-Year 1508 of the Sea Calendar.-
At the West Blue Marine Headquarters, the floating G-1 base:
"Ensign Hina, reporting to Vice Admiral Arashi!"
A clear, melodious voice rang out across the training ground.
The speaker was a female officer with long, light pink hair, wearing purple sunglasses on her forehead, gloves on her hands, and the standard Marine uniform.
Her face displayed a mix of excitement and nervousness as she looked at the imposing figure before her—a towering, muscular man.
He was Vice Admiral Arashi, a legend within the Marines, the highest-ranking officer of the West Blue division, and the most revered and respected leader in the region.
"Full of energy, I see!" Arashi remarked with a laugh. "Even as a female officer, your aura is no weaker than those two troublemakers, Smoker and Buggy!"
It had been nearly a year since Arashi's battle with Whitebeard. The West Blue division had developed rapidly during this time.
With support from Vegapunk's technological advancements, the entire base, along with New Ohara and the Sky Island research facilities, had adopted a new electrical energy system.
The communications system had also transitioned to modern electromagnetic and electronic signal-based transponders.
For Arashi, building a simple natural power station was a straightforward task, leading him to ponder whether the origins of Devil Fruits might have been for the sake of human convenience in the first place.
"They may be strong, but Hina won't lose to them!" Hina declared loudly.
"Good! As a Marine, you must maintain this momentum to uphold your sense of justice!" Arashi nodded approvingly.
Over the past year, younger officers like Smoker, Buggy, Ashura, and Hina have made tremendous progress.
Smoker, Buggy, and Ashura, in particular, had begun to grasp the concept of Haki. Their rapid growth impressed Arashi greatly.
Through rigorous and gruelling training, Smoker and Buggy's strength had far surpassed their original trajectories.
At this rate, Buggy might even awaken his Bara Bara no Mi (Chop-Chop Fruit) powers within the next ten or twenty years.
As for Smoker, the Moku Moku no Mi (Smoke-Smoke Fruit) no longer seemed to be his future.
However, that didn't concern Arashi—he could always find Smoker a stronger Devil Fruit when the time came.
"Keep pushing yourselves. Every drop of sweat you shed now will reduce the blood you spill on the battlefield in the future,"
Arashi encouraged with a smile. "And it will lay the most solid foundation for the strength you'll need to uphold justice."
"Yes, sir!" the young Marine officers shouted in unison.
Satisfied, Arashi nodded and turned toward a figure gesturing to him in the distance—Eveya, his adjutant.
These days, Eveya had a more mature look, exuding a unique charm that blended purity with allure.
She adjusted her black-framed glasses and wore a concerned expression.
"What's the matter? You seem anxious," Arashi asked with a faint smile.
"A call from Marine Headquarters," Eveya replied, her voice slightly tense. "No, more accurately, it's an invitation from the World Government."
The two walked toward the office as Eveya detailed the contents of the call.
"The World Government has invited you to attend this year's Reverie," Eveya explained. "And they've specifically stated that you need to accompany King Nefertari Cobra of Alabasta."
"Reverie?" Arashi raised an eyebrow. "What does that have to do with me?"
Eveya took a deep breath before continuing. "The World Government has identified you as a prince of Alabasta, which means you're required to attend the Reverie at Mary Geoise."
She paused briefly, her tone growing more serious. "Shortly after the World Government's call, King Cobra personally contacted us, inviting you to meet him in Alubarna before heading to Mary Geoise together."
Arashi narrowed his eyes, detecting an unusual undertone in the situation.
"Will you go?" Eveya asked curiously.
The Reverie, held every four years, was a grand event where nobles, kings, princes, and princesses from around the world gathered at Mary Geoise to discuss critical global issues.
"Reverie… Mary Geoise," Arashi murmured, deep in thought. After a long pause, he suddenly smiled.
"Since they've invited me, why not go and take a look?" he said lightly. "I'm curious to see what this world-shaking conference is all about."
Eveya nodded. "I'll send them your response right away."
As Eveya hurried off, Arashi's eyes narrowed slightly.
Beneath the seemingly simple invitation, he sensed a deeper, hidden agenda from the World Government.
"Let's see what tricks you're up to," he said softly.
Typically, someone of his rank—a Vice Admiral stationed in the West Blue—wouldn't be invited to such an event.
Even the security at Mary Geoise would be handled by CP0 and Marine Admirals.
If it concerned the nobles and kings of various nations, inviting only Cobra would have sufficed.
Yet they had specifically extended an invitation to him, a gesture laden with implications.
"It seems certain individuals want to meet me," Arashi mused. "I'll have to think this through carefully."
Three days later, a Marine battleship set sail from the port, following its planned route toward the Calm Belt.
At the ship's bow stood a golden sceptre adorned with mysterious patterns, gleaming brilliantly under the sun.
The Marine flag, emblazoned with the signature anchor, fluttered in the wind, and the sail bore the bold black kanji for "Justice."
Arashi stood at the bow, with Eveya silently standing behind him. The battleship carried only a small crew of about ten Marines.
A larger entourage wasn't necessary, as Arashi would transfer to King Cobra's royal ship in Alabasta for the journey to Mary Geoise.
On this journey, Arashi was no longer acting as a Marine. Instead, he assumed the role of a prince of Alabasta, a bona fide noble.
"You're the younger brother of King Cobra of Alabasta?" Eveya asked curiously.
"Apparently so. Though I suppose I'll only know for sure once I meet Cobra," Arashi replied with a faint smile.
The truth of his identity had always been a mystery to him. From Ohara to Alabasta, his path had been unpredictable.
He couldn't even rule out the possibility that his next stop might be Mary Geoise itself.
The battleship arrived at Alabasta's Port of Nanohana early the following morning.
Arashi and his team kept a low profile, avoiding unnecessary attention.
Nanohana, a bustling port city known for its perfume production, was filled with a refreshing and alluring fragrance that wafted through the streets.
Eveya sniffed the air curiously, her nose twitching as she took in the scent.
"For you," Arashi said, casually picking up a small bottle from a nearby vendor and tossing it to his adjutant.
Startled, Eveya fumbled to catch it, her cheeks flushing. "T-Thank you, sir," she stammered before carefully placing the gift in her pocket with a solemn expression.
It was the first time her commanding officer had given her a gift, making it something she'd treasure for a lifetime.
As she gazed at Arashi's tall, robust figure, which blocked out everything in her line of sight, Eveya's emotions churned.
They had worked together for about eight years now.
During that time, she had matured significantly, but Arashi hadn't changed at all since the day he arrived at Fort G-18.
It was as if time itself had frozen for him.
Over the years, Eveya had become increasingly aware of her ageing. A woman's golden years were fleeting, and once they passed, they were gone forever.
"Commander Arashi doesn't seem to age, does he?" she thought. "What about me? In ten, twenty years, what will I look like? Will I still be able to stay by his side?"
The thought filled Eveya with a sudden sense of panic and an inexplicable fear.
Ahead of her, Arashi seemed oblivious to her inner turmoil. Instead, he gestured toward a group of camels nearby.
"We'll ride those to Alubarna," he said.
Eveya snapped out of her thoughts and quickly responded, "Yes, sir!"
The group, dressed in dustproof cloaks, mounted the camels and set off for Alubarna under the guidance of a local guide.
Alabasta was a desert kingdom with little rainfall, a dry climate, and high temperatures year-round.
"Alabasta is a superpower located in the first half of the Grand Line," Eveya explained as they travelled.
Her face was covered with a veil, leaving only her eyes visible. "It spans over ten million square kilometers and has a standing army of about six hundred thousand soldiers."
"That's quite a strong nation," she added in awe.
"Six hundred thousand?" Arashi was taken aback, his eyes flickering with thought.
Such a massive force exceeded the current total manpower of the West Blue Marines, even after years of intensive recruitment, which had reached three hundred thousand.
Of course, the kingdom's army wasn't as elite as the Marines. Limited by resources and armaments, their overall strength was inferior.
"Still, that's a power even the World Government cannot afford to ignore," Arashi remarked softly.
"I've heard of nations like this," Eveya said. "In the latter half of the Grand Line, there's a country called Wano. Its samurai are so powerful that even the World Government and Marine Headquarters tread carefully around them."
Arashi nodded in agreement. As they passed through the endless yellow sands, the camels left a trail of footprints behind them.
He sighed softly. Sometimes, a nation's development was closely tied to its climate and geographical location.
Countries rich in iron naturally focused on weapon manufacturing. Regions with fertile climates prioritized agriculture and livestock.
What about desert kingdoms like Alabasta? Arashi suddenly thought of oil and past desert nations like Dubai from his previous life.
But in this world, what use was oil? His thoughts grew chaotic before he shook his head, dismissing them. This trip wasn't about developing Alabasta.
"Still, it might be worth looking into in the future," he mused. "This kingdom has immense potential, after all."
As someone who had served as a commander in the West Blue for years, Arashi understood that the strength of many nations in this world couldn't be underestimated.
Hidden within these nations were secrets capable of shocking the world. Many of the world's renowned warriors had also originated from such places.
The camels moved slowly but were incredibly enduring. Five days later, the group finally arrived in Alubarna, the capital of the desert kingdom.
As they approached, the magnificent sight of the city unfolded before them—a testament to Alabasta's rich history and strength.
