha Clan. He simply kept an eye on any clan that might pose a threat to the village—nothing more.
It was just that the Uchiha Clan's deep emphasis on love often led to hatred born from love, which made them particularly concerning.
His elder brother, Hashirama Senju, believed the purpose of the village was to eliminate the boundaries between clans.
Balancing Hashirama's naivety with Madara's danger, while simultaneously protecting and consolidating the village, had been Tobirama's tireless mission during his tenure.
What he hadn't anticipated, however, was that Danzo Shimura and Hiruzen Sarutobi would misinterpret his intentions.
That Orochimaru would abuse his techniques.
That during the Fourth Great Ninja War, they would summon him using the Edo Tensei he had created, accuse him of being a sinner of the ninja world, and then proceed to exploit his power in battle.
It had the distinct flavor of someone eating from your bowl while cursing you as they chewed.
This was also why Rinjin always stuck close to Jiraiya and avoided getting too involved with Orochimaru.
Conducting experiments on children was bad enough, but committing countless heinous acts and then standing on a moral high ground to condemn others?
This… this was the legendary hypocrisy of the Land of Tea's Daimyō, wasn't it?
Back in the Hokage's Office.
Overall, the village had become what it was today—thriving and flourishing.
But Tobirama was merely a soul summoned back from the dead.
Thinking of this, Tobirama patted Hiruzen Sarutobi on the shoulder, speaking as he once did in the past:
"Monkey, go get some rest."
Hearing this, Hiruzen opened his mouth as if to say something, but the words caught in his throat.
Though he was already in his forties, at this moment, he felt like a student being inspected by his teacher.
Most importantly, he knew in his heart that part of his work had been done exceptionally well, while another part… not so much.
Sighing, Hiruzen nodded and turned to leave the Hokage's office.
Watching Hiruzen's somewhat dejected figure disappear down the corridor, Tobirama let out a long sigh.
At this rate, he feared that the Uchiha Clan might produce another Madara Uchiha.
And when that time came, he'd have no choice but to once again step into the role of the "Second Grandpa."
