Chapter 15: Chapter 15 - Chronos New Bounty
Marine Headquarters: Bounties and Development
At Marine Headquarters, in the Fleet Admiral's office, Sengoku (also known as "Steelbone Kong") was idly looking at two beautiful photos of Marine women. With one hand under the desk, his eyes began to glaze over, getting closer and closer.
"Report, Fleet Admiral Kong! Latest news from Major General Kuzan!"
"I $%... come in!" Sengoku roared towards the door with a stern face.
His adjutant, the fleet admiral's nephew, trembled as he entered. Oh no! The boss seems to be in a bad mood today.
"Put it down and you can leave!" Sengoku glared at his adjutant. If you weren't my wife's nephew, I'd send you to the New World as cannon fodder for sure.
"Yes, sir! I'll be going now..." The adjutant, his great-nephew, completed placing the documents, saluting, and turning around at the fastest speed of his life. He only breathed a sigh of relief after stepping out the door.
"Did Auntie make Uncle sleep on the couch again last night?"
To the esteemed Fleet Admiral Sengoku,
Vice Admiral Garp, after three months of pursuit, encountered the Roger Pirates this morning in the South Sea. After more than ten minutes of intense fighting, due to certain uncontrollable factors, the enemy barely managed to escape. This battle showcased the might and power of our Navy!
Furthermore, in this battle, we discovered important intelligence: the enemy's rookie, "Four-Eyed Kid" Marshall D. Chronos, ate a Devil Fruit after the battle with the Flying Pirates. According to Vice Admiral Garp's assessment, the fruit is suspected to be a Zoan-type Mythical Zoan.
Signed: Your Great-Nephew Adjutant
"He's been with me for so long, he's finally making some progress! But that kid from the Roger Pirates also ate a Devil Fruit, huh..." Sengoku's mood brightened considerably after reading his great-nephew's report. At least this time, his great-nephew used respectful language; his efforts to nurture him weren't in vain!
"Tell Admiral Sengoku and Vice Admiral Tsuru to come see me!" Sengoku ordered his great-nephew outside, then picked up the documents and sat back down. Devil Fruits are incredibly diverse. While Marine Headquarters has a Devil Fruit Encyclopedia, most of the entries are for common Zoan-types and Paramecia-types. Logia and Mythical Zoan types are rarely documented. Mythical Zoan types, in particular, only have two or three entries, including Admiral Sengoku's Human-Human Fruit, Model: Daibutsu.
Zoan-types inherently provide the greatest boost to physical abilities among the three categories. Mythical Zoan types, while enhancing the body, also grant the user unique abilities, such as Sengoku's Buddha Shockwave or Marco's healing flames. Now, this Chronos has also eaten a Mythical Zoan, so his bounty can no longer be just 50 Berries...
"Fleet Admiral Kong!"
Soon, the imposing and burly Sengoku and Vice Admiral Tsuru entered.
"This is the latest intel, Tsuru; take a look!" Sengoku handed the report to Vice Admiral Tsuru. Sengoku, with his 2.78-meter height, would have made Tsuru practically climb on his neck to read it. With Tsuru holding it, Sengoku could simply lean down to see. Besides, Sengoku often looked at other things during meetings.
"According to Garp, that kid's Devil Fruit-transformed right arm even made his fist numb, and he can emit shockwaves. If he hadn't shattered the frozen sea this time, the Roger Pirates wouldn't have escaped. Sengoku, you also ate a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit; how much do you think we should raise this kid's bounty to?"
This time, Sengoku ignored Vice Admiral Tsuru. While Tsuru was usually rational, she was currently at an age where maternal instincts were overflowing, and she particularly favored cute children...
"Hmm... I think we should temporarily raise it to 10 million Berries! Five million for the Devil Fruit and five million for being part of the Roger Pirates."
Sengoku thought for a long time before giving this answer. A Mythical Zoan user shouldn't normally be so cheap, but the kid was only twelve years old and had only recently eaten the Devil Fruit. How strong could he really be? Developing a Devil Fruit isn't just about physical strength; it also requires intelligence. Sengoku, for instance, was a scholar from a young age, with a vast cultural background, which allowed him to develop the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Daibutsu, to a level where it could contend with Whitebeard's Tremor-Tremor Fruit.
What kind of education could that kid have, coming out to be a pirate so early?
"Chrono, I can't teach you."
After the battle with Garp, Rayleigh, the great swordsman, had intended to teach the three rookies swordsmanship for their future self-preservation. But after seeing the three demonstrate their skills, Rayleigh changed his mind.
Buggy was out of the question; he was just there to make up the numbers, and Rayleigh never had high hopes for him. Shanks, however, had excellent swordsmanship talent, understandable for someone who would later become one of the Four Emperors relying on a single sword.
But Chronos? He was completely a "brute force over skill" kind of guy. The sword in his hand wasn't used for slashing at all; he relied entirely on sheer brute force to smash people...
"Chronos, you should go learn hand-to-hand combat from Jabba instead. A person's energy is limited. Your talent for physical combat is excellent, and you've eaten a Zoan-type Devil Fruit. Learning hand-to-hand combat and developing your Devil Fruit are your best paths forward."
