One Piece: Blackbeard the Mad

Chapter 3: Wano

"Pops, we got two ships starboard!"

An older pirate yelled from the crows nest. Hearing this, the entire crew's momentum changed. The usual jolly atmosphere was replaced with violent anticipation.

The crew started running back and forth preparing cannonballs and equipping weapons.

Inside of his room, Teech could hear people running and yelling. This caused him to reluctantly stop his workout.

Putting a shirt on he stepped outside of his room to see two ships in the distance.

And not just any ships, two pirate ships who were currently fighting each other. Even at a distance he could hear the clashing of swords and the firing of weapons. But, the noise didn't last long as the two ships recognized a new challenger had appeared.

"Captain! That's the Moby Dick! That's Whitebeard's ship!"

A random pirate yelled, causing both conflicting parties to halt in their tracks.

A man towering over 3.5 meters and holding an axe, looked at the Moby Dick in horror.

"We're dead, If we don't leave!"

Another man with a trident suddenly yelled.

"Wait. If we team up, we might be able to beat them! They're just one crew!"

Hearing this, the dreadful crews now saw a glimmer of hope. The two captains who were battling, looked at each other in agreement. If they wanted to survive, they needed to work together. They began cheering and hyping each other up.

"Pops! It seems both ships have now turned towards us. They seem to be teaming up."

Usually when two pirate ships team up against another, it usually spells doom for the unfortunate ship. But, this wasn't just any ship, this was the Moby Dick! Headed by the legendary Whitebeard! The crew began to get excited.

"Gurararara! Let them come! I want to see if they can give me a warmup."

Everyone gathered near the railings of the ship in preparation.

Teech was able to sneak into the crowd, hoping he wouldn't get seen.

*Grab*

"Huh?"

Before he knew it, Teech was lifted in the air like a lost puppy. Looking at the person who grabbed him, he immediately turned his gaze to the floor in shame!

He had been caught quite easily. Pops was holding him by the collar of his shirt.

"Don't think I didn't know your plan, Brat!"

The crew couldn't help but chuckle at Teech's antics. Pops took two steps before jumping. The amount of force he delivered with his jump caused the massive ship to rock back and forth. With Teech in hand, Pops came close to the crows nest before dropping him inside with the lookout.

Falling back to the deck, he grabbed his naginata and placed it on his shoulder.

"Damn it! Why does he have to embarrass me in style!"

The older pirate simply laughed.

*Boom*

*Boom*

Canon fire rained down upon the Moby Dick, which also returned fire.

*Crash*

Cannonballs smashed into the Moby Dick, surprisingly with little to no damage taken.

Teech was astonished with the lookout saying in a nonchalant manner.

"Got to love Adam wood!"

Seeing that the ships were doing no damage to the Moby Dick, they decided to board it directly.

'Big mistake.' Teech thought.

*Clash*

Everywhere you looked was carnage, blood spilled like a waterfall on the deck. Bodies flew from Whitebeard, swatting them like flies.

Just watching the fight, Teech felt his blood boiling, he wanted to get in there. But he knew better than to disobey Whitebeard. He didn't want to get scolded, he wasn't a child… Or maybe he was.

Looking towards Whitebeard he saw two men engage him. One holding an axe the other a trident. You could call it a fight when it came to the two aggressors, however, to Whitebeard, it was child's play.

The guy with the axe swung at Whitebeard only to be stopped by his weapon with relative ease.

Over and over the poor guy attacked violently, only to be effortlessly blocked.

The trident wielder who had been sitting back decided to try and sneak attack Pops from behind.

As if having eyes in the back of his head, he twisted his body and caught the man. The shocked pirate watched in horror as his own body was lifted and slammed into the deck.

*Crack*

The deck of the Moby Dick and the trident the pirate was holding shattered under the force. The guy was out cold!

The remaining aggressor practically pissed his pants as he turned tail and ran towards his ship.

"Tch. Coward." Spat, Teech.

Marco flew around the battlefield with his Devil Fruit harassing the stronger fighters.

At some point he dove down onto someone and delivered a devastating kick which sent the poor pirate flying over the railing and into the water.

*Splash*

"Haha! Wipeout!" Said Teech.

Honestly he was a bit disappointed that he didn't have any popcorn with him! This would have completed the set.

'Is this what it felt like to be a spectator in my fights back on Earth?! I never knew!' He thought.

The fights started to die down as almost all the invading pirates had either been killed or subdued.

The lookout beside Teech suddenly screamed at the top of his lungs making him wince.

"POPS!! THE SHIP!!"

Teech, confused, looked at the other ships and realized one that was bulldozing its way towards the Moby Dick.

On the ship was the captain who had run away. He screamed in a crazed frenzy.

"IF I'M DYING, I'M TAKING YOU WITH ME!! HAHAHA"

*Crunch*

The ship rocked violently as a dreadful sound reverberated off the Moby Dick's hull. The ship that hit the hull, collapsed in on itself, killing the captain on board.

Almost everyone on board was nearly knocked off their feet.

"That didn't sound good!" Teech said.

The lookout gritted his teeth and nodded in agreement.

Marco who was subduing someone hurriedly jumped in the air activating his Devil Fruit once more.

Taking flight he circled the side of the impact.

"Pops! It's bad! We need to port somewhere now and get it fixed!"

Whitebeard was a little angry but nodded and looked towards the navigator.

"What's the nearest island and do we have a Log pose for it?"

The man in question quickly brought out a map.

"The nearest island should be Wano! I believe we do have a Log pose!"

"Alright set sail for Wano!"

Most of the crew did everything they could to make the Moby Dick sail smoothly. The rest of the crew grabbed subdued pirates and threw them overboard.

"At least they have one ship left." Teech said.

As an apprentice, Teech was given a very important job. One that took priority when it came to post-battles. Now one might ask, what could be even more important than fixing the hull?

"Dammit!"

Teech threw a mop to the floor in frustration.

That's right! Cleaning the blood off the floor of the deck. This special job was given to the young apprentice, who took the job with stride. However, he didn't realize that blood would be so hard to clean up! He spent hours cleaning a small portion of the ship.

At some point he grabbed a sponge and tirelessly scrubbed the deck only to have little to no progress.

Gritting his teeth, he couldn't understand why it wasn't working?

"Pft."

Teech heard people snickering behind him.

Looking back he finally noticed that nearly half the crew, including Pops, were trying their best not to laugh.

"Are you guys hiding something?"

Teech forced out a smile but it held a different emotion underneath.

"HAHAHAHA!!"

The crew started laughing hysterically. Marco being at the front was holding his stomach while laughing. Stepping forward he brought out a bucket containing a weird liquid.

"You're supposed to use this when dealing with blood stains!"

"And why didn't you tell me?"

"Because you seemed too excited to do something! You ran out before we could get it ready!"

Turning red in embarrassment, Teech snatched the bucket from Marco who was still trying to stop his laughter.

Looking up, Teech saw a seagull flying above.

"A seagull? Wait, doesn't that mean…"

Looking into the horizon he saw something! It was minuscule, but it was there.

"Pops, I think I see Wano!" Yelled the Lookout.

Finally, 2 days after the battle, they had arrived at Wano.

"Wow!" Teech was in awe.

Even if he was a little worried about how the ship was going to hold up if there were any obstacles like there were in the anime.

After some time, Teech finally got a good look at the start of Wano. On all sides cliff-faces resembling walls surrounding a city. A massive waterfall poured down, as gargantuan koi fish swam upstream. The sight itself was breathtaking yet it confused him a little. He knew something about the borders keeping water in but the amount pouring out seemed to be endless.

"Pops! How are we going to get up there?" Teech asked worried.

Instead of answering, Whitebeard simply smiled mysteriously.

"Oh no. Hopefully she can take it." He silently prayed.

Just like in the anime, the crew was able to grapple not two but three giant koi. Due to the massive size of the ship, an extra koi than the Thousand Sunny was needed in order to traverse the waterfall.

*creak*

The ropes attached to the koi tightened as they began making their way towards the waterfall.

Going up the three koi quickly made their way up.

"Oooh sh…" Teech yelled and hurriedly grabbed onto the railing like many of the crew did.

*Crash*

The front of the ship lifted off the sea into the air. The keel of the ship slammed into the waterfall.

"A ship isn't supposed to do this!" Teech yelled.

Looking down he saw that the Moby Dick was now completely vertical. If he let go, it would be a long drop to the bottom.

Just the thought of falling made Teech tighten his arms on the railing.

Whitebeard simply grabbed onto his chair which was bolted to the deck.

"Gurarararara!!"

*Bang*

The ship shook as it slammed into a protruding cliff-face, going through it like a hot knife through butter.

Finally after several grueling minutes the ship had finally reached the top.

*Crash*

The kirk once again slammed against the water. The Moby Dick had survived the ordeal and successfully made it to Wano…

*Creak*

Or maybe not.

*Crack*

*Crack*

Itachi Port, Kuri. In the year 1494, the Whitebeard Pirates were shipwrecked at Wano.

"Cough, cough. Ugh!" Teech grabbed his head as he spat out water.

Looking around as he climbed further on shore, he saw that everyone had pretty much survived with little to no damage.

The whole situation was a little familiar to him but he couldn't put his finger on it.

It was hard for him to think about anything after what just happened. The ship nearly fell apart causing them to fall into the water. Luckily the waves had brought them and their ship ashore.

Grabbing his chest, Teech could feel his hearts beating rapidly.

He was more frightened than he thought possible but his face betrayed that fear and instead showed a crazed almost hysterical smile.

"Oda…why?" Teech laughed.

The group began to gather and talk. The shipwright assessed the damage to the hull and sighed.

"Pops, it'll take at least a week to repair."

A woman pitched in.

"A lot of the cargo has water damage."

"Most of the supplies were washed out to sea. We're going to need more food and supplies. Who wants to go?"

They continued to talk but Teech ultimately ignored them. The feeling of familiarity kept gnawing at him and he couldn't figure out why. Maybe by adventuring the lands of Wano he could understand.

Teech, who wanted to get off and explore, was stopped by Pops as he looked off into the lands of Wano.

"Pops?!"

"There's someone dangerous coming. Stay near the boat." He said before walking towards the treeline.

'Who the hell could be dangerous enough to make Whitebeard be cautious? And why are they in Wano?'

Teech stood still in contemplation as his eyes slowly widened in understanding.

"Oden." He whispered.

He finally remembered why this situation felt so familiar. This was when the Whitebeard pirates had recruited Oden, a notorious samurai from Wano.

The reason he remembered this bit was that this was one of the few times Pops had ever fought somewhat seriously. It wasn't his full strength, but roughly close.

"This is going to be fun!" Teech watched in fascination.

An orange blur suddenly appeared out from the treeline causing Whitebeard to halt. It was fast, almost too fast for Teech to see clearly! But he knew exactly what it was, rather who it was. Oden!

Pops stared at the incoming attacker with a fierce glint in his eyes. He raised his naginata in an attack position.

"Welcome! I have been waiting for you, Pirates!"

Oden yelled as he drew his katanas and lunged at Whitebeard.

*crackle*

The clash between weapons was a sight to behold as red lightning sprouted from the impact.

Teech's eyes widened as he felt himself stumble, he didn't know why but he felt extremely weak and nearly fainted. Thankfully due to his abnormal body he didn't.

"Conqueror's Haki!" Teech grinned.

His body practically shivered in excitement at the thought of being able to use it.

Returning his attention to the two individuals he saw several of Oden's retainers appear but didn't engage.

Only a moment had passed before he saw Pops clashing relentlessly with Oden.

Their weapons became a blur as they fought.

Whitebeard used the shaft of the naginata to block several attacks from the samurai, before delivering a strike of his own which Oden dodged.

"I can't even see them fight properly! Hahahaha!" Teech began laughing hysterically.

The other crew members were shocked by not only the fight but also by Teech himself. Only the strongest members of the crew could manage to stay awake from Conquerors Haki, yet here he was. The official weakest of the crew, no… an apprentice, had managed to stay awake.

Getting irritated, Pops rapidly spun the naginata and using the momentum he slammed his weapon on the floor.

*Boom*

Oden, who was trying to retreat, was hit with the shockwave of the attack and thrown dozens of meters backwards.

Oden didn't take long to recover as he flipped and landed on his feet.

The samurai then dashed towards Pops once more.

"I've been waiting for someone like you! My name is Kozuki Oden! I don't know who you are but please… let me join your crew!"

"Huh?!"

This caught Pops off guard but he didn't dwell on it as Oden jumped into the air.

Teech smiled.

"Here it is!" He said.

Oden's arms seemed to increase in size as he reared his katanas back and shouted the name of his attack.

"Oden Two-Sword Style! Paradise Waterfall!"

In return a white hued orb appeared on Pop's left fist as he reached back.

When the two attacks collided they both yelled.

"Ahhhhhh!!" x2

The standstill sent wind blowing past Teech's grinning face. The sheer power the two held was something he wanted!

After what felt like several seconds, Oden's arms gave out as Pop's fist smashed against the samurai's face.

*Shatter*

As if glass had broken, green cracks appeared mid-air as Oden was struck with the full brunt of Pop's Devil Fruit power.

As his fist followed through, the poor samurai was sent flying high into the air before hitting the ground hard in the distant forest.

"Oooh! That had to have hurt." Teech slightly winced.

It played out very similar to the story where Oden continued to pester Whitebeard over and over about joining the crew, which Pops gave a flat refusal.

Oden even brought supplies for the crew and partied with them. Of course, Teech was sulking in the corner due to not being allowed to drink.

"Transmigrate, they said! Relatively early, they said! Such bull!" He muttered under his breath.

His sulking didn't last long as his ears picked up on an important conversation between Pops and Oden.

Oden moved his arms in an animated manner while talking excitedly.

"There are tons of things I don't know, aren't there?! So let's go out to sea! Show me the world I've never seen!"

But his enthusiasm was stopped by an irritated Whitebeard, pointing at his head.

"You're not the type to serve under someone! If you come on board… consequences will follow."

"When selfish people like you come together… The team falls apart quickly!"

Pop's face developed an uncomfortable distant look.

"I should know… after all it happened to my last Pirate crew."

Hearing this conversation, Teech couldn't help but want to ask about Pop's previous crew. Especially the captain of said crew, Rocks D. Xebec! Maybe one day he will ask.
