Chapter 248: Chapter 48: Manda, Gamabunta, and Katsuyu
A dizzying whirl.
When Rinjin and Tsunade reappeared, they were already on one side of the battlefield.
Before they could steady themselves, the deafening sounds of combat filled their ears.
Looking out across the battlefield, Rinjin saw countless shinobi locked in brutal combat. The battle lines had blurred entirely.
Moreover, Rinjin noticed that very few Konoha shinobi were using ninjutsu. Most were relying on throwing weapons and explosive tags.
He didn't need to look long to understand—this battle had been raging for quite some time.
The most telling sign was the exhaustion etched on the faces of Konoha's forces. Almost everyone bore wounds of varying severity.
As Rinjin and Tsunade appeared behind Jiraiya, the latter immediately sensed their presence.
The three exchanged a glance, and the tension on Jiraiya's face visibly eased.
Thank goodness!
With Tsunade here, they now had the means to endure a prolonged battle.
But first, they needed to survive this current wave of attacks.
Just then, chaos erupted on the opposite side of the battlefield, where Iwagakure's command post was stationed.
The next moment, a massive swarm of snakes surged out from the command tent.
Seeing this, both Jiraiya and Tsunade's faces lit up with joy.
Orochimaru had returned!
At this point in time, the bond between Tsunade, Orochimaru, and Jiraiya remained incredibly strong.
Even from across the distant battlefield, Tsunade and Jiraiya's eyes sparkled as they looked toward the direction of the snake swarm.
In the next moment, they bit their fingers.
Boar – Dog – Bird – Monkey – Ram.
"Summoning Jutsu!"
Whether raspy and cold, deep and bold, or mature and wild, the synchronized voices of the three echoed across the battlefield.
And there it was—the iconic scene!
Massive clouds of white smoke erupted on both sides of the battlefield.
From within the smoke emerged the towering figures of Manda, Gamabunta, and Katsuyu, their immense forms dominating the battlefield.
Standing atop their summoned creatures, Orochimaru, Jiraiya, and Tsunade gazed down at the battlefield, their hair whipping in the fierce wind.
So cool!
Witnessing this scene, the Konoha shinobi erupted in cheers.
Battle prowess aside, just having these three present was enough to ensure that today, the young whelps of Iwagakure and Sunagakure would not leave unscathed.
Rinjin stood between the colossal figures of Katsuyu and Gamabunta.
He raised his hand, glanced at his fingers, and curled his lips in disdain.
"What a trashy summoning technique! Even a dog wouldn't bother with this! Bah!"
Inside Rinjin's body, the cat spirit lounged lazily, her eyes sparkling with amusement as she watched him. She was thoroughly entertained whenever Rinjin was annoyed.
What's more, she hadn't told Rinjin that she could also be summoned.
The cat spirit thought to herself, I don't want to be some summoning beast. I just want to be a pampered cat! (^▽^)
But what the cat spirit didn't know was that Rinjin could hear her thoughts.
As they spent more time together, not only could the cat spirit hear Rinjin's inner voice and know his thoughts, but Rinjin could also hear hers.
Clearly, he had heard her this time.
The next moment, a book title instinctively popped into Rinjin's mind: "The Tale of the Bijuu: Matatabi and Her Feline Tenant."
…
Inside his body, the cat spirit covered her face with her fluffy paws, blue-black flames flaring wildly around her.
"So… so embarrassing…"
…
While Rinjin and the cat spirit were caught in their awkward exchange, the battlefield underwent a subtle shift.
The Konoha forces, who had been on the receiving end of a relentless beating, suddenly rallied under the leadership of Jiraiya, Orochimaru, and Tsunade, launching a fierce counterattack.
Everyone shared a single, clear belief:
Survive this wave, return for treatment, and prepare for a prolonged battle.
At the forefront of the battlefield, the massive Gamabunta leapt high into the air, landing in the center of the fray.
In midair, Jiraiya, standing atop Gamabunta's head, let his white hair dance wildly in the wind as he rapidly formed hand seals.
"Gamabunta, oil!"
"Got it!"
The man-and-toad duo worked seamlessly, their chests puffing up simultaneously before unleashing their combined attack.
"Fire Release: Toad Oil Flame Bullet!"
In an instant, a searing wave of fire, nearly covering half the battlefield, surged toward the Sunagakure and Iwagakure forces.
Seeing this, the combatants on both sides momentarily paused, their faces filled with shock as they watched the massive toad spewing oil and landing heavily in the battlefield's center.
In an era where overpowered techniques weren't commonplace, Jiraiya's combat prowess was already considered formidable.
However, Iwagakure wasn't to be underestimated either.
The next moment, several imposing shinobi stepped forward, swiftly forming hand seals.
"Earth Release: Multi-Mud Wall!"
Large amounts of clay spewed from their mouths, forming a thick earthen wall that rose rapidly, blocking the raging flames.
Unfortunately for them, while the wall stopped the flames, it couldn't halt the swiftly slithering Manda.
In an instant, the Iwagakure forces hiding behind the earthen wall were thrown into disarray.
At that moment, an enraged roar echoed across the battlefield.
"Stop, you bastards!"
Accompanying the shout, a young man clad in red armor and wearing a red hood burst forth from the Iwagakure ranks, his body shrouded in scalding steam.
Seeing this, Rinjin raised an eyebrow, his eyes narrowing.
"The Five-Tails… Kokuō!"
From the distant battlefield, a sound resembling the whistle of a steam locomotive rang out. The red-armored man's speed surged, leaving a pure white streak in the air as he charged headfirst into Manda's chin.
A powerful shockwave erupted from the impact, forcing Manda's head to rear back. Despite the blow, the colossal snake didn't forget to curse Orochimaru.
"Damn you, Orochimaru! This time, if I don't get a hundred sacrifices, you're finished!"
Manda's arrogant voice echoed far and wide.
Hearing this, Rinjin instinctively furrowed his brows.
To be honest, he didn't like such rude summoning beasts.
In contrast, Katsuyu was much more endearing—her voice was clear and polite, and most importantly, she had a round, chubby appearance that looked incredibly satisfying to pet.
As Rinjin indulged in his wild imagination, the tides of the battlefield began to shift.
Perhaps realizing that prolonged fighting would yield no benefits, under the intimidating presence of the three Sannin, Chiyo led the Sunagakure forces in a slow retreat.
Following suit, the Iwagakure forces, having lost their will to fight, also began to withdraw.
On the other side, the Konoha forces, though their morale was high, refrained from pursuing. Instead, under Jiraiya's command, they slowly pulled back.
By now, they were utterly exhausted.
And so, with a tacit understanding, the three sides brought this prolonged battle to an end, each retreating to their respective camps.
