Chapter 266: | 266 | The Visit
UWG Spatial Observation Site 01
Inside the dark monitoring room riddled with flickering combined-technology, operators composedly observed the spatial surveillance system. Their duty was to protect the spatial integrity of the country through the utilization of spatial-detection technology.
Whether it'd be natural events, or artificial ones like the spatial transmission of the Magus and the HERMES combined-technology. The observation site would be able to detect it and briefly send the following data to the Citadel. In simpler terms, they were the warning system of the UWG. One of the operators calmly gazed upon the spatial surveillance system while sipping a cup of coffee. Even though their duty in the protection of the spatial integrity was of great importance, it was boring to say the least.
There was nothing to do other than surveillance of the system that rarely gave a ping. When it did grant them a ping, it was nothing more but the testing of the HERMES combined-technology.
However, it was all about to change.
As the operator looked at the spatial surveillance system and took another sip from the cup of coffee, a ping resounded from the outermost region of the country. It echoed throughout the monitoring room, attracting the attention of everyone inside.
The operators straightened their back as one of them promptly reported to the others.
"Incoming spatial phenomena, moving at Mach 20, heading... Citadel."
Hearing the report of the operator, the others swiftly opened communication with the Citadel and the intelligence agencies inside. They questioned the activation of a HERMES or a developing combined-technology, which the Citadel immediately denied.
"Sir, the Citadel and the United Military didn't authorized any usage of the HERMES. There wasn't also any testing in regards to newly-developed combined-technology." An operator who was communicating with the Citadel reported.
"It seems that the projectile is entirely foreign. It's destination is also the Citadel!" Without a tinge of hesitation and delay, the lead operator called the Citadel once again. It was of utmost urgency as they only had a minute before the unknown projectile lands into Installation 00.
*SOS 01, have you confirmed the detection?* The communication officer from the other side calmly questioned the lead operator, who responded with a bit of anxiousness. "Detection confirmed! It's destination is the Citadel! We will be sending the exact coordinates of the landing site."
*Affirmative, SOS 01! Relaying coordinates to the United Military.* The communication officer relayed the data sent by the SOS 01 to the United Military, which prompted the deployment of a dozen frigates and destroyers along with the armored and mechanized regiments.
The Citadel was the capital fortress city of the United World Government. It was crowded with defensive platforms that no army in the fantasy world could invade. Whether it'd be massive cannons, thousands of mobile SAM Sites, and hundreds of scattered missile silos.
Thick, gargantuan walls also surrounded the Foundation and the cityscape enclosing around it. There was also the existence of several runic shielding stations along with OURANOS stations. It was the strongest bastion of the World Government.
After the communication between the Spatial Observation Site and the Citadel ended, the lead operator sighed while lounging on his chair. His gaze narrowed as a cold glint escaped it. "The OURANOS stations should be stabilizing the spatial plane of the Citadel."
"They must be incredibly powerful to be able to puncture through our spatial stabilizers with ease."
"I just hope that the city wouldn't be too devastated by the incoming foreign object. Otherwise, the United World Government would be thrusted into another conflict." The lead operator uttered, his voice echoing throughout the monitoring room.
The operators surrounding him could only watch and listen as they glanced upon the flickering dot that was moving across the sea region at high-hypersonic speed.
Meanwhile, within the Citadel were the deafening alarms of various sirens reverberating throughout the cityscape. The nearby fleet of frigates and destroyers were also readying naval personnel into their respective battle stations.
Surrounding military bases of the United Military were also informed by the unexpected intrusion of a foreign object moving at Mach 20. These military bases rapidly deployed their airborne battalions to reinforced the Citadel in preparation for a conflict.
On the other hand, dozens of fighter jets and multi-role fighter aircrafts were sent out to prepare for battle as attack helicopters riddled the heavens. Convoys of hundreds passed through highways while civilians were evacuated into underground railways that would transfer them into the Foundation.
The unexpected emergence of the fast-travelling foreign object unruffled the hornet nest that was the United Military. The Citadel was of great importance as it was the beating heart of the United World Government. It must not fall, and it shall collapse.
Within the crown of the Citadel, Abraham smoothly swirled his glass of wine while staring at the direction where the coordinates of the foreign object's destination was situated. A Sovereign could be visiting, or perhaps it might be entirely something else.
Depending to the situation, he was ready to fight against anything and anyone. Though, he preferred diplomacy especially if the battlefront was inside his own turf. The damages done would be directed to the United World Government and the Citadel, dumping them back a few years.
Through this thought process, he hoped that the foreign invader wasn't planning to cause trouble to the capital city he worked to construct. Otherwise, all hell would break lose. The United World Government would completely transform into a war economy and begin its domination.
"Well, let's see what this visitor has for us." Abraham muttered under his breath as an arrogance smile emerged from his handsome face. No matter the challengers. He would always defeat them no matter what. For he was the sun, the eternal light of the world.
"Is it a friend or a foe?" He watched as a shooting star pierced through the heavens, soaring across the bluish skies and gleaming the world below it brilliance. It was beautiful, yet whether it contained a blessing or a disaster remained a mystery to the eyes that beheld it.
...
Half an hour ago.
In the continent of Europa, contrary to popular belief, the vast landmass of the supercontinent wasn't completely populated by humans alone. The expanse was divided by four races, humanity, the elves, dwarves, and the monster-species. These races considered themselves the rightful overlord of the continent, resulting in a millennium long war between one another.
Within the Typhon Continental Region, a lone ruler of an influential monster country was constructing a massive spell circle that would serve as the evacuation site of their people. It was a failsafe as the continental region was filled to the brim with dangers whether it'd be neighboring monster kingdoms or the encroaching fortress of humanity.
Monsters were of the same classification as Magibeasts. These beings were completely constructed out of mana, making them magical beings in default. Most monsters were mindless savages that only sought to grow and become stronger. But some were bestowed upon intelligence through time, giving birth to subspecies such as orks, goblins, ogres, lizard folk, trolls, giants, and kobolds.
Amongst the diverse subspecies were the daemon race which remained as the rulers of the continental region. They were gifted in magicraft, capable of materializing conceptual elements with ease. However, the downsides was their lesser quantity merely reaching a thousand members of the race. It was for this reason why the daemons hadn't conquered the continent of Europa with their gifts.
There weren't much of them.
"My lord, does the spell really need to have you as a test subject?" A daemon servant questioned their ruler's ideas of testing the spell circle themselves. It would be no doubt a dangerous endeavor as it could lead them to the territories of their adversaries.
"It has to be done, Sebastian. The withdrawal spell must be completed before the upcoming war games. I don't want my people to be in the mercy of the warring states. Besides, its better to have the ability to escape than not." The lone ruler gave a soft smile to the daemon servant, resulting in him sighing.
"I see... Then I shall not stand in your way, my lord. I will ensure the protection of our kingdom until your return from your short trip. I will relay your commands to the generals." Sebastian deeply bowed to the monarch of Monstra, the one who gave them hope in the wilderness filled with fraught and danger.
"I'll immediately return, there's no doubt about that." The spell circle was quickly activating as its runic symbols gleamed with brilliance. The daemon servant was blinded as the monarch became a shooting star soaring across the vast heavens.
The destination was unknown, but the requirements for the location was for it to be the safest place of their people.
In the present, the foreign object landed upon the district 21 of the southern sector. Dust and smoke filled the air, though with time, they slowly dispersed to the surroundings. A shadowy silhouette slowly emerged from the enveloping smoke along with the pair of demonic horns and succubus-like tail taking form.
The lone figure stretched their body upward ready to perceive whatever was beyond the cover of smoke and dust. However, as these two steadily dispersed further into the surroundings, a concrete jungle loomed over them.
They stood frozen, unable to comprehend the scenery before their eyes. How was this possible? The spell shouldn't have thrown them back to where they came from. Just when they thought they wouldn't be able to return to the era and world they belonged. Destiny threw them an unexpected uppercut.
It was nostalgic, to say the least.
"A- a modern city?"
"Is this earth?"
