Chapter 192: Adorable Ayaka
Haruto fulfilled his promise as they finally arrived at the amusement park, its vibrant lights glowing against the warm hues of twilight.
The sky had shifted to a soft orange, and the park's colorful lights lit up every corner, casting a magical glow over the rides.
It felt as though they had stepped into a dreamscape, a perfect setting for a date.
"Wow, it's like a box full of colorful jewels," Ayaka murmured, her voice filled with awe as her gaze darted from one glowing attraction to another.
Haruto chuckled at her choice of words, a soft smile tugging at his lips. "Ayaka, you really do have a unique way of describing things."
"Do I?" she tilted her head, her tone genuine. "That's just what came to mind. I didn't think it was odd."
"It's not odd," he replied, gently squeezing her hand. "It's just… you."
Her cheeks flushed faintly as she smiled at his response.
"Anyway," Haruto began, tugging her along playfully, "why don't we check out a few other attractions before the Ferris wheel? I want to make the most of this."
Ayaka nodded, allowing him to lead her. They soon stopped in front of the carousel, its pastel colors glowing softly under the lights.
The delicate horses and ornate carriages spun in a steady rhythm, their movements accompanied by cheerful, nostalgic music.
Ayaka gasped, clasping her hands together as her eyes sparkled with childlike wonder. "It's like a music box brought to life."
Haruto watched her in amusement, his heart warming at her reaction. "Then let's ride it," he said, guiding her to one of the horses.
He helped her climb onto the saddle, her long dress making the task a bit tricky, but she managed with his support.
As the carousel began to turn, the horses moving gracefully up and down, Ayaka's wide eyes took in the dazzling lights around them.
The breeze kissed her cheeks, and her laughter was as soft as the music accompanying their ride.
"I feel like I'm inside a music box," she whispered, her voice barely audible over the melody.
Haruto didn't respond. Instead, he found himself captivated by her expression—free of her usual guardedness.
In this moment, she seemed so genuine, so radiant, it made his chest tighten.
'She's beautiful,' he thought, pride swelling in him at being able to bring her this happiness.
"Haruto," Ayaka called out suddenly, her voice breaking his thoughts.
She turned to him, a playful glint in her eyes. "You look just like a charming prince on that horse."
He laughed, the sound light and unrestrained. "And you are my princess," he said without hesitation, his tone both teasing and sincere.
Her cheeks flushed a deeper shade of pink as she let out a small laugh, her joy spilling over.
Together, they rode the carousel again and again, neither of them minding how much time passed.
Haruto was content to stay there all night if it meant seeing Ayaka's happiness bloom in full.
After their third carousel ride, Haruto and Ayaka decided to explore the haunted house.
The distant scream of a woman echoed against the eerie backdrop of horror music, creating an ominous atmosphere.
The line wasn't long, which suited Haruto perfectly. As a fan of horror movies, he'd been itching for something to get his heart racing.
"Why don't we try this? The theme is an asylum—it sounds fascinating!" Haruto exclaimed, his eyes lighting up with excitement.
Ayaka's face paled at the suggestion, but Haruto was too captivated by the haunted house's intricate facade to notice.
She clung to his hand tightly. "Y-yeah, it looks… scary," she stammered, her voice trembling as she tried to catch his attention.
Unaware of her apprehension, Haruto led her inside. The dim hallway stretched before them, its walls smeared with bloody handprints and unsettling messages like HELP scrawled across the tiles.
The air was heavy with an oppressive, metallic scent, and the haunting music intensified with every step.
"This is amazing," Haruto muttered, his gaze darting around as he admired the chilling details. "They really nailed the asylum vibe."
Ayaka, on the other hand, kept her eyes tightly shut, relying on him to guide her trembling steps.
A sudden creak echoed as a door beside them flew open. Ayaka screamed, clutching Haruto's arm and burying her face in his chest.
"AHHH!"
Haruto chuckled softly, more amused than startled. "Let's check it out!" he said, pulling her toward the dark room.
Inside, a man with charred skin was strapped to a chair, his body twitching as electrical currents sparked around him. Your next read awaits at My Virtual Library Empire
The horrifyingly realistic burns covered every inch of his exposed flesh, and his anguished face added to the grotesque scene.
"Wow, look at the detail on those burns—it's incredible," Haruto commented, stepping closer to inspect the prop. "Ayaka, you've got to see this!"
Ayaka cautiously peeked through her fingers, only for the "corpse" to jolt violently, its eyes snapping open and mouth twisting in a silent scream.
She flinched, letting out a strangled gasp as she clung to Haruto tighter.
"I think we need to find a key," Haruto said as he remembered the staff saying they needed to get out of the asylum by themselves, hitting that would be puzzles as they went to the locked door ahead.
He began searching the room, his curiosity undeterred. Spotting the pocket of the corpse's tattered pants, he reached toward it.
As his fingers brushed the fabric, the body convulsed and let out a blood-curdling scream. Ayaka's shriek filled the room as she burst into tears, panic overwhelming her.
"Relax, it's just a prop," Haruto said, unfazed.
His hand darted into the pocket, retrieving the key while the "body" thrashed wildly. "Got it! Let's move on."
Dragging Ayaka along, he opened the next door. By now, her legs were trembling so much she could barely walk.
"H-Haruto…" she whimpered, her voice weak and trembling. "C-can we leave? Please?"
Haruto paused, finally noticing her pale complexion and tear-filled eyes. "You don't look so good, Ayaka. Alright, let's hurry and finish this."
The next rooms grew progressively scarier, with more gruesome props and sudden jump scares.
Ayaka flinched and screamed at every turn, her fear reaching its peak when a swarm of zombies burst from the walls, chasing them down a narrow corridor.
Haruto laughed, exhilarated by the thrill, while Ayaka clung to him desperately.
Her legs gave out, forcing Haruto to scoop her up in his arms as he sprinted through the dimly lit halls.
"Hang in there, princess," he teased, his voice light despite her trembling grip around his neck.
Ayaka buried her face against his shoulder, wishing for the nightmare to end.
As Haruto navigated the final stretch of the haunted house, his laughter echoing in the eerie halls, Ayaka silently vowed to avoid anything remotely horror-related in the future.
A moment later, they finally emerged from the haunted house, Haruto carrying Ayaka in a princess carry immediately drew attention.
Curious glances and murmurs rippled through the crowd, but Haruto remained unfazed.
Ayaka, however, still had her eyes tightly shut, her trembling body clinging to him as if her life depended on it.
Haruto looked down at her with a gentle smile. "Ayaka, we're outside now," he said softly, his voice calm and reassuring.
"R-really?" Ayaka's voice quivered as she slowly opened her eyes, only to meet his warm gaze.
She sighed in relief, her grip around him loosening slightly.
Haruto carried her to a nearby bench, settling down with her still leaning heavily against him.
Ayaka's arms remained wrapped tightly around him, her mind haunted by vivid images of the horrors they'd just experienced.
"That was such a fascinating haunted house," Haruto remarked casually, his tone light. "I'd love to go back and check out the details more thoroughly next time."
Ayaka pulled back just enough to look at him, disbelief written all over her face. "Haruto, do you even know what terrified means?" she asked, incredulous.
"Hm?" He tilted his head slightly, as if genuinely puzzled. "But all of it was fake. I don't believe in ghosts, though I enjoyed horror movies."
Her expression shifted from disbelief to pure bewilderment. "How can you not believe in ghosts but still enjoy watching them in horror movies?"
"Well," he began thoughtfully, "I've never seen a ghost with my own eyes, so I can't believe in them."
"But I love how horror movies make my heart race—it's thrilling." A playful grin tugged at his lips.
"It's not about believing, it's about the adrenaline."
Ayaka let out an exasperated sigh, shaking her head. "You really are a strange man."
Haruto chuckled, leaning slightly closer. "And you're adorable. I never imagined you'd be so scared of ghosts."
He recalled her pale face and high-pitched screams, a genuine laugh escaping him.
"E-eh?" Ayaka's cheeks flushed pink, her embarrassment rising as she puffed her cheeks.
"That's a perfectly normal reaction! You're the weird one, laughing like a maniac in there!" She lightly smacked his thigh, her annoyance barely hiding her embarrassment.
Her reaction only made Haruto laugh harder, his amusement doubling as she glared at him with reddened cheeks. Ayaka huffed, crossing her arms.
"Alright, alright, I'll stop teasing," he said, his laughter finally subsiding. "But for the record, you were really cute in there."
Ayaka's blush deepened, but she didn't reply. Instead, she stood up, tugging his hand. "Come on, let's go. I want to forget about that nightmare."
Haruto rose, still chuckling softly, and followed her lead. After a short walk, they arrived at their final destination—the giant Ferris wheel, its illuminated structure towering against the night sky.
Ayaka's eyes sparkled as she gazed up at it. Haruto smiled at her reaction, offering his hand. "Shall we?"
