Chapter 2030: Mage Guildmaster Mex
Grand Sage Mex
According to Questo, he was ranked one of the strongest mages among the kingdoms and it was also why Ress was in a position where kingdoms could not saunter in and invade Ress. They might not have the military might like certain kingdoms but their mages were capable of killing hundreds easily.
And while normal mages can take on ten or maybe hundreds on their own, Grand Sage Mex would be able to do so in the thousands and had earned quite a few accolades on his own. It was rumoured that he should be able to take down a Demon Lord on his own because of his reputation but there were no instances of it happening.
When Jin asked Questo why he did not move with the elites during that time when the elite military mages went to encounter the Demon Lord, Questo could not answer. "I am sorry I do not have such information.
That is not under the purview of the Adventurer's Guild, it's between the mages and the military." Jin could only deduce that there might be some friction between the mercenary/free mages compared to those within the military.
And to Jin's pleasant surprise, as much as the Grand Sage's words were sharp towards the King, he was not throwing any tempers at all and asked Jin to get to the point.
"Give me some autonomy on changing the military mage syllabus," Jin said directly. Even though the free mages and the mages under the military had different rules, it was apparently common knowledge that the Mages Guild held the classes. There were some spells that the military learned that were stronger, deadlier, and more precise than those of the Free Mage education.
Of course, the Free Mages would eventually be able to have that same calibre of magic with time, the military syllabus developed by the Mage Guild was specifically for War. Lesser incantation and yet stronger magic.
Sure, the magic incantations could be leaked out but those who did were severely punished where death was not enough for them as the rules of breaking it was to cripple the entire family finances as well as physical bodies.
The punishment was so severe that nobody ever dared to leak such magic out. And because the King is considered to be part of the military structure, Jin would be privy to such spell knowledge. When he saw those incantations, he immediately knew that they were still considered long.
Even without the use of Qi to aid his magic circuits, there were incantations that could be shortened even more significantly.
And to prove his point, he had decided to throw a fireball with the long incantation as well as shortening it based on his magic knowledge once in the field. Of course, no one knew that he cut short the incantation since he was busy thinking how to shorten it before throwing it out and people thought that he was quietly chanting the spell.
But no, he did not wish to change the military syllabus for shorter incantations but radically change how the military works. To prove his point, he needed to win the bet first in two weeks but Jin needed to start the ball rolling so that Mex could eventually approve it when he won the deal.
"What do you intend to do?" Mex asked.
"A brand new section for Commando Mages. Introduction of new magic weaponry and support systems. New addition in military tactics through the use of said magic weaponry and support systems. Even changing how the mages were to learn said magic in the military.
If it is successful, the Commando Mages can be broadened for wide military implementation and subsequent introduction of advanced tactics to be given to the Commando Mages to make sure they become the elite of the elites."
"In short, it's your curriculum to train up the ten weakest mages in Ress to be elites in two weeks?" Mex asked and Jin nodded his head. "And you want to implement this on a broad scale?" Read new chapters at m_v-l'e|m,p| y- r
"Yes, I had asked Questo and Gara. They said that your Mage Guild is responsible for military magic tactics. If we can revolutionise the military magic tactics to fight against Demons, we have the chance to take back the Northern Lands and expand northward. Eventually, the destruction and eradication of the demons." Jin said.
Even though he knew that he had the power to work on these 10 people, without the backing of the Grand Sage Mex, it would be hard to move things forward.
There was only so much a king that was supposed to be a puppet for the ministries able to hold the strings. The stereotypical view of the King to be the puppet was extremely strong so Jin was doing all these to ensure that he could make a major power grab in one quick act and eventually do what he needed to do to complete the trial.
Yes, the trial. Jin had so much in mind that he had forgotten there was a trial attached to the coming of this world. As much as he wants to power his way through things, if he does not handle the situation carefully, he might fail this trial.
It was to the point where he hoped that this trial was worth it and Baal would power up so much he did not take on one Elder Celestial but even ten Elder Celestials at the same time. (Obviously, that was not possible but he can only hope.)
"It's surprising that you asked me for permission when you literally killed an entire ministry and crippled various ministries departments that their family members had to take new roles. Fear and Resentment are rather high that assassinations could be possible against you."
"And yet, I am still here breathing. I asked for your permission because I do not wish to embarrass you in the event that you lose against me. After all, you are supposedly the strongest shield or spear of Ress. If I can defeat you, it speaks volumes against your reputation. In fact, I might tarnish it." Jin explained.
"On the other hand, if I asked your permission, it means that you are still respected for the King requested your advice to do things."
"Hmph. People might find me weak instead for allowing you to change the sacred military tactics that I developed."
"You could always say collaboration, the people also know that the King comes from other worlds. In fact, I heard it's a universal fact that the neighbouring kingdoms knew that too. That was also why the leash was tight against the kings to be the puppets of the Ministries so that other kings do not get jealous.
"Heh, so you knew the idea behind it. And here comes a particularly strong king that could upset the entire balance of the kingdoms if we are not careful." Grand Sage Mex stated and the other two guildmasters also silently nodded their heads.
"I am actually more surprised that Grand Sage Mex is not asking for a duel with the King. I thought this meeting would end up destroying the Tavern rather than amicably resolving this. I even prepared the money to pay the Tavern." Guildmaster Hocoin said.
"Heh, that guy knows that I am throwing a temper at him and yet he decides to ignore me. There is no reason to provoke this person any more than I should. It shows ill will from me." Mex said as he drank some goat milk that the Tavern Keeper had prepared for him. "Well, then I look forward to hearing some good news from you after two weeks. I would not expect much though."
"I can understand that." Jin shrugged and accepted such a fact.
"No, I don't think you understand," Questo added. "The elite mages that the ministers would use to compete against you were stronger than the elites that had been sent to deal with the Demon Lords. They are the stalwart defenders of Ress and their skills are well known in the neighbouring kingdoms."
"And they are the direct disciples of Grand Sage Mex," Hocoin added and Jin could see where this was going.
"Ah, I see." So instead of useless bantering with the King, he rather let his disciples run the show. If a small platoon of mages can defeat them, it would show that they have lots to learn."
"Something like that, and they most probably choose a Rank S- Dungeon to compete against your soldiers," Questo added.
"Hmm, I am afraid that I cannot bring out a Rank S- Dungeon that easily for the moment. As in I can only bring it out once a day." Jin said and then Questo shrugged his shoulders too.
"Then, it would be an easier competition for Mex's disciples." Hocoin felt the chances of Jin winning might get even smaller.
"However, as long as I win, I get my way, right?" Jin said and Mex nodded his head, allowing Jin to really get his way if he won.
