Neon Oligarch

Chapter 10: Chapter 10 The Danger Lurking in the Rainforest

The humid air hung heavy, thick with the scent of decaying leaves and the buzzing of unseen insects.

Lucas Voss, his usual smirk playing on his lips, surveyed the dense emerald walls of the rainforest.

"Well, ladies, looks like our little scavenger hunt has taken a…wild turn."

Sera,ever the pragmatist,adjusted her backpack.

"Sir,are you certain the system's intel is reliable? This place seems…less than ideal for artifact hunting."

"Trust me,Sera,"Lucas drawled,a glint in his eyes.

"The more ridiculous the location, the more epic the loot. Besides,"

he added,a playful grin spreading across his face,

"who needs a spa day when you can have a jungle adventure?"

The rainforest floor squelched beneath their boots as they ventured deeper, the canopy above filtering the sunlight into dappled patterns.

The air vibrated with an almost palpable energy,a sense of ancient secrets waiting to be unearthed.

Suddenly,the ground beneath them shuddered.

Before anyone could react, thick, gnarled vines erupted from the earth, snaking towards them with alarming speed.

Sera gasped,Grace cried out,and even the stoic Athena's eyes widened in surprise.

"Surprise!"

Lucas chuckled, his voice laced with amusement.

"Looks like the system's throwing us a welcome party.

Don't worry,ladies,I've got this."

With a wink,he channeled his reverse cultivation technique,a mischievous glint in his eyes.

Instead of resisting the vines,he instructed the others to pull with them, using their momentum to unravel the intricate web.

Within moments, the seemingly impenetrable trap was undone, the vines collapsing harmlessly to the ground.

"See?Easy peasy,"

Lucas quipped,dusting off his hands.

"Now,where were we?"

The air crackled with tension.

The playful atmosphere shattered as a volley of darts, tipped with a viscous green liquid, whizzed past their heads, embedding themselves in the trees behind them.

"Ambush!"

Athena roared, her hand instinctively moving to the sword strapped to her back.

From the shadows of the dense foliage, figures emerged, their faces painted with tribal markings, their eyes burning with a mixture of hatred and greed.

Marcus Ironclad's remnants.

Daisy, ever vigilant, leaped into action, her twin daggers flashing in the dappled sunlight.

She moved with the grace of a jungle cat, deflecting darts and countering with swift, precise strikes.

Athena,a whirlwind of lethal elegance, joined the fray, her sword a blur of silver against the emerald backdrop.

The air filled with the clash of steel, the guttural cries of the attackers, and the rustle of leaves as the battle raged.

The attackers, though numerous, were no match for the combined might of Daisy and Athena.

However, they knew the terrain, utilizing the dense undergrowth to their advantage.

They moved like shadows, appearing and disappearing, making it difficult to pin them down.

During a chaotic exchange,a dart,coated in the same green liquid,grazed Daisy's arm.

She cried out,stumbling back.

Lucas's playful demeanor vanished.

His eyes narrowed,a dangerous glint replacing the usual amusement.

"Daisy!" he barked, his voice laced with concern.

He reached for her,his mind racing, calculating the best course of action.

The attackers,sensing an opening,pressed their assault,emboldened by Daisy's injury.

The situation was escalating rapidly, the odds shifting against them.

The rainforest,once a playground for Lucas's system-fueled adventures,had become a deadly battleground.

Suddenly,Grace, who had been relatively silent during the chaos, gasped.

She pointed a trembling finger towards a moss-covered stone,half-hidden in the undergrowth.

"Look!"she whispered, her voice barely audible above the din of battle.

"That marking..."

Besides," he added,a playful grin spreading across his face,"who needs a spa day when you can have a jungle adventure?"

They pressed deeper, the rainforest floor a spongy carpet under their boots.

Sunlight dripped through the canopy in fractured beams.

An almost palpable energy thrummed in the air,a sense of ancient secrets whispering on the humid breeze.

A tremor ran through the ground.

Before anyone could react, thick, gnarled vines exploded from the earth, lashing out like hungry serpents.

Sera gasped,Grace cried out,and even the stoic Athena's eyes widened in surprise.

Lucas chuckled,unfazed.

"Surprise!

Looks like the system's throwing us a welcome party."

Winking,he channeled his reverse cultivation technique,a mischievous glint in his eyes.

"Ladies,grab on!"

Instead of resisting,he instructed them to pull with the vines, using their combined momentum to unravel the intricate web.

The seemingly impenetrable trap unraveled, the vines collapsing harmlessly at their feet.

The air crackled with a new, dangerous energy.

The playful atmosphere shattered as a volley of darts, tipped with a viscous green liquid, whistled past their heads, thudding into the trees behind them.

"Ambush!"

Athena roared, her hand flying to the sword strapped to her back.

From the shadows of the dense foliage, figures emerged, faces painted with tribal markings, eyes burning with hatred and greed.

Marcus Ironclad's remnants.

Daisy, ever vigilant, sprang into action, twin daggers a blur of silver in the dappled sunlight.

She moved with predatory grace, deflecting darts and countering with swift, precise strikes.

Athena joined the fray, her sword a whisper of death,a silver streak against the emerald backdrop.

The air filled with the clang of steel, the guttural cries of the attackers, and the rustle of leaves as the battle raged.

Outnumbered but not outmatched,Daisy and Athena carved a swathe through their opponents.

But the attackers knew the terrain, melting into the dense undergrowth, appearing and disappearing like phantoms.

In the chaos,a dart, coated in the same viscous green liquid, grazed Daisy's arm.

She cried out,stumbling back.

The playful mask fell from Lucas's face.

His eyes narrowed,a dangerous glint replacing the amusement.

"Daisy!"

He reached for her,his mind racing.

The attackers,sensing an opening,pressed their assault,emboldened by Daisy's injury.

The rainforest,moments before a playground for Lucas's system-fueled games,had become a deadly trap.

Suddenly,Grace, who had been relatively silent during the chaos, gasped.

She pointed a trembling finger towards a moss-covered stone,half-hidden in the undergrowth.

"Look!"she whispered, her voice barely audible above the din of battle.

"That marking…it's like the one on the map Sophia gave us!"Etched into the stone, barely visible beneath the clinging moss, was a symbol–a stylized serpent coiled around a staff.

The serpent's emerald eye seemed to gleam, catching a stray beam of sunlight.

It pulsed with a faint, otherworldly light.

The artifact.
