Chapter 6: Clash
…
…
*Silence*
The surrounding crowd was stunned! Too shocked to even react to what just happened. After a moment of silent awe, Vista, the defeated swordsman began laughing.
"You've gotten a lot better, Teech! It is a surprise that you've managed to catch up to me in such little time!"
Hearing the lighthearted compliment, Teech chucked.
"No need for such modesty, Vista! This was just luck. If we fought again, I am sure I wouldn't be able to win."
Vista nodded, a hint of pride etched on his face. The pride stemmed from Teech's humility. He felt that the young apprentice had massive potential, even more than his own. Though he wouldn't outwardly say it.
The crowd who was too stunned finally got their bearings as they cheered!
Some complimented Teech while others cursed him for winning due to them betting on his loss.
As the crew gathered around Teech, he became increasingly annoyed by their enthusiasm. His annoyance, although present, was quickly quelled as a small voice sounded out.
The voice was nearly drowned out by the crew's talking but Teech heard it clearly.
"Nii-chan!"
A small boy with a shaved head and a black haired ponytail, ran towards Teech. The boy's pink kimono with a peach design, fluttered as he ran.
*Grab*
The small boy ran to Teech's leg as he hugged him. The young boy was Kozuki Momonosuke, the son of Oden and Toki.
"Momo! What are you doing, here?! You should be with your mother!"
Teech worriedly placed his wooden cutlass on the floor before picking up Momo as he pouted.
"But, nii-chan!"
"No buts! It's dangerous when we are fighting! You could get hurt!"
As he carried the young Momo, he was given a path through the crowd. Walking along the deck of the ship he was met with a worried Toki who visibly calmed when she saw Teech carrying Momo.
"Thank you, Teech! I don't know why he keeps causing trouble."
Toki chuckled as she saw Momo pouting at his unsuccessful attempt at escaping.
"Well I mean, look who his father is! Oden is practically the definition of trouble."
Teech was suddenly hit on the back of his head.
"Hey!" He said in frustration.
When he turned around he saw Oden standing behind him, obviously feeling wronged by being the scapegoat for Momo's behavior.
"I'm not that bad!" Oden said in denial.
This caused both Teech and Toki to look at each other with raised eyebrows.
They continued their conversation when Toki suddenly stumbled. This caused both Teech and Oden to warily catch her.
"Are you okay, Toki?"Asks Oden.
She started to sweat a little but managed to speak steadily, showing that it was not so bad.
"Yes, I'm fine. I'm just feeling a little nauseous, is all. I should be fine after some rest."
Sensing the familiar signs, Teech could only smile.
'It looks like it shouldn't be too long now.' Thought, Teech.
…
After leaving Foodvalten, the Whitebeard pirates set out on a hunt. A treasure hunt, to be exact!
They had gotten wind that on a certain mysterious island, many pirate ships had gone missing, giving way to the possibility of an accumulation of riches.
The name of this mysterious island was Kinoko island. The name resonated with Teech as he remembers that this island was once used by Luffy and Foxy. Though he was pretty sure this island was non-canon he found it surprising that it actually existed!
This brought ideas that the other non-canon islands may be real! Whether this was true or not was to be determined. Teech needed to find information on that and quickly!
Back to the topic of Kinoko island, Teech couldn't remember much. The only bit of information being that it was not a good idea to eat any of the plant life there, especially the mushrooms!
It was around a week-long trip to Kinoko island, and during that time Marco had confirmed Teech's thought.
Toki was pregnant with a second child! This elicited a heartwarming interaction between the husband and wife. Though some of the crew wanted to express their displeasure of another young Oden running around, Teech glared at them, stopping them in their tracks.
…
"Pops! I see it! Kinoko island is up ahead!" Yelled the lookout causing many of the crew to gaze into the horizon.
As they approached the island many of the crew couldn't help but notice fish rapidly rushing away from the Moby Dick and the island. This confused Teech as this didn't look like normal fish behavior.
It was as if the fish were running from something.
"Maybe another sea monster." He mused.
However, a sudden cry from the Lookout immediately changed his idea.
"Pops! The Roger pirates are on the other side of the island!"
'…' Teech was too stunned to even think. Gradually a crazed smile appeared on his face at the implication.
The look on his face terrified nearby crew mates, but Teech paid no heed to their opinions.
"This is it! I get to see it!"
"I get to see Pops at his full strength!"
…
As they docked on the island Toki refrained from disembarking, due to her current circumstances. Making sure some of the crew stayed to look after her, the rest excitedly set off.
Same as the fish, the animals were disturbed into getting as far away as they could. Birds even flew away from the island, signifying the brewing of a natural disaster.
Oden in particular was adamant about fighting the Roger Pirates as he and two others raced ahead.
Pops even showed a hint of enthusiasm at the thought of clashing with Roger once more. He laughed as he looked back at the crew.
"Gurararara! I'm gonna go greet Roger!"
He suddenly started bounding from tree to tree.
Teech, watching them leave, held his cutlass to steady it as he hurriedly chased after them. Many of the crew tried to stop him but were unsuccessful as he easily evaded them.
As Teech ran through the forest he kept muttering to himself in a crazed way.
"I have to see it! I have to witness for myself just how far the gap is!"
His speed increased as he raced through the unusual jungle avoiding mushrooms at every turn.
Finally he saw a cliff ahead which would give him a good look of the area.
As he reached the top, he got there just in time to watch Oden about to confront Roger.
…
*Clack Clack Clack*
Oden ran at full speed after easily defeating a group of pirates.
As he approached the other end of the island he saw two people about to engage him, only to be stopped by a man in a red coat.
"Wait, Gaban, Rayleigh! I don't want you to get hurt!"
The man ran past them while laughing. At the impending clash, Teech's crazed smile increased.
Approaching Roger himself, even Oden could tell the man was strong. The samurai smiled at the strong challenger.
"I smell a beast!"
Nearing each other, Roger yelled .
"Hey, samurai!"
At an almost unbelievable speed, Roger unsheathed his cutlass and slashed towards Oden.
"Divine Departure!"
Teech watched in awe as a red lightning surged from Roger's cutlass, unleashing a black air slash that glowed red.
*Schwww*
Teech could only see Oden for a second before the samurai was sent flying.
*Crash Crash Crash*
Oden's rag dolling figure flew and shattered several trees before crashing into the base of a thick mushroom tree.
Teech was shocked! Seeing the clash between Haki was usually the emission of red lightning, but this was different! The Haki was materialized allowing everyone to see it!
Although momentarily worried, Teech saw how quickly Oden recovered causing him to sigh in relief.
*Rustle*
Teech's attention was immediately grabbed by a hulking figure jumping from tree to tree.
Landing on one tree the figure showed itself to be Whitebeard as he bounded from the last tree towards Roger.
"Here it is!"
Teech watched as both combatants' weapons surged with red lightning.
Pop's body flew towards Roger aggressively as reared his naginata back.
*Crack*
Roger stepped hard, cracking the ground as he swung his cutlass.
Pop eagerly welcomed the attack with one of his own.
*BOOOM*
*SCHWW*
As their weapons were about to clash they were suddenly stopped as if an invisible force were preventing the two from touching.
Red and black lightning wreaked havoc throughout the area.
The ground shattered from the impact!
Trees were ripped out of the ground.
Wind currents nearly knocked Teech off of his feet even when he was a great distance away.
Even Oden watched in awe as he was forced to stab his katanas into the ground to not get blown back.
The clash between Roger and Whitebeard lasted several seconds.
Gritting their teeth, both Pops and Roger pushed harder.
Their weapons almost touch, giving a feeling of foreboding to Teech who quickly dropped to the ground and watched.
*BOOOM*
The clouds were forcibly pushed away by the clash between titans!
The surrounding environment fell victim to the intense clash, to the point that the island's topography was being changed.
A shockwave shot out, knocking almost everyone on the island off their feet.
The Moby Dick on the other side of the island was nearly pushed on its side, scaring everyone on board.
Teech's smile reached a point where one would call it demonic!
"AAHAHAHAHA!! THIS IS FUCKING ANARCHY!!" He screams.
"I want it!"
"I want this power!! No matter what!!"
The desire for such strength made such an impact on Teech, that he was nearly going crazy at the thought of wielding it!
He finally saw it! The peak of what Haki could do. And safe to say, Teech wasn't disappointed. To a normal person, seeing such a display would make them cower if they were strong enough to even witness it. But, Teech wasn't normal!
As their clash finally stopped Teech made his way down alongside the rest of the crew. The Roger Pirates were now face to face with the Whitebeard Pirates!
Both captains were laughing.
Teech, seeing both men, who were probably considered the strongest in the world, both have ridiculous mustaches. He mused to himself.
'Maybe, I should grow one myself… no, just kidding. I'm gonna grow myself an actual beard and live up to my name as Blackbeard!'
The brief laugh gave way to an intimidating silence as both groups stared at each other. The captains said in unison.
"Whatever you've got, hand it over!" x2
"Get them!" Yelled Marco.
The two groups had finally started their legendary battle.
*Clank*
Weapons clash at the two crews commences combat.
The division commanders of the Whitebeard Pirates face off against the strongest of Roger's crew.
Marco, who was usually harassing opponents from above, could no longer attempt such a thing. He was forced to focus on one opponent as one mistake could lead to a serious injury.
Jozu, Thatch, Vista and other commanders were forced to do the same!
In such a battle it was easily distinguishable as to what the dynamic of both crews was. While Pop's focused on "adopting" orphans into his crew, leading to increased numbers, Roger focused on unique individuals.
Although he was rulunctant to say, Pops knew that he sheltered his crew a bit too much, leading to a decreased in potential.
The dynamic for the Whitebeard Pirates was quantity, while Roger's was quality! Of course there were some weaklings that were on Roger's crew that probably didn't fight much. Be that as it may, even the young apprentices of Roger's crew could handle their own against adults of the Whitebeard Pirates.
A young red haired teen with a straw hat weaved through the battle.
He dodged weapons left and right, using his agility and cunning to outmaneuver his attackers.
Another teen with blue hair and a prominent red nose screamed in terror as he followed closely behind the former.
…
Dodging under a sword, Teech grabbed the hand holding the sword before delivering an uppercut.
*Thud*
A relatively unknown pirate from Roger's crew fell face first into the ground, clearly unconscious.
Teech realized quickly that this battle, although dangerous, was weird! It wasn't bloody in the least! Sure, there were wounds inflicted that could be considered painful but never fatal.
The battle was almost like a test! This sudden realization made Teech back off of his usual bloodthirsty fighting style. His usual blood soaked cutlass, still gleamed from its previous polishing.
This didn't go unnoticed by many of the powerful fighters.
Whitebeard, who was battling Roger couldn't help but be thankful for Teech understanding the hidden meaning of this battle.
Even Roger himself took notice.
"You've got yourself a good brat there, Newgate!"
"Yes I do."
A brief smile adorned Pop's face before they returned to their fight.
On the first day of their glorious battle, the crews reached an unrelenting stalemate.
The weaklings of both crews were quickly weeded out leaving the stronger members to do battle.
On the second day, a storm had hit the island leaving both crews soaked.
A man with glasses and a prominent scar over his right eye, stood unfazed as he gracefully moved through the rain.
His long strawberry blonde hair swayed as rain soaked him.
This was the right hand man of Roger, the first mate of the Roger Pirates, Silvers Rayleigh!
Two members of the Whitebeard Pirates attacked him not knowing the strength he possessed.
Quickly he slashed at the two attackers.
Cutting both of them!
The wounds he delivered weren't fatal in the slightest, obviously showing how much he held back.
Seeing this, Marco became irritated that this man wasn't taking them seriously!
"Don't push your luck! Take this fight seriously!"
He blitzed Rayleigh, using his Devil Fruit powers he delivered a kick.
*Boom*
To Marco's surprise and utter shock, Rayleigh had simply lifted a finger and stopped his kick in its tracks. The slightest flicker of red lightning sparked from his finger.
The clash of their attacks caused the surrounding ground to crack.
"I'm always serious. Young man."
Rayleigh's voice was full of confidence and calmness. It was really unnerving to even Teech as he watched in amusement how the parrot had embarrassed himself.
Watching closely Teech saw how Rayleigh grabbed Marco's foot before slamming into the ground.
"Ooh."
Teech slightly winced as he could almost feel the attack.
*Woosh*
*Clank*
While Teech was distracted by Rayleigh's overwhelming prowess, another of Roger's crew had snuck up and struck.
Teech, although distracted, was acutely aware of his surroundings picking up a slight noise behind him.
This allowed him to react in time as he drew his cutlass to block against the attackers sword.
Teech successfully blocked but winced as he noticed his opponent's strength.
He was pushed back by the impact, knocking him several meters before he could stabilize himself.
Looking up he recognized this man, even if he was relatively unknown. His chestnut shaped hair was familiar to him.
In giant bold letters, the man's name was displayed in his shirt. Taro!
"You really should be more careful, boy! This is a battle, not a show!"
In that brief confrontation, Teech was able to analyze that this man, while strong, was weaker than Vista.
Though that did not mean he wouldn't take him seriously!
Not responding to Taro's provocation, Teech simply held his sword in an unusual manner before hurling it at the man.
Surprised, the man blocked the flying sword by knocking it into the air.
Returning his attention to Teech he was shocked that the young man was already in the air clutching the cutlass with one hand as he slashed down at him.
*Clank*
Reaching a stalemate, Teech made a bold move.
Using his free hand, he grabbed his opponent's blade by the dull side.
Giving an opening, Teech head butted Taro.
Blood began to trickle down his nose along with the rain as he stumbled away from Teech.
Taro was shocked and frightened.
'This kid is crazy!'
Seeing Taro's hesitation, Teech dashed towards him!
Over and over Teech slashed at him, overwhelming Taro as he could barely keep up.
Trying to make an opening, Taro recklessly slashed at Teech.
*Clank*
Taro winced as Teech struck dangerously close to the handle causing his hand to go numb.
As Teech hit the handle, Taro's sword was knocked upward leaving his own body completely defenseless.
Taking the opportunity, Teech did a sweeping kick, knocking Taro off of his feet.
"Ugh!"
Struggling to open his eyes due to the rain, Taro found a cutlass dangerously close to his face causing his eyes to widen.
"This fight is over!" In an almost emotionless voice, Teech spoke.
Taro grimaced as he tried the get up. His arrogance didn't allow him to lose to such a young man.
*Thud*
Seeing Taro not give up, Teech delivered a blow to his head with the blunt side of his cutlass rendering him unconscious.
The opponent was strong, but not enough to peak Teech's interest into making it a long drawn out fight.
