Not Quite Broly

Chapter 5: The Greatest of Teachers is Experience

I sat cross-legged on the cold, metallic floor of one of Darkseid's austere study chambers.

The chamber's walls shimmered with projections of distant galaxies and abstract symbols, while ambient starlight mingled with creeping shadows.

To any onlooker, I epitomized the brutal Saiyan warrior, a fierce exterior meticulously maintained.

Yet beneath that hardened mask, my mind teemed with questions and possibilities.

Across from me, Desaad fixed his calculating gaze on me - his young prince and began in his measured tone:

"Listen well, young prince. The universe is not a chaotic collision of raw emotion and might - it is a tapestry of mathematics, language, and logic.

To master your strength and destiny, you must understand the fundamental equations that govern reality."

I listened with seeming absentmindedness, expected from one seen as the savagest of a savage race, internally though I recognized the profound truth in Desaad's words.

I have after all seen in comics and legends how language, equations, and symbols could shape worlds, and understood that such mastery was key to transcending brute force.

Desaad stepped toward an interactive holo-board that materialized with a gentle hum and traced a glowing equation in mid-air:

Universe = Order + Entropy

"Every blast of Ki you unleash carries its counterbalance," Desaad explained. "Mathematics quantifies the rhythm of existence - just as your Ki flows in measured pulses, the cosmos dances to these equations."

Desaad continued by displaying a series of luminous symbols:

Delta E(Energy) = Delta m(mass)/delta t(time)

Force = Mass x Acceleration

He added, "Consider also the Anti-Life Equation, whose variables and constants, when applied precisely, can bind free will. Even the elusive Speed Force operates under its own refined laws."

Yet as Desaad turned his gaze once more towards me, he could see only boredom.

"Am I boring you my prince?" he questioned, with a seemingly gentle smile, though its edges were too wide.

"Your lessons are dull, Desaad. If you wish to teach me something, then teach me something worthwhile.

Your words may speak truth, but they are not currently relevant to me, especially with my journey looming ahead." I stated, as I raised my legs onto the table and leaned my head back onto my crossed hands.

I was now, 16 cycles old - or in earth terms, 16 years old, and Darkseid wished to send me out into the universe, to learn and conquer, for experience is one of the greatest teachers.

Desaad hearing me even though clearly infuriated, kept up appearances.

He shut the projections and took a chair, getting seated in front of the Saiyan, eliciting a raised eyebrow from me. Interested, I put my feet away, and leaned forward.

"Tell me, my prince, do you know what makes you potentially the most fearsome warrior to ever exist?" Desaad questioned.

I have a few ideas, but since they depended on the laws of this reality working the same as that of the universe I knew my power came from, I gave the simplest answer, "Because I'm strong,"

My tone gave away the meaning, that I found the question stupid, like I found Desaad an idiot.

Desaad's left eye twitched, yet kept calm.

It was so amusing to play with him like this.

"Of course, your highness. You are indeed mighty. But that is not what I meant. What do you know of Ki, your highness?"

I frowned, "It is the the life force or energy that exists within all living beings. It is a combination of genki (vital energy), yūki (courage), and shōki (mind/spirit awareness)." I answered, giving the text book definition, one of the only things I let show my true interest of.

For it makes sense for it is the very nature of my power.

"Indeed, your highness. Every being has Ki, but what makes you Saiyans and various other species, special is that you can harness it as naturally as breathing.

And Ki, my prince, is one of the mightiest energies in the universe, for when one has enough of it, they can bypass the abilities of others."

And there it is, what I have been wondering since the moment I got here.

"It seems you understand, good," Desaad stated pleased, as he saw my eyes widen.

"You, as the Legendary Super Saiyan, as told in the Legend are ever growing, your Ki ever increasing, to the point that few existences will ever be able to truly stand above you.

Many abilities such as magic or the like you will simply be able to walk through as if it were nothing but the bites of gnats."

That confirms it, the Speed Force is not something meant for me.

The Speed Force has its own properties meaning, I know not how it will interact with my abilities. It is now even unneeded, knowing what I am truly capable of.

Though as I was processing everything I just realised and its implications, the door burst open and Kalibak strode inside, his form still imposing for my small form - that growth burst is soon, it has to be.

Without any warning, he appeared before him and grabbed me by the back of my neck and began to drag me away.

Every jarring tug sent searing pain down my spine, but I wasn't ready to yield. I jerked and writhed, desperately clawing at his imposing form while unleashing a barrage of kicks and slashing claw strikes.

Ki bursts, everything, yet I couldn't truly concentrate my energy because of the constant bursts of agony.

"Broly, listen up!" Kalibak growled, tugging my head back with savage force, as we arrived before a pool of bloodlike water. "This is training for your breathing. As a Saiyan, you can't breathe in space and it is not fitting for you to waste your time with machinery!"

I spat defiance between my ragged screams. "I don't need your crude methods!" I roared, channeling surges of ki that I could gather once more that blasted fiercely toward him.

Even then his grip held firm, though I managed to land a wild elbow jab against his forearm, my voice raw with both pain and determination.

Desaad's measured tone cut through the tumult as he hurried forward. "Kalibak, this is excessive! We have the machinery for this training - there's no need for such brutality!" His voice, calm yet edged with urgency, tried to temper the melee unfolding before him.

But Kalibak only sneered, his eyes burning with a predatory intensity. "In true battle, Desaad, there's no room for contraptions!

This raw chaos is the only lesson that matters!" With that, he slammed my head into the pool.

I fought the pull with sheer defiance, landing furious kicks and frantic ki attacks that spiked jagged bursts of energy against Kalibak's advances.

Every time his hand yanked my head upward, threatening to subdue me, I let out a guttural roar and unleashed a retaliatory blast.

Yet, despite each desperate swing, the brutal training continued.

"Enough!" Desaad insisted, voice rising over the clamor. "Your methods do nothing but shatter potential! Discipline and precision yield true power, not savage displays!"

Kalibak's laugh was a low, bitter rumble as he retorted, "Precision means nothing when faced with the raw storm of battle.

Look at him - every kick, every claw, every ki blast is a spark against fate itself!" He then yanked my head forcefully from the pool, and for a split second, I gasped in the fresh rush of oxygen.

But before I could savor the moment, his vice-like grasp plunged me back into the crimson liquid.

Gasping and thrashing, I could only yell in defiance. "I am not your training dummy, Kalibak! I'm a Saiyan - stronger than you can imagine!"

My words were lost in the maelstrom of our struggle. Each time I was pulled free, I lashed out in painful retaliation, my fists and ki surging in every desperate attempt to break free.

Yet Kalibak's relentless hold and vicious method hammered the savage rhythm of my training into every fiber of my being.

Desaad's voice, though still calm, carried the weight of restrained exasperation as he watched the brute contest. "Broly, control your energy! Kalibak, this is madness, not mastery!"

But as Kalibak pushed me back into the blood-like water again, his single-minded approach was something he was clearly set on. "In battle, there's no time for restraint or machinery, Desaad. Only the raw clash of power and will endures."

Suddenly though, a red flash appeared and the pool became vapor, and I could once more breath.

Kalibak let my neck go and I fell into the empty pool, as I then heard Desaad and him mutter, "Lord Darkseid," and heard the ground beneath them quake, knowing they must have gotten onto their knees.

"Father," I muttered in surprise, as I get up, and float out of the now empty hole.

"It gladdens me to see you two, get along so well, my sons, but the time for games is over. Desaad ready the spaceship. Broly will be leaving for his journey." Darkseid stated, and without another word, not waiting for anyone's words, he turned and walked away.

The three of us looked towards one another. I looked towards Desaad in question, if he already knew I was supposed to leave so soon, but his expression told me otherwise.

I sighed as I then charged up and roared to the Heavens, as a golden light burst into the sky, having transformed into a Super Saiyan.

I then with a mighty kick, sent Kalibak flying, and gave him no reprieve as I appeared above him and hammered him into the earth.

I charged downward with my knees onto his chest, causing him to howl in pain. As I finally stopped and stepped on his face, I snarled as I told him, "Wait for me big brother. I will rip out your left lung and make you eat it when I return.

Take it as payback for all the pain I endured under your tutelage."

Without waiting for his response, I flew away towards where my room was at, knowing I had to pack the few things I wanted to keep when going on this journey.
