One Piece : Captain, We’ve Arrived at Laugh Tale

Chapter 122: Chapter 122 : Luffy, Where Is The Gap Between You And Kaido

Marine Headquarters, Marineford

In the Fleet Admiral's office, hearing Carl's confident tone, everyone exchanged bewildered glances.

Intelligence had reported that Kaido suddenly departed from Wano Country and ventured into Paradise—the first half of the Grand Line—presumably hunting for the Straw Hat Pirates. But then he'd inexplicably returned to the New World, and Marine intelligence had gone silent on the matter.

Left with uncertainty, Garp had decided to contact the Straw Hats directly.

His concern for Luffy's safety had prompted the call to Carl.

"You little brat Carl, explain how you supposedly scared off Kaido! If your explanation doesn't satisfy me, next time we meet, I'll let you taste my Fist of Love!"

As Garp posed his question, everyone in the Fleet Admiral's office perked up, listening intently.

"It's quite simple," Carl replied casually. "Doesn't Kaido love to use his flame breath? I just borrowed your meteor fist technique and launched a trash Devil Fruit straight toward his open dragon mouth. The big oaf was so terrified he fled immediately!"

Garp: ...

Sengoku: ...

Vice Admiral Tsuru: ...

The Three Admirals: ...

Was that... actually viable? After a moment's consideration, they realized it might indeed work.

Carl continued: "I've heard Kaido has been captured numerous times, yet you Marines consistently fail to execute him. They say hanging him breaks the chains, and guillotines shatter against his neck. You've needlessly complicated a problem that could be solved with a single Devil Fruit. Is the so-called 'Buddha of Wisdom' really deserving of his reputation?"

Facing Carl's pointed question, all eyes turned to Sengoku.

Sengoku's face flushed crimson. He habitually carried prayer beads as a symbol of his wisdom, yet now a mere pirate youth questioned his intelligence. The humiliation was palpable!

"Enough! We have nothing to discuss with pirates. The Marines will never allow criminals to roam free. You Straw Hat Pirates should watch your backs!"

Sengoku interjected sharply before abruptly disconnecting the Den Den Mushi.

Garp immediately protested: "Sengoku, why such haste? I wasn't finished talking to my grandson!"

Sengoku slammed his fist on the desk: "Garp, cease all contact with pirates henceforth! Don't forget your position as a Marine Hero!"

Garp merely picked his nose with indifference, offering no rebuttal to Sengoku's admonishment. He simply turned, grabbed a handful of rice crackers, and resumed eating. As long as he knew Luffy was safe, little else mattered to him.

Sengoku felt both exasperated and helpless at Garp's typical nonchalance.

He quickly changed the subject: "Ahem, I'll have logistics send us a couple of worthless Devil Fruits. If Kaido dares cause trouble again, we'll force-feed him one. Let's see if he survives that!"

Vice Admiral Tsuru and the Three Admirals exchanged meaningful glances upon hearing this pronouncement. Had Sengoku truly never considered this method before?

Thinking about it further, it wasn't just Sengoku—none of them had suggested this approach either.

Carl's apparent disdain for Sengoku extended to the entire Marine organization. Yet his point was undeniably logical. Everyone knew consuming two Devil Fruits simultaneously was fatal. Why had no one proposed using this method against Kaido before?

After all, a Devil Fruit might cost around 100 million berries—a bargain price for eliminating one of the Four Emperors.

Akainu appeared particularly enthused by the idea. Though he harbored animosity toward Carl, his hatred for Kaido ran deeper. The Emperor had frequently raided Marine Headquarters, flaunting his supposed immortality. Now that they had identified a potential method to kill him, Akainu almost hoped Kaido would return.

Meanwhile, on the deserted island...

After being hung up on, Carl could only shake his head helplessly.

The "Buddha of Wisdom" Sengoku was apparently quite thin-skinned. Unable to accept that he'd overlooked such a simple solution, he'd cut the conversation short rather than continue the discussion.

"Hey, Carl, Kaido was clearly defeated by us together. Why did you tell them we scared him away?" Luffy asked with confusion while gnawing on a massive meat bone.

"Luffy, you probably don't know yet," Usopp interjected, eager to explain. "After you fell unconscious, Kaido managed to surface and happened to climb onto a floating tree trunk. Carl couldn't fight alone in his condition, so he bluffed with the Devil Fruit threat to scare Kaido off."

Luffy's eyes widened in shock: "WHAT?! That Kaido could climb out of the sea by himself?!"

His tone carried such disbelief that he momentarily forgot about his meal.

Luffy had fallen asleep with complete peace of mind, convinced that Kaido would drown after falling into the ocean. He never expected that Kaido would be not only incredibly durable but also remarkably fortunate.

This realization left Luffy deeply unsettled.

Carl posed a question: "Luffy, what do you perceive as the gap between yourself and Kaido?"

Luffy responded gravely: "My physical strength doesn't match Kaido's, and my Armament Haki is vastly inferior. If I had only just learned to infuse Conqueror's Haki like we did against him, I'd stand no chance of victory!"

"Exactly!"

Carl snapped his fingers in agreement. "However, recognizing the gap is valuable—at least we know which direction our efforts should take. From now on, the Straw Hat Pirates will maintain a low profile for a while. We'll focus on mastering Conqueror's Haki infusion, advanced Armament Haki techniques, and strengthening our physical constitutions."

Luffy pressed his straw hat firmly onto his head and declared solemnly: "All training will be arranged by Carl."

Carl nodded, then glanced at the others. "Additionally, everyone's current strength remains insufficient. You might dominate in Paradise, but the New World presents dangers of an entirely different magnitude. Therefore, we'll reduce our sailing pace and intensify training. Everyone should prepare mentally for what's ahead!"

Zoro immediately brought his three swords together in a salute, grinning fiercely. "This is how it should have been from the beginning—the previous training was far too gentle!"

Zoro had been deeply troubled by his inability to help against Kaido. His prideful spirit couldn't accept such weakness. Consequently, no matter how grueling the exercise regime, he would voice no complaints.

Sanji extinguished his cigarette decisively. "Bring it on! I want to awaken my full Haki potential immediately!"

Usopp appeared slightly intimidated but puffed out his chest regardless. "I, the Great Captain Usopp, am a man of courage! I also possess the power of the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Phantom! I won't falter during training!"

"No problem! YEAH!"

Seeing even the typically timid Usopp make such a bold declaration, Jango, Mr. 3, and Chopper responded enthusiastically, raising their fists in solidarity.

As for Nami, Robin, Tashigi, and Hina, the four women exchanged glances before nodding their agreement to Carl. Women in this world were often disadvantaged in combat, frequently unable to protect themselves, let alone others. If they could genuinely become stronger, they would certainly embrace the opportunity.

"Carl's in charge!"

Law spoke up as well: "Currently, my Heart Pirates are linked with your Straw Hats in the Marines' eyes. Please include us in your training regime. As compensation, the Heart Pirates will provide medical support throughout the training program!"

Bepo, Shachi, and Penguin all nodded earnestly, regarding Carl with hopeful expressions.
